Listening to this wonderful body of work . The box set is a delightful book format with lots of personal info and photos of Judie . The nice personal touch is Judie signing and dedicating the boxset to my partner a lifelong fan .
Fully recommended and a great price .

Philip Birtwistle

Further to my previous message, just been emailed by Wrasse asking for my address so a replacement can be sent out.

Philip Birtwistle

Asked Judie’s website about the replacement disc and was told :

“I believe they are going to send a replacement copy.
Not sure how long that will take to manufacture.

Sorry for the bother,

All the best,

Steve F

So, I’ve sat down this evening and put together an alternative track listing for the Box Set with Bonus Tracks added to the appropriate albums. I’ve excluded (Single Edits) where there’s only a few seconds difference or the Edited Version of the song has butchered the original album version. Also, I’ve added missing albums and put together a totally different version of the “More From The Moon” Bonus CD.

* PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT the tracklisting of the actual Box Set but highlights what’s missing and what could’ve been included subject to master tapes being found and their contents being made available and licensing and cost issues not being an issue *

Steve F

Thanks Jerry! I’ve just heard her cover of “Love” by John Lennon from the “LENNON – BERMUDA” Tribute Album. Beautiful version! Also the Freemasons ft. Judie Tzuke version of “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore” which, to be fair is also very good. Thanks for your input.

Lewis-John Abbott

It’s amazing isn’t it,

I have been a die hard fan for 26 years,

There are tracks I did not know about!

I have always followed her like my own career!

Steve F

Lewis-John Abbott – brilliant research by you there! Thank you. I’ve updated my list accordingly. I have, however, found one more very rare track which would’ve been a nice inclusion on the Bonus CD:

Lives in the Balance

It was recorded in the studio by the touring band between “Under The Angels” and “Secret Agent”. It was part of the “Poppies” charity CD collection which was an anti-war CD. The track is a cover of a Jackson Browne song. The album was released on the Dressed For Peace label in 1997, DTKBOX70. The Various Artists Album that it appeared on was called “The Ballads of War and Peace”.

Lewis-John Abbott

I love the fact Judie’s fan help each other,

We really are one body!

Steve F

Lewis-John Abbott – I have now compiled a (I hope) complete list of tracks missing from the Box Set. They are as follows:

It’s The Night (B Side)
Late Again (7″ Single Mix)
Jeannie No (12” Extended Mix)
You (12” Jazz Mix)
You (12” Extended Vocal Mix)
Love Like Fire (7” Single Mix)
Love Like Fire (Club Mix)
This Side Of Heaven (Re-Mix)
Love Is Not For Sale (B Side / 12” Bonus Track)
Dangerous Toys (B Side / CD Single Bonus Track)
Everything Will Come (7” Single Version)
We’ll Go Dreaming (12” Extended Remix)
How Do I Feel (2010 Re-recording) – From “Moon On A Mirrorball”
Late Again (2010 Re-recording) – From “Moon On A Mirrorball”

BBC In Concert

9 tracks from Song Club
8 tracks from Song Club Too

So, not THE FULL MOON, but a remarkable achievement to bring so many of her albums together in one place for the first time ever.

Have ordered “Song Club” and “Song Club Too” from her webshop and downloaded 3 of the missing B Sides and two of the 12″ Extended Mixes from YouTube.

Lewis-John Abbott

That list looks pretty complete to me, been a fan since 1992.

But after reading Discogs there are some I didn’t know about too, I’ve found more.

I’ve just remembered there are 7″ Single Edits for “We’ll Go Dreaming” and “Let Me Be The Pearl”, They appeared on this:

Think there is also an Instrumental of “Love Like Fire” and “You” on the various 12″s.

Also there is an Alternative version of “Calling Me Back” on the “God Only Knows” CDSingle and a 7″ Mix of “God Only Knows” on the 7″, 12″ and CDSingle it is actually 10 seconds longer than the Album Version.

And 7″ Mixes of “I’ll Be The One” and “Black Furs”too.

All the info is on Discogs I think, it’s really helpful, I think that’s all!

I used to have all the 7″‘s and 12″s but got rid of them when my Record Player packed up about 10 years ago.

How funny, I ordered the 2 “Song Club” CD’s last week as well as I missed them the first time round, they haven’t arrived yet, hoping they will within the next few days.

