Eagle Rock are due to release The Who Live In Texas ’75 on DVD in early October 2012.
The gig was filmed in Houston, Texas on 20 November 1975, right at the start of a massive tour of the U.S. to promote The Who By Numbers, their seventh album
The 117-minute 25-song set has previously only available as a bootleg and the audio and video has been restored by longtime Who collaborator Jon Astley. However, it is still interesting to note that there does not appear to be a Blu-ray option, which might suggest something other than pristine footage. The audio will be available in Dolby Digital Stereo sound, so there will be no surround option.

In the 70’s there were 3 venues that had video screens and sometimes recorded. 2 were in Houston (The Summit & The Astro Dome) and one near Largo, Maryland. (The Capitol Center) This is why we are seeing multiple releases from these places (Springsteen, P-Funk, etc)
$500 for Mick Jagger’s autograph? Forget the others, this is the one we would be paying for. Hmm. Pleased to see there is no CD and DVD though. I always worry that their inclusion will make the boxsets less collectible over time. And that we might have to wait 30 years before they become cool and collectible again.
I am thinking that it won’t be out on Blu-ray because the footage was shot on videotape rather than film. I don’t know this to be true, just guessing.
I had to think about this for a bit. The 1975 tour culminated at the Hammersmith Odeon with three Christmas shows, with Monty Python opening.
One of the unusual features was that tickets were made available through a national lottery via the New Musical Express and I pulled two tickets for December 21. I think they played Roadrunner and Spoonful. The Pythons were not well received and Pete, Rog, Keith and John turned it up loud.
It had been one heck of an autumn/Fall at the Hammersmith with the two Bruce shows and then The Who absolutely tore it to shreds.
Certainly worth having for $15
i have, ahem, “seen” the bootleg mentioned above. it’s interesting that the full thing is on this release, for what is widely available out there is only 43mins or so of footage.
as i recall, the a/v was “OK” bearing in mind it was a straight digital rip of a time coded VHS, but the worry would be that all i can remember is the footage is from two mostly stagnant video cameras on either side of the stage. you hardly see Keith!
