Disney Records vinyl picture discs

Walt Disney Records will soon release vinyl picture discs of the soundtracks to some of their best-loved films, including The Jungle Book and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Other titles include Songs from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Songs from Aladdin, Songs from Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King.

These may be an obvious/cynical Christmas stocking filler, but also a great way to introduce your kids to how vinyl records work! Some of these have been out before but this is an opportunity to pick ’em up cheap again.

They will be released on 18 November 2016.

UK Prices are still shocking talk about exploitation

more greedy disney double dipping.
why weren’t these included in their forthcoming half-assed “big sleeve” sets ?

elliott buckingham

not into Disney movies or the soundtracks my 9 yr old would ask me why I was listening to babies music. they do look great though but would make expensive wall art

Just one more needs until xmas,
A complete release of Tarzan ost by Phil Collins

Really? CDs are much smaller. Now if you had made that claim with an LP…

I`ve always wondered why people buy picture discs. The audio playback is always terrible. Why not buy the CD and a nice picture to frame? BUT if that`s your lump of coal, fair play.

Geert De Wilde

Confusing … Amazon.fr is already shipping them – from the US. Were these already released in the US? Or are they selling an older edition?

Just checked the article, and it is Disney doing that too….

To link the film and album elements of this thread together, I read with some amazement that the film studios are going to start releasing BD’s in large album style covers. A bit like a return to laser disc proportions, but with a tiny disc inside. It is all getting a bit silly now…

Hi Paul , I bought The Aladdin pic disc last year for one of the family last Xmas from Amazon UK which had a few of the others on there as well.
Are these different ?

Wait, so now even kids are getting nostalgic for a format they have no prior knowledge of? Their pocket money won’t last long if they start collecting modern vinyl.

Andrew Mogford

£50 for the lion king? Hardly call that cheap. Gutted – one of my favourite soundtracks ever. Can’t justify that though. Have preordered The Jungle Book though. Also would have liked Aladdin but wouldn’t call £30 cheap either.

After your article on vinyl prices on the email this week Paul, these prices are the perfect example. they should all be the same price.

Andrew Mogford

ah yes that is the older pressing. I missed the finer details at 6:30am! :) No listing for the new pressing yet. Will have to keep an eye out.

£50 for lion king in the UK ??

I was hoping “Lady And The Tramp” would be included – my brother had a vinyl picture-disc when we were kids so it would have brought back some lovely childhood memories.

Mind you, looking at the prices above it would be no cheaper than buying a second-hand copy on eBay!

Well, kinda with you in principle but why not actually. Not even just because those three soundtracks contain songs that are known by millions of people and are actually soundtracks to many lives. So, really, why NOT? I could not care less about Lennon. I can’t stand the Beatles anyway, I think they had some great songs that came to life when other people sang them! Don’t be a Rolling Stoner.

Stevie B

So this gets a mention, but nothing on here about the Lennon/Ono re-issues set for November, with more scheduled for next year.

Faint praise.

Where is a Connection between Disney pic discs and Lennon re-releases? You could put your strange comment under every News item that is not about Lennon.

Mike the Fish

Some of the UK ones were cut at 45rpm, I believe.
