Bob Marley / “Legend” 30th anniversary edition CD+blu-ray

legend30

Six months on from its debut on the Pure Audio blu-ray audio format (stereo only), Bob Marley‘s Legend compilation (the world’s best-selling reggae album, fact fans) gets a second bite of the hi-res cherry with a new release that features a 5.1 surround sound mix of the whole album by renowned engineer Bob Clearmountain.

The 5.1 Blu-ray is being paired with a CD to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Legend, and this new edition now features the original, early studio version of No Woman No Cry, in lieu of the previous live cut as well as two previously unheard alternate takes of Easy Skanking and Punky Reggae Party.

It’s an attractive looking package, with the discs housed within a 28-page, casebound book featuring unseen photos and forewords written by Ebony and Ivory duo Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder, as well as notes by Christopher Farley (who wrote the book Marley).

In addition to the CD+Blu-ray combo, the 30th Anniversary Edition of Legend will be issued across two LPs as part of a tri-colour gatefold vinyl set.

This Legend 30th Anniversary reissue is out on 1 July 2014.

  1. I received the double vinyl lp this week from Amazon France. Very nice gatefold sleeve and tri-coloured vinyl in the colours of Jamaica. LP’s are not 180gr but sound quality is nevertheless excellent. Also great use of anti-static sleeves which are usually missing from vinyl releases.

  2. Fill ripped off, I was expeting some type of video from the blu-ray and all I got was the same pictures again and again. Not worth the 30 + dollars for a cd I already have.

  3. is SDE sponsored by AMAZON.. ? i placed a link from where the CD/Bluray Book available is for 18.99 GBP and my comment is “Your comment is awaiting moderation”

      1. Sorted. Sorry about that. Steve is correct, URLs in comments result in the comment being blocked (due to SPAM) I end up having to manually approve, and stuff gets missed occasionally! cheers, Paul

  4. Probably will go for this one as well. Have the current one already.

Only gripe is that within such a short timeframe a new release?! They should have included this (5.1) on the first release, especially since BD’s have enough space. Hope Warner does not pull this “double dipping” with other releases as well in such short intervals. If they do this can be bad for such a new format.

  5. Hi Paul,

Thank you for responding quickly. I know there was some question about this with Quadrophenia as well. Given your above response, I assume Quadrophenia Pure Audio is confirmed to be both Stereo and 5.1.

    Regards, Scott

    1. Yes, Quadrophenia is confirmed as both. I don’t think ANY of these Pure Audios have only had 5.1, so it’s a reasonably safe bet.

  6. The double cooloured LP is £29 on amazon.co.uk (approx 40 euros)…but only 20 euros on Amazon France.
Chose where you should order from… :)

  7. This albums for years now is steady in my all time album top 5. It’s such a good compilation. I have the 2002 deluxe edition which has 2 discs. The 2nd features dub versions and 12″ versions of the tracks on disc 1. I’m not surprised that this is the best selling reggae album of all time. What they did last year with Legend remixed? Well, let’s not even go there…
