NewsBee Gees / The Warner Bros. Years 1987-1991 / 5CD box
Rhino will issue a five CD Bee Gees collection in April.
The Warner Bros. Years 1987-1991 includes all three studio albums recorded during this period (E.S.P., One and High Civilization) as well as bonus tracks including demos, remixes, and edits.
The final two CDs offer One For All, a 1989 concert recording available in its entirety for the first time. This 22-track live set has been newly mixed by Barry Gibb and John Merchant.
The Warner Bros. Years 1987-1991 is released on 15 April 2014 (currently only available for US pre-order).

I’m excited to hear the live, complete concert from the “One For All” tour back in 1989.
This was a nice surprise despite the omissions. The packaging is minimal without any liner notes or lyrics. Why the Gibbs (as songwriters) won’t give thier own music the release treatment others are doing (like McCartney) is strange. Barry Gibb is proud of his music, enough to do a solo tour, but no releases from the early 70’s? Tired of waiting while other great artists put out what people want.
The demo of “Young Love” from the ESP sessions is also missing. There is nothing particularly new for fans in this set.
What I’d really like to see is a remaster of Barry Gibb’s Now Voyager album from 1984.
the shep pettibone mix of “You win again” is the extended version, isn’t it ?
The arthur baker remixes would have made this a must buy but again wasted opportunity. Wasnt there a Shep Pettibone mix of You Win Again too?
there are many mixes on this one, I think it’s a great idea for a band that was at the time so underrated !
Personaly I’ll buy this one, simply because i don’t have them on CD…
However, I noted the few missing mixes on it, as they are:
-ESP (“Extra Sensory Hous”e & “E.S.P.N.R.G.” mixes by Arthur baker)
– You Win Again (Single Version) (Not a big single from that period???)
– Ordinary Lives (Extended Version) (Same remark as previously !)
I think those mixes could have been added to the setlist (not that much missing !!!) for a total pleasure, but an obvious effort have been mùade for this one ! Can’t wait !
We are missing some remixes unfortunately. The extended version of ‘Ordinary Lives’ is missing (lack of space?). And this box set was the perfect set to finally release the Arthur Baker ESP remixes (at least the Sensory and NRG vocal versions). But these too are not present. Also the single edit of ‘The Only Love’ and ‘When He’s Gone’ are missing, while there’s more than enough space left on CD 3. Curious, because CD 1 contains the single edits of ‘Angela’ and ‘ESP’, while that space could have been used for the Arthur Baker mixes. Hmm, guess you can’t have it all.
But apart from this, very nice to have the albums remastered, hopefully not brickwall compressed. And great to have the key 12 inches as well. Don’t really care for the live CD’s, I think.
RPM, you are so right, that is an amazing song. I first heard it playing on the radio in a taxi in Athens, about 12 years ago. I couldn’t believe that such an amazing song was never released as a single. Interestingly Robin Gibb recorded a version of the song for his last solo album. I have never heard it.
I wonder why this was not released? The Bee Gees usually had a knack for releasing the right songs as singles. They seriously slipped up in this instance, this song would have been top 3 for sure.
“Wish You Were Here” was one of their greatest ever songs. It should have been released as a single.
It was but radio refused to play it.
In Brazil, the song was released as a single and charted at #02!