I’m exhausted now hahaha!

Neil Hunt

Lewis-John Abbott

The Stay With Me Till Dawn budget compilation you mention also contains single versions/edits of “Higher And Higher” and “I Never Know Where My Heart Is”.

I ‘m also waiting for the 2 Song Club CDs to arrive to complete my collection. Hope they turn up soon.

Lewis-John Abbott

That does sound familiar now you have mentioned it.

I don’t think there can be much else surely.

Lewis-John Abbott

And I’ve just seen the “Original Version” of “Sukarita” on the B-Side of the U.K 7″ of “For You”!

The Album Version was a “Remix”

I think that is the last of it!

Wait, there are two Yes songs she sung besides….”Wonderous Stories” and “Roundabout”

Lewis-John Abbott

Oh my goodness!

Now I’ve found a “Dub Mix” of “We’ll Go Dreaming” on the 12″ Promo!

Lewis-John Abbott

Right, I have been through the Discogs Website with a fine tooth comb and have found the Tzuke & Paxo “These Are The Laws” with the B-Side “It’s Only Fantasies” U.K 7″ Single.

I think we have covered everything between us.

There is a lot more than I realised.

You’re a fair few other tracks missing from your list non inclusions. For a start, “It’s Only Fantasies” from the These Are The Laws single is missing, as is “Standing In The Shadows” from her 1983 tour, along with “How Could You Be So Understanding” (a Turning Stones outtake). Not forgetting John Lennon’s “Love” from the Bermuda Box set and “Dreaming Of Another World” a 1979 outtake. Another song I discovered quite recently from a VA compilation of the late 90s called “Everything I Don’t Need” is also a song Judie wrote and sung on not on there and “I Feel Paradise” with the Freemasons also isn’t on there also. She even did covers of “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore” and “I Can’t Make You Love Me” besides.

Philip Birtwistle

Reply from Wrassse :

The master was given to us with this fault. I will come back to you soon after we had discussed what Judie Tzuke’s management what to do with this issue

Well I guess they could just Re-Press the Discs and send them to those who have the issue, that would be simplest.

Lewis-John Abbott

The Judie Tzuke Box Set really is something to treasure, Beautifully presented and done with a lot of care.

Wrasse Records really are a wonderful Record Company, I bought my copy directly from them and it came within 24 hours from being posted for a great price too for 24 CD’s.

They are very helpful as I had a lot of questions to ask first before I bought it as I was concerned about the packaging and how the Discs are held within, They are beautifully protected and easy to remove and to replace in the set.

As other reviewers and myself have said, Yes there is this error in the transfer of the Music on the “Queen Secret Keeper” Disc at the end of Track 12 “Lion” but that really doesn’t bother me whatsoever as the track is on the individual CD Album and the “Moon On A Mirrorball” 2 CD Compilation.

I’ve very glad there are some B-sides and Extended Versions as bonus tracks on the “Shoot The Moon”, “Left Hand Talking” and “Wonderland” CD’s an extra treat.

So all in all this Box Set is superb and i’m loving every second of it.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review.

Steve F

Many thanks to Lewis-John Abbott for outlining what Bonus Tracks are included on what albums and also for confirming the Track Listing for “More From The Moon” Bonus CD.

From what I’ve learned, only the following B Sides have been omitted from the Box Set:

It’s The Night (B Side – could’ve been added to “Sportscar”)
Dangerous Toys (B Side – could’ve been added to “Turning Stones”)
Love Is Not For Sale (B Side – could’ve been added to “Turning Stones”)

There are a number of Alternate Versions and 12″ Extended Mixes missing, but it’s the omission of these 3 B Sides that dissapoints. That aside, this looks very comprehensive and I’m very much looking forward to my copy arriving in the post from Amazon UK this coming week.

Lewis-John Abbott

My pleasure Steve F, The 3 tracks you mentioned have never been included on any issues of the albums before so that is probably why we have no fresh transfers of tracks.

“Dangerous Toys” is featured on CD on the “We’ll Go Dreaming” CD Single.

There have unfortunately been a few reviewers have said about the “Queen Secret Keeper” CD on the track “Lion” that there are 2 drop outs in sound around the 6 minute mark.

Mine is like this too so please, If yours is the same please post on here.

