Demon Records are producing a limited run – 500 only – of Pick of the Pieces: The Vinyl Collection, a new Average White Band vinyl box set that not only delivers five classic albums pressed on icy white vinyl, but includes a print SIGNED by the classic line-up.
The albums featured in this set are AWB (which topped the US albums chart in 1974), the troubled follow-up Cut The Cake (1975), 1976’s Soul Searching, their seventh album from 1979 Feel No Fret (which features a cover of Hal/David’s Walk On By) and finally 1980’s Shine.
Each of these vinyl boxes are numbered and come with a print signed by Alan Gorrie, Hamish Stuart, Molly Duncan, Onnie McIntyre, Roger Ball and Steve Ferrone.
It should be pointed out that there is no black vinyl or unsigned variant. It’s these 500 special limited editions and that’s it! These are available via Amazon UK for what seems to be a great price of just £54. With VAT deducted that’s about US $60 plus shipping for American fans of the Average White Band!
This signed white vinyl Pick of the Pieces box will be released on 2 February 2018.

Needless to say that I’ve just ordered my copy!

I got another copy last friday from my local record store Fame in Amsterdam at a lower price than the pre-order from Amazon. They had only one copy.
I wonder when and if Amazon will ship at all.

The *ONLY* thing that could possibly be added and this would be barrel scraping for a negative is a 6th LP of rarities, but even then it would be hard pushed to add anything to what is a superb set. Well done Demon, A+ for effort.

actually the box is available again for preorder. What does it mean? Maybe it’s a “new edition” (not included in the first 500 copies)?
I think it’s just ….(and this happens a lot as release day approaches) people place a holding order when the first adverts go up, so there seem to be none left. Then they cancel the order at some point in the day before they have to commit. We only *see* it happen on small (500?) limited editions and amazon exclusives. It happened with Blancmange too, I am hoping it happens with Belinda Carlisle and I’m sure it will happen with Suede too.
500 did seem like a low run so if more are made they will either be unsigned or Black Vinyl (or both). Ten Year War did something similar with an initial 3,500 run becoming 6,500 but at least you know what you’ve got as they are numbered, so is the AWB set so if numbers above 500 start appearing we will know. My guess is that they might do a black vinyl run if they bother at all.
