Ultravox / The Albums 1980-2012: 9CD album collection box set
Chrysalis Records will release a new Ultravox box set later on this month.
The Albums 1980-2012 is a nine-CD collection featuring the six Midge Ure era studio albums – Vienna (1980), Rage in Eden (1981), Quartet (1982), Lament (1984) and U-Vox (1986) – as well as live records Monument (1983) and Return to Eden (2009).
The story is brought right back up to date with the inclusion of Brilliant, last year’s studio album featuring the classic line-up after a recording hiatus of almost three decades.
All the LPs from the 1980s have been newly remastered by Steve Rooke at Abbey Road Studios.
The CDs will be in card sleeves and housed in a clamshell box. The Albums 1980-2012 is released on 28 October 2013.

The 2008/2009 remasters (but no bonus tracks) have been used – That’s what is printed on the backside of the cardboxes.
The idea to release such compilation is excellent – although the question indeed comes up about why the B-Sides were not included (at least “Passionate Reply” and “Paths And Angles”) whereas the horrible pink thing is to be found here… when it is so not an Ultravox album.
@Taxi-Driver You know what… (assuming you are referring to U-Vox) I thought that for many years too. I bought it at the time and then returned it after one listen.
Earlier this year I saw the 2-CD edition going very cheaply in a shop so I decided to pick it up just to complete my set of 2-CD reissues. I gave it a listen and actually it is really rather good once you get over the lack of synths (and Warren Cann).
I prefer it to Brilliant which I still find a bit weak in terms of tunes…
This is great if you don’t own the albums, but for those of us that do (and surely most UV fans do), then why not include an extra disk of demo’s or out takes…? A missed opportunity!
Yes, like Omar, I’d be interested to know if this edition has been remastered all over again or did they use the 2008 – 2010 remastered album editions?
£17.99 on Sainsburys compared to £25.50 on Amazon. I honestly don’t see how the remastering could be any better than those 2 CD remasters.
The 2cd remasters were very good sound wise. Are theses really remastered all over again or did they use the older master tapes.
Hi Omar. Yes. I’d be very interested to know this also. I was part of the team that helped EMI compile the 2-Disc editions from 2008 to 1010, and at the time all the albums were remastered from the original master tapes. I doubt that’s been done all over again, but it would be good if this could be confirmed by the label.
Odd, but they are available on the 2 disc remasters that came out a couple of years ago.
No bonus tracks, no 12″ mixes? The greatest hits 2 LP set had several great 12″ mixes.
i know I have been waiting for these to come out on CD…..
