Anthony Phillips / Private Parts & Pieces I-IV / five-CD box set

privateparts

The first four albums in Anthony PhillipsPrivate Parts & Pieces series are being collected in a new five-CD box which includes a large amount of previously unreleased bonus material.

The albums were recorded between 1978 and 1984 and were devised to gather up an extensive range of music recorded by Phillips for various projects. They tended to be released in between ‘proper’ albums.

This new set, compiled by Phillips and Jonathan Dann, includes a total of 18 bonus tracks as well as an additional 18-track CD of previously unreleased material.

The set includes a booklet with an essay by Jonathan Dann and fully restores the artwork of the original vinyl releases.

Private Parts & Pieces is released on 28 August.

Further to my earlier reply, for an excellent introduction try ‘Anthology’ a single CD comp which came out a few years ago. Was the first disc by AP that I bought and I still play it regularly.

Barrie Sillars

Esoteric also released a 5 disc box set Harvest of the Heart which is chocolate full of Ants material over the years. It’s also up for a design award at this years Prog awards. Great work by Phil Smee.

I’ll give another glowing recommendation to Geese and the Ghost! Fabulous, just fabulous. It was just released in a deluxe edition earlier this year or late last year. In fact, I think I’ll listen to it tonight!!

Phil Morris

Wise After The Event is probably not the best placed to start. Whilst a great album, his vocals are something of an acquired taste (as he would acknowledge himself). Sides is definitely recommended – as is the aforementioned Geese & The Ghost.

Chris

Another recommendation for geese and ghost. One of the essential Genesis related solo albums and, like Hackett’s Voyage of the Acolyte, features Collins and Rutherford.

CJ Feeney

Like Voyage of the Acolyte, Geese and the Ghost also features John Hackett, brother of Steve. Much of it was co-written by Phillips and Mike Rutherford, so if you like Trespass, you should like The Geese and the Ghost.

Steven

Geese & The Ghost includes contributions from both Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford – and is available in 5.1 as part of a recent deluxe re-release….

Guys;
Other than his work on “Trespass”, I have none of Ant’s CDs. Which would you guys suggest I pick up to get his best post Genesis Work?
thanks!

Dave Thornhill

Check out the first two ‘The Geese and The Ghost’ and ‘Wise After The Event’… both great albums…

Hoping for this to come down in price a WEE bit (under $50 US would be ideal, but I may be getting greedy), but it looks like a handsome set and a pretty nice way to dive into Mr. Phillips’ music.

Chris Straub

£29.99 is under $50 US. My Amazon.co.uk order for delivery to the US comes to $43.95 with shipping.

Thanks for the tip. I hadn’t even gotten to the point of checking the international Amazon sites yet.
