Cicero / Future Boy: Complete Works

CICERO

Pet Shop Boys favourite Cicero’s debut album, Future Boy, will be released as a two-CD expanded reissue in August, by Cherry Red.

The Scottish/American David Cicero was signed to the PSB’s Spaghetti Recordings in the late eighties/early nineties and issued half a dozen singles on the fledgling  label. The album Future Boy was issued in 1992 and as well as being championed by Neil and Chris, the album contained a couple of tracks produced by the pop duo (Love is Everywhere and That Loving Feeling).

This new two-disc, 26-track package is a collection of all known Cicero tracks released during his Spaghetti Recordings years and includes a wealth of remixes, edits and the non-album single, Live For Today.

Future Boy: The Complete Works will be released on 26 August 2016.

I’d collected all the original CD singles previously so just made this album myself adding the unreleased track She Has A Way with it’s remix. Don’t like how they’ve separated the b sides from the remixes. Who want’s to listen (or can) to four different versions of the same song in a row ? So put all the b sides and mixes in the order they were released as per the original singles which breaks them up a bit.

1 The Loving Feeling
2 Heaven Must Have Been Sent You Back To Me
3 My Middle Class Life
4 Cloud 9
5 Love Is Everywhere
6 Then
7 As Time Goes By
8 Sonic Malfunction
9 The Butcher Of Bucharest
10 Future Generations

(BONUS TRACKS)

11 Heaven Must Have Sent You Back To Me (Single Mix)
12 Heaven Must Have Sent You Back To Me (Melt Mix)
13 Pukka (Elevation Mix)
14 Love Is Everywhere (Extended Mix)
15 Mind Gap (Extended Mix)

CD2 (BONUS TRACKS)

1 That Loving Feeling (Single Mix)
2 That Loving Feeling (Extended Mix)
3 Splatt (Extended Mix)
4 Heaven Must Have Sent You Back To Me (Remix)
5 Heaven Must Have Sent You Back To Me (Extended Remix)
6 Jungilism
7 Live For Today (Single Version)
8 Live For Today (Gospel Mix)
9 Street Life
10 Live For Today (Club Mix)
11 Live For Today (Underground Dub)
12 Love Is Everywhere (DJD HiNRG Mix 2016)
13 She Has A Way
14 She Has A Way (Fluffy Mix)

What about this reissue ? Anyone received it ? What about the tracks quality ?

Anthony C

This is a nice collection but it merely compiles everything from the CD singles. So there isn’t anything which wasn’t already available.

Nice release anyway.

Paco

The biggest missing thing here is a DVD with the videos, like on the (almost perfect) Dusty re-issue…please include them!!! This will be the last chance ever to get them…If not here…where???

Great news!
Thank you Paul!

[…] the announcement of the Cicero reissue, Cherry Red are to release another expanded deluxe edition of an album with a strong Pet Shop Boys […]

Neil

Cherry Red in the vast majority of cases always omit stuff from their reissues or don’t bother to remaster it either.

SimonP

Makes me laugh when folk moan about missing instrumental versions. Why buy a Rusty Springboard album with tunes on it that don’t even feature her? Someone like Prince; granted, as it’d no doubt feature him playing guitar and various other instruments, so he’d still be on it…

Daniel ( from Berlin )

hi simon p
you should not laugh better respect that each person / fan wants different things
on a re-release / deluxe edition to complete their own private collections
and each fan has different priorities.
you, other people and me too.

Gary Russell

Oh Cherry Red, this isn’t complete at all. The 7″ versions of the B sides are missing – Mind Gap, Pukka and Splatt. *sigh*

Guy

Unfortunately, both the Cicero and Dusty reissues are incomplete. Cicero is missing Live For Today (Orchestral) and some instrumentals and other fully produced tracks known from demo tapes. Dusty is missing the (mentioned) Arrested By You (Instrumental) and the In Private (Instrumental) – both on official vinyl releases.

JeroenFl

Love is everywhere in extended version is great. Cost me a fortune to collect the cd-maxi’s in the 90’s.

Daniel ( from Berlin )

This seems better than the forthcoming Dusty Springfield “Reputation” 2CD Edition.
( August 2016 )
On Dusty’s new “Collector’s Edition” are much remixes and b-sides ( this is good news),
but the very rare ( only vinyl released ) instrumental version of ballad “Arrested By You”
are not on the 2CD’s. This is bad news. Second re-release & again not complete.
I cannot understand that they ( artists / publishers / cherry records ) ever forget the real rarities.
Most of the 12” remixes were released many times on CD / compilations / CDsingles.
The first re-release of Cicero seems much better.

HS

Never heard this album – but I’ll buy it because of the PSB connection.

gb

found out about this yesterday. but didn’t know the tracklisting. looks great.
have the original cd. looking forward to the remixes.

Auntie Sabrina

Let!s hope they make a better job of it than Cherry Red’s recent Divine Anthology…

gb

just read about that on amazon.
really hate when cds have jumps.
wish they employed Paul to over-see releases.
all such problems would be a thing of the past.
