Anthony Phillips / Sides deluxe
Anthony Philips‘ third album Sides is to be reissued this April as an expansive 3CD+DVD deluxe edition, by Esoteric Recordings.
The ex-Genesis guitarists’ 1979 long-player was produced by Rupert Hine and saw him supported by an able cast of musicians that included Mike Giles & Mel Collins (King Crimson), John G. Perry (Caravan, Quantum Jump) and John Hackett (a member of his brother Steve’s band).
This deluxe edition features a new stereo mix of the album, a newly re-mastered version of the original stereo mix and a CD of demos, out-takes and extras.
Even better, this comes with a new 5.1 Surround Sound Mix of the record on DVD (region-free, NTSC) and an illustrated booklet with a new essay by Jon Dann featuring interviews with Anthony Phillips and Rupert Hine
Sides is released on 15 April 2015.

I believe the most of Ant fans allready bought his music two times (on vinyl and cd), i did…
And now it’s available as 5.1 surround mix we have to buy the whole package for the third time, if we want the 5.1 dvd.
Talk about silly maketing, because i will not fall into this trap.
What will happend is no sale and people finding the thing on torrent sides or the like.
I just don’t understand why the record companies are still sleeping, now where we can stream everything stereo from Spotify. (yes i have a subscription)
We need the exclusive formats like HD and surround to be a download posibility, or at least the posibility to get the part of the package we have interest in, and for me it is the surround mix.
Away to find the Anthony 5.1 remix torrents, and please provide me a donation button so i can pay for it.
A pity these weren’t ready in time for my birthday on January 9!
And there was me thinking that the Betty Boo re-release was a niche product!
Seriously…I like some of Ant’s solo work, but almost £30?
Really?
These are 3 or 4 disc special editions, not single album releases.
Such a shame these Ant Phillips reissues don’t contain high-resolution stereo mixes on the DVD. A missed opportunity.
The Wise After The Event DVD audio menu on my universal player reveals TWO high resolution options in addition to the three 5.1 surround options:
MLP Lossless 5.1 Surround (DVD-Audio)
MLP Lossless Stereo (DVD-Audio)
DTS 5.1 Surround (96/24)
Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
LPCM Stereo (96/24)
If you do not have a DVD-A or universal player you won’t see the first two options; you would select LPCM Stereo and there you have it. Both The Geese & The Ghost and Sides are configured this way. The surround mixes are wonderful. Enjoy!
Thanks for this good news, Tim. It’s strange that this information wasn’t explicit in the release information on Cherry Red or Amazon or even on Ant’s website.
DVD specifications content details and features information is notoriously incomplete or inadequate even by labels releasing it. People writing the copy rarely know the format differences or that a hi res stereo track might be important.
