The Maccabees / The Complete Collection: 6LP+DVD vinyl box set

Fiction have announced a ‘limited edition’ one-off run vinyl box set featuring the albums of recently disbanded English indie-band The Maccabees.

The Complete Collection is a 6LP vinyl set that features all the albums – Colour It In, Wall Of Arms, Given To The Wild (2LP) and Marks To Prove It, along with a bonus vinyl of of acoustic versions, B-sides and the unreleased track Nimm from the Marks To Prove It album recording session.

This set also comes with a DVD containing the feature length documentary Elephant Days.

The Complete Collection features reworked original album art designed by long-time friend Matt de Jong and all the albums come in an outer sleeve with all The Maccabees logos on the spine.

Does anyone else have an issue with the actual printing? I’ve got no artwork for Wall of Arms at all and Given to the Wild is printed upside down!
All the vinyl is there.
Agree with other comments , I’m not sure that the packaging format will last too well.

Mike Murray

Agree with David TW – disappointed by the packaging. Expected better. At the farewell show I went to picked up the photography collection which was produced to a high professional standard. In contrast this has a flimsy cover, clumsy joined together lps and poor inner plain white sleeves. Given the cost, the cheap packaging is a let down.
BTW I don’t have any info on two tacks on disc 6 The Truth and Koya. Does anyone know where they feature in the band’s career. Again packaging with information like this really should be part of the package. Great band, especially live, shame this collection ends their days this way.

@Mike Murray: Yeah, the “booklet” format really just does not work with heavyweight records! Fine for CDs, sure, but this is just a clumsy, awkward item to handle. I’m glad to have it, but it could and should have been so, so much better.

Well, it’s here. I’ve not opened it yet, but the slipcase is really far too flimsy for the weight of all that 180g vinyl and arrived squished at the corners. Shame, really.

I thought my eyes were deceiving me there….. buy yes HMV have this on pre-sale for £59.99, so expect Amazon to lower their pre-order price shortly to match that. Either way both fantastic prices for this amount of physical content in a box set (others watch and learn)!

Great band. I only have the first and last albums (and on CD!), so this might be worthwhile…

Kevin Barrett

They split up far too soon, great band!

David Carter

They played their last shows in June sadly, saw them back in 2014 a great band and I have also snapped this up from Amazon

The Maccabees have already disbanded (for what it’s worth).

I grabbed this at Amazon’s price, which with free Prime delivery will likely be at least £20 cheaper than on the Maccabees’ own site, given that I suspect they will charge at least £6 P&P. A steal at £61 for six slabs of vinyl and a DVD.

23 euros P&P to the Netherlands…

Bought it at Amazon for around 72 euros all-in instead of a total of 103 euros at the Universal-website.

Thanks for the tip, SDE!
