David Bowie / Anniversary gold vinyl pressings widely available (for now)
If you are struggling (or worrying) about securing the gold vinyl editions of David Bowie‘s Hunky Dory and The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars, then as it turns out, they are relatively easy to find online, at the moment.
These “very strictly limited edition” reissues are in theory limited to ‘bricks and mortar’ stores only, but if you don’t have any stores near you or simply want the convenience of ordering online, then that option is open to you.
Hunky Dory is actually out already. Despite the promised release date of mid-June, it emerged prematurely on 26 May. Ziggy Stardust hasn’t been released yet and is due on 16th of this month.

I got it in my local Sainsbury’s too – £14 whereas the standard black vinyl issue was £16. Thanks to Nick for the original tip off.
Found it at Sainsburys, East Dulwich tonight for £14 so stuck it in the basket with the groceries!!
HMV out of stock, but is cheaper in gold vinyl than standard reissue 2015 black vinyl for £16.61 on amazon market place , amazon price over £20 and where gold vinyl is on market place £67, rip off merchant sellers
I think the prices quoted above should reflect the postage costs to the UK to provide a real indication of the cost. The saving at Amazon Italy seems large until you realise after postage its only a £4 saving.
It’s certainly true that shipping can make the difference between a good deal and just an okay one. However there’s so many variables – where you live, where you are ordering from, which kind of shipping you are choosing, whether you are an amazon prime member etc. – that for the sake of simplicity the widgets don’t have shipping listed. I think in general, SDE readers quickly get used to what the shipping charges are likely to be from the various sites/countries.
Let’s see, I had Hunky Dory on LP, then the was it Sound and Vision series CD, then the EMI 24 bit remaster, then the last remaster…
It is a good album though
As I didn’t have any copy currently of Hunky, it didn’t take much persuasion for me to buy it on vinyl. It being gold was the icing on the cake (or should that be the gilding of the lily? ;-) especially as I’d heard good things about the quality, which turned out to be borne out when I took it home.
Just wait for the box-set series to be completed and we’ll get a limited edition career spanning mega box with all albums in different colours, so people will have the chance to buy their 10th copy of ‘Ziggy Stardust’ and ‘Hunky Dory’.
Gold vinyl Hunky Dory £14 at Sainsbury’s in Folkestone Kent!
My local Sainsbury’s had about 10 copies of the Gold Hunky Dory
There was a Beach Boys 78 for US RSD a few years back. Mono of course.
You should hear Gene Vincent’s Woman Love on 78. Superb
…cause you could enjoy his golden years!!!
as absurd as new releases that come in different coloured vinyl…and cassettes…where are the wax cylinders…and 78 rpm, they have such a warmth and omph, nothing compares them
The gold coloured cassette tape version is what I’m holding out for.
Steve W, it’s not ‘Bpwoie’, it’s ‘Covfefe’ ;-)
Jim Breeds, yes I got my copy at Sainsbury’s. Great sound.
This may be of interest?

My localish record shop told me that Diamond Dogs will be getting the gold vinyl treatment as well. I can’t find anything about this version anywhere online though.
There is also a green vinyl version available from Record Store
Sorry, I guess I’m just not obsessive enough about Bpwoie – why would anyone want a gold vinyl release?
Who is Bpwoie ??
My hmv selling it for 18 but Sainsbury’s for 14. Shame there is a vast difference even within the same chain.
It’s £14 in Sainsbury’s……
Sainsbury’s have the gold version?
Yes. Mine had a large dollop of old black No Parlez mixed in with the gold, so beware. Glad I just have to take it back to Sainsbury’s tho, not send it back to Italy.
Yes I saw some the other day in Sainsbury Kings Lynn.
Can’t see the point of this release – apart from it being on gold(esque) vinyl it seems a redundant release. It seems like every month there appears to be a new bowie release – is it starting to damage his legacy by milking his catalog so frequently?
Nice wee ruse to get the Bowie vinyl obsessively to buy them again….sneaky feckers
Great price from HMV, think I’ll be buying a copy of this. Thanks Peter…
Hey your welcome. I have 2 if u need 1
Over £10 cheaper from Italy then..?
It’s still available at my hmv for £15.99
