Andy MacKay & Phil Manzanera / Roxymphony CD+DVD deluxe edition
Orchestral re-imaginings of Roxy classics • Signed exclusively for SDE
This December Roxy Music legends Andy Mackay and Phil Manzanera will release Roxymphony, a special CD+DVD deluxe bookset that features live recordings (and video) from a one-of concert on London’s Southbank in November 2018.
The music features ‘re-imaginings’ of Roxy Music classics – including ‘In Every Dream Home A Heartache’, ‘Love Is The Drug’ and ‘More Than This’ – performed live on stage with an orchestra, the 19-strong Owl Parliament choir and of course Andy Mackay and Phil Manzanera. The orchestral arrangements themselves were created by Lucy Wilkins, Ray Russell and Andy Mackay.
In Andy Mackay’s words Roxymphony “was an idea that came from the fabulous possibilities of using orchestral strings and other instruments. It was incredibly exciting for me to assemble all the musicians and to perform with Phil.”
Manzanera shares Andy’s enthusiasm: “it was great to be back on stage with Andy Mackay presenting Roxy’s music in a new context. It was a revelation to us all how well-suited the songs were to being orchestrated.”
The planned Roxymphony tour was sadly cancelled (on Andy’s doctor’s orders) so this really is a document of a unique event and the icing on the cake is that the SDE shop has an exclusive edition signed by both Andy Mackay and Phil Manzanera.
This comes packaged as a deluxe DVD-sized hardcover 20-page book edition featuring a CD of the recordings along with a DVD of the video from the night. The book includes notes from Andy and photos from the evening. The DVD is NTSC region 0, so this should play on all DVD players without issue.
The Roxymphony signed CD+DVD deluxe sets are only available via SDE using this link or the button below and will ship on 16 December 2019 (was 6 Dec).
Also available is the festive ‘Players’ Christmas album on CD from 1989 signed by both Andy and Phil. This features traditional carols performed on acoustic instruments.

From a very happy fan downunder. The performance is magnificent. Skillfully put together by Andy et al. Song For Europe and Tara brought me to tears. This is what integrity in music looks and sounds like. Couldn’t be happier … and to top it off the autographs and photo … indeed the icing on the cake. Congrats too Paul for all your efforts with this. Much much appreciated.
Glad you are enjoying it David and thanks.
Hi Paul,
My CD/DVD arrived in the post yesterday – absolutely fabulous! And what a lovely and thoughtful gesture to add a photo of both Andy and Phil signing them….brilliant! Merry Christmas Paul to you and your family, and all the very best for 2020. From one very happy Roxy fan xxx
Thanks very much Janice. Enjoy and Merry Christmas to you too! P
Roxymphony arrived today, thank you Paul for the additional touch of including a photo of Phil and Andy signing the sets,
You’re welcome. Enjoy!

Ordered – was at the London show nd it was fabulous
Thanks. Me too… in fact I got roped into helping out the merch stand that evening!
I’m not sure what all the PAL vs NTSC fuss is… I’m in the US and probably 75% of the DVDs I own are from the UK/Europe (and beyond). DVD and Blu-ray Region 0 play fine, with no modifications needed whatsoever. I’ve also sent American Region 0 discs to friends in Europe, and have never heard of any problems. That’s the point of region 0 – it will play on every machine.
I do have a separate player that I “hacked,” but that was a matter of following simple three-or-four step directions and using the remote control to change the region code to… you guessed it… zero. But I only use that player for discs that are NOT region 0, whatever country they come from.
Many thanks Paul..I was saddened when the tour was cancelled and especially sad to eventually read of Andy’s medical issues..hope the situation is resolved.
I’ve had DVDs from the USA which have played on Region 2 DVD players. This was done by searching for Dvd Hacks. Mostly it was a case of using a code via the remote control for the player, this would clear if the machine was switched off. There are plenty of sites offering lists of manufacturers and models.
I never had any issue with NTSC pictures not playing on my TV.
Hope this helps
J
NTSC plays in the UK fine, it’s the other way around which is a problem.
Bingo, Paul… you nailed it.
You can view it by changing the region code of yourPC or laptop, you can only do this 5 times, film the playback on your phone and send it to your smart telly, not ideal but better than nothing.
Just use VLC to play the DVD on your PC and cast the screen to your TV.
That’s not the issue John. The DVD is region 0 which means it will play anywhere as it is uncoded for “region restrictions”, it’s the fact that it is PAL and not NTSC. Virtually all of the world’s DVD players start off as NTSC as it is the bigger market and then the ones destined for PAL regions then have the PAL decoding software added over the top of the NTSC capabilities, so European DVD players tend to have both bits of software whereas NTSC machines destined for NTSC regions probably won’t have the extra PAL software added.
Sorry forgot it was region free, just do wot r,j,s says then, can it playback on a American laptop ,that was wot i was trying to say cheers
Played the clip with initial excitement, and then…I wasn’t too happy. The choir sounds sort of like a family singalong, or perhaps a middle school chorus. But to each his/her own.
Exactly what I thought. Might still buy it…
Both of them ordered, thanks Paul!
For all of us North Americans in the group, the following statement is such a massive letdown: “Please note the DVD is PAL region 0, so please check compatibility (especially in the USA) to avoid disappointment.” My euphoria upon seeing the news of this release quickly crashed and burned…
I was disappointed for SDE friends in the USA when I was told it was PAL. Is there any way around it, to get them to play?
Paul – there is, but I understand it to be a somewhat long and convoluted process… someone in the group might contest that assertion, however… but it involves somehow re-programming your DVD player… and it sounds kind of dicey to me… the other option is to procure a multi-region DVD player, but I believe that’s somewhat of a grey market… and a footnote: the PAL malaise affects not only Americans, but Canadians as well.
The DVD is region-free, so a multi-region player isn’t required, BUT it’s more to do with the TV being unable to process PAL signals, isn’t it? Something like that, I’m not an expert, I must confess.
Paul – you and me both in terms of not being experts!… but, indeed, the instant a North American sees the following three dreaded letters – “PAL” – regardless if the DVD is region-free, it will be unplayable on a conventional North America DVD player. I have learned this the hard way. It’s got to be “NTSC” for it to be playable for us here in Canada / United States.
You can buy rather cheap PAL/NTSC all region DVD players. Just did an Amazon search. Don’t know how the quality might be, but they do exist.
The DVD is now going to be NTSC, so all these problems go away!
Excellent stuff, as a lifelong ‘all things Roxy’ fan I’m looking forward to this one. A real bonus to get a signed copy! Roxymphomy ordered!
Looking forward to have it in my player (in Germany)
How many are signed of both issues? Just a nice to know.
Ordered the cd/ dvd set thanks !
Bonus dvd tracks sound interesting .
Would be worth it for the autographs, but this symphonic craze has to end.
Perhaps if someone had a new album in a symphonic style that would be ok, but old musicians rehashing their catalogue, forget it.
I was at this gig and it felt like a proper artistic exploration to be fair, not some quick commercial rehash. And Andy did it himself and didn’t get someone in!
Both ordered to snowy Canada
Thanks kindly.
Nice. Ordered the Roxymphony set!
Cheers!
GREAT JOB PAUL BUT I’M STILL WAITING FOR THE 18 CDS HERNY COW SUPERBOX :o
Cool – ordered both
Thanks Robert.