After playing all Discs now, this IS the only issue with production.

I like yourself have been a life long Judie Tzuke fan and so I bought the box set yeh same problem with the track Lion from Queen Secret Keeper. Did you resolve your problem and how did you do it. I’ve already had a replacement from Amazon and same problem reoccurred.

Philip Birtwistle

Another faulty disc. EMail sent to Wrasse. Let’s be hopeful!!

Philip Birtwistle

Which Disc is Faulty in your set?

Myself and another reviewer it’s Queen Secret Keeper.

Neil Hunt

I’ve been working my way through this fantastic box set over the last few days. Has anyone else got a faulty Queen Secret Keeper disc? Mine has 2 very noticeable dropouts on track 12 (Lion) just before the 6 minute mark. I ripped the disc into an audio editing program and can clearly see the 2 dropouts at 5:57 and 6:00. I’ve contacted Wrasse Records to check if other discs are faulty or if it is just mine. Hopefully it is just my copy, which can be replaced.

After reading your review I checked mine and YES mine has the 2 drop outs in the same place you mentioned, It’s not a disc issue but a transfer issue isn’t it, So I guess it’s a faulty batch of this disc.

Neil Hunt

Thanks for confirming your disc is the same. I’ve already emailed Wrasse Records who I bought the box set from directly and received a reply this morning stating the same as what Philip Birtwistle quoted above. I would guess, and hope, that the disc will get re-pressed. I have had good service from Wrasse Records regarding my order for this box set and they always reply to my emails very quickly so I’m sure they and Judie Tzuke’s people will be sensible about this and offer replacement discs.

I’ve just double checked my disc on my computer and 2nd Hi-Fi and YES it is definitely not a Disc issue and that the problem is in the transfer of the Music, The Disc does not skip or stick it is actually in the recorded works. So if we return the discs we will probably end up with another with the same issue.

If you have the CD “Moon On A Mirrorball” the song is on there with no issues.

Neil Hunt

Good news regarding the faulty Queen Secret Keeper CD – I received an email from Wrasse Records this afternoon confirming that they will send me a replacement disc when available. This is very quick and efficient service as they’ve only just been advised of the problem today.

Lewis-John Abbott

Also it is worth noting that for timing constraints as it was originally released as a double Album the last track on “RoadNoise The Official Bootleg” Album called “The Hunter” has been moved to the 13 Track “More From The Moon” Bonus Disc and the Tracklisting for that CD is:

1. If ( When You Go ) ( From “Moon On A Mirrorball” )
2. Uneasy ( From “Song Club 1” )
3. Venus ( From “Song Club 2” )
4. Leaning ( From “Moon On A Mirrorball” )
5. Submarine Boy ( From “Moon On A Mirrorball” )
6. Looking ( From “Song Club 1” )
7. So Emotional ( From “Song Club 1” )
8. Moon To My Sun ( From “Song Club 2” )
9. Never Mine ( From “Song Club 2” )
10. My Life Breaking Down ( From “Song Club 1” )
11. Love Me No More ( From “Moon On A Mirrorball” )
12. Turn The Page ( From “Song Club 2” )
13. The Hunter ( From “RoadNoise The Official Bootleg” )

Lewis-John Abbott

I received my Box Set directly from Wrasse Records and YES some CD’s contain the Bonus Tracks.

Shoot The Moon has the 2 Demos and 2 B-Sides

Left Hand Talking Contains the two 12″ Versions and the 2 B-Sides.

Wonderland contains the B-Side “In The Morning”.

Turning Stones contains the B-Side “All They Can Do Is Talk”.

The Cat Is Out is just the standard 10 Track Album, The Bonus Tracks on the 2001 release have been removed.

I do believe the Non Big Moon Albums have been Re-Mastered, I haven’t compared them with the originals yet, but they do sound much better.

No, the albums haven’t had any remastering to them shockingly!
They sound just the same as they did.

Surprised some people here have not heard of her, but did not know she had made this many records. When I was at Uni I was the Hall/JCR President fro a year, which meant I got free tickets for all the Hall Parties that year. I only went to a couple – I’m not a party person (sleep is my drug!) and in a sense of fairness spread all tickets around the Hall committee. I did not regret that – except that one of the parties had this new singer who some people said was going to be big.Later, after I’d heard her debut record, I regretted not going to see Judie Tzuke. The first album was massive, then she very quickly almost disappeared from public view. If she had only ever done SWMTD and For You that should have been enough to cement her reputation for all time. I’ve not heard of most of these albums, but am certainly tempted to invest. She had great song writing talent as well as a voice.

