Sgt. Pepper Photos
With the 50th anniversary reissue of The Beatles‘ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band less than two weeks away, SDE would like to direct your attention to a fascinating project.
Chris Shaw’s Sgt. Pepper Photos is a blog with a remit to “locate the source images used on the cover of The Beatles’ 1967 album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”.
Chris goes through each person on the cover, one-by-one, giving you details and background and shows you the original source for each image. Great stuff!

Suzanne Vega celebrates two albums with new tour
Suzanne Vega has announced details of a new UK tour which will celebrate the 30th anniversary of her 1987 album Solitude Standing and the 25th birthday of the experimental, Mitchell Froom produced 99.9ºF.

25% off Bruce Springsteen live CDs
Although it has been and gone here in the UK, it’s Mother’s Day in America tomorrow. Bruce Springsteen‘s team has used this as an excuse to offer fans some discounts on his live recordings, over at his LiveBruceSpringsteen site.
The site offers a mix of classic archive live shows and current tour recordings. You can get 25% off the CDs and 50% off downloads.
Culture Factory totally destroyed both those Wang Chung albums they reissued.
Durnit. I thought the Suzanne Vega news was a remaster program. Would have been welcome news after the horrendous “remaster” LP replica of SOLITUDE STANDING (http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/suzanne-vega-debut-and-solitude-standing-paper-sleeve-reissues/). Still, cool news!
I agree about the poor remastering of those mini-lps. I’d like a decent master of the first two albums.
I have the 25th anniversary at the Barbican CD of SS. It’ a good show, and of course all songs from SS are spread over the discs of the Close Up series. \i’d love to see her live. hr voice seems to have barely changed in the 30+ yrs since recording her debut.
And of course there is this gem on Culture Factory remastering from SDE’s expert look at Robert Palmer re-issues:
“Given that no engineer in his right mind would do this to a recording (and I’m allowing for the fact that plenty of engineers do some pretty awful things in the mastering world) I can only assume that on this occasion the guy left the room and what we hear on the Culture Factory CD is the result of the cat walking across the console. All of which is a real shame as it’s a great album, and one that I would enjoy listening to for pleasure.”

I got a free Bruce live show a year or two back when there was some kind of ticketing fiasco. It was a way of mollifying any disgruntled fans. It’s a great show.
Paul,
Thanks for the link to the Sgt. Pepper’s photos. It is a very interesting read, a splendid time is guaranteed for all!!
I’ve been think about picking up a couple of those Bruce Springsteen live albums for a while, 50% off just might be the incentive I needed!
Great article from Chris Shaw. Aleuster Crawley resembling Paul McCartney, that would be a great photo to see