Julian H

I think John “Rhino” Edwards, Jeff Rich and Mike Paxman all played in her band – two of them ended up in Status Quo, one of them is still with them, and the third one became their producer. So there’s another link…

You’re quite right Julian and Mike Paxman was also a dab hand on guitar and could knock out a great solo to boot as part of Judies’ band and songwriting team on her earlier tours. Also of note, on her first headline British tour in 1980 she was supported by a band named Graduate who became SDE faves Tears For Fears and on her following tour was supported by A Flock Of Seagulls who nurtured a cult following. Ms Tzuke also headlined a night at Glastonbury no less in 1982.

Hope these will be available individually too? I just bought her new album with Beverley Craven and Julia Fordham. Judie is an amazing songwriter.

Steve F

@Paul – is there any way of finding out…

A:- If the Individual albums will include Bonus Tracks (B Sides, 12″ Extended Mixes)

[When “Cherry Red Records” re-released “Left Hand Talking”, it included 4 Bonus Tracks: SAFE HOUSE / DOG ROSE / OUTLAWS (12″ VERSION) / GOD ONLY KNOWS (12″ ALTERNATIVE MIX)]

Similalrly, when a Remastered version of “Shoot The Moon” was released in 2006, it also included 4 Bonus Tracks:

The original CD Version of “Turning Stones” featured ALL THEY CAN DO IS TALK as a Bonus Track (presumably, this’ll be included on the CD version in the Box Set as well]

B:- What the tracklisting of the “More From The Moon” Bonus CD is..?

Also, it may be worth amending the list of albums to note that the following are (Live):
CD. 5 – Roadnoise – The Official Bootleg (Live)
CD.12 – Over The Moon (Live)
CD.14 – Six Days Before The Flood (Live)
CD.21 – The October Road (Live)

It has been mentioned elsewhere that the BBC In Concert CD has been omitted, which is a great shame as copies of this on CD are appear to be as rare as Unicorn Shit on the Moon!

Josh Higgins

I have spoken via email with Jamie Muggleton at Big Moon Records. Unfortunately, all the various record companies they had to license from were only offering the albums. Therefore, the boxset does not contain any bonus tracks.

Larry Davis

Saw the price drop…down to 84.99 pounds and with the VAT removed… That’s like 73 and converted to US dollars, it’s like $98 which for a 24CD coffee table bookbox like the Dead Or Alive and Debbie Gibson sets, I’m happy to have taken the plunge…I cancelled other orders to make room in my budget for this one…just felt it in my gut not to cancel it, would regret it…and the price may even drop some more…who knows??

When you consider that Ian Hunter’s 30CD box set is still in the £250 bracket. Six discs less and this one is just £84.99. Makes you wonder doesn’t it. Citing licensing etc rings a bit hollow. I got the Nazareth box for just over the ton mark and that has over 40 discs, CD’s, vinyl and 7″s.

Paul Mayle

Been a hige fan from the start, got them all, great collection though, seen her live many times, an amazing woman, musicaly and otherwise , she makes Adele look like a pub singer

Larry Davis

Name didn’t ring a bell…so I went to Wikipedia and saw she worked with a few people I like, such as Lucie Silvas…so she got me curious…went to YouTube…holy smokes!! This woman is AMAZING…I saw she had this one big hit in the UK, “Stay With me Till Dawn” (#16 UK), but it didn’t hit the US charts, saw she was on Rocket Records and Elton had her open for him at NYC’s Central Park, 450K people, he wanted to break her in the US, but it didn’t work…she is more a “personal” artist than a mass appeal one…I watched a few videos and I was struck by her range…some piano & strings, some Kate Bush-esque, some have hard rock elements…really cool stuff…vocally, she has this sexy rasp that reminded me of Kim Wilde or if Natasha Bedingfield was any good…she has a great melodic sense and an individuality I love…I ordered the set…came to $115US with the VAT removed, not a bad deal at all, with 24 discs!! I took the chance, and at least I have an idea of what she is like, not buying totally blind…she is like a new discovery for me…thanks Paul!!

Hans Jörg

Never heard of her. Will check YouTube

@Phil Morris:
So she supported Elton John. Doesn’t mean every one of the 450,000 will buy her albums or care for her music.
I’ve gone to plenty of shows with opening acts that didn’t impress me.
You ask 100 or 1,000 or even 10,000 New York people in the demographics that could like her and I’m sure very few will know who she is.

I think Mr Morris was merely pointing out her former status. She has released plenty of good stuff in her time and sure not everyone has heard it or heard of her but if you know some of her stuff this is a great opportunity to acquire her back catalogue at a bargain price. On her early British tours Graduate (who became Tears For Fears) and Flock Of Seagulls both opened for her, not everyone purchased their albums or cared for them but plenty did! This is a quality release wether or not you like or have heard of the artist and thanks to SDE for recognising that and publishing without prejudice.

Robert Laversuch

Sublime – absolute steal at that price! So many of those albums are impossible to find or super expensive so no brainer- ordered

If I didn’t have every single one of these, I would buy in a heartbeat. A good half-dozen of those LPs are superlative and worth the low cost … and you get all the rest, too.

P.S. Did someone mention that headline should be “Judie”?

Judie Tzuke is a national treasure.

Not just a beautiful voice but a stellar songwriter too.

This is a superb collection – just a shame it’s CD only. I have now stopped buying CDs completely and am actually getting rid of them. Vinyl is the only format worth listening to or investing in.

However, can’t wait to see her on the Woman to Woman tour with mesdames Craven and Fordham. I’ve heard bits of the album and it is utterly sublime. Could be a big hit if radio stations and the likes of Chris Evans/ Graham Norton got behind it.

For those who are unfamiliar, this boxset is definitely not an option, but I would strongly recommend that any serious music fan has ‘Welcome to the Cruise’, ‘Shoot the Moon’ and ‘Queen Secret Keeper’ in their collection as a minimum. In 1978 it was Kate Bush getting all the attention and unfortunately Tzuke was relegated to the sidelines, but her debut album is a classic and a real achievement for a very young female singer songwriter.

Viva Judie!!!!

BTW Paul, any news on the forthcoming Marianne Faithfull LP?

Golden Age Of Tory Bollocks, Brexit Deal My Arse!

Six months ago I`d have been right in for this, because it`s a bargain innit and she really is talented. However these things have to pass the 3 Quetions Test, all 3 have to be YES;

1) Will I play all the Albums?

2) Will I play them more than once?

3) Do I really need/want this?

The answers, 1) NO, 2) NO, 3) NO.

That is why I am now selling several CDs/LPs/Box Sets.

I’m starting to ask the same questions before buying sets like this!

Yeah, box set fatigue! I never have bought that many compared to some people here but I’m cutting right back. There are only so many hours in a day and so much storage space. I cancelled orders for the Barry White box set and Bob Dylan’s More Blood (but I am getting the digital copy of that).

The fact is I have £2.50 charity shop CD finds that I play more than some pretty costly box sets…:)

Gareth Jones

24 CDs?? Embarrassed to say I still only know her one hit!

Steve F

IMMEDIATE PRE-ORDER! This is a dream come true Paul! Can’t wait for this to be released!

Definitely a mostly British artist. Never heard of her on the other side of the pond.

Phil Morris

Apart from playing to 450,000 in New York Central Park. Albeit, supporting Elton John.

You mean, apart from supporting Elton John playing to 450,000. “Subtle” difference I’m sure :-)

She also has a new album coming out in November “Woman to woman” with Beverley Craven and Julia Fordham.

Sportscar is an awesome album by the way!!

Phil Morris

Album already out.

My bad…saw it on amazon as an import out soon.

Thomas Beattie

Take note of the price Paul McCartney.
Superb Value for the Judie Tzuke fan.

Phil Morris

Not if you already have everything. Even the bonus disc doesn’t include anything rare. (Although I’m quite pleased as it addresses any “quandary” over buying it.)

Philip Birtwistle

A shame the BBC In Concert disc ain’t in there, that was pretty fab, but otherwise a great collection at a superb price!!

Phil Morris

It is a pity. Presumably a licensing issue. Though fortunately BBC 6Music regularly airs the show.
