Neil Young / Earth

earth_ny

Neil Young will release a double live album, Earth, next month which features 11 songs from across his career, including selections from After The Gold Rush, On The Beach and Sleeps With Angels.

The music was recorded with his band for the 2015 Monsanto Years tour, Promise of the Real and Neil has this to say about the music:

“98 uninterrupted minutes long, EARTH flows as a collection of 13 songs from throughout my life, songs i have written about living here on our planet together. our animal kingdom is well represented in the audience as well and the animals, insects, birds and mammals actually take over the performances of the songs at times.”

Earth also features a previously unreleased song, I Won’t Quit. The album will be issued on 17 June as a 3LP vinyl package and as a two-CD set.

There is no “delay”, its was always August right from the start. Amazon had an incorrect release date for the vinyl, as per my previous posts, i assume they incorrectly used the same date as the cd release.

Amazon get it wrong very frequently, its always more accurate to check the artist website.

JWL

Vinyl delayed until August 12th.

Eric

perfect primer before I see him at the Desert trip festival

JWL

Interesting that he puts this out on CD, but the last box set of original album reissues were only on vinyl or Pono downloads – meaning if you want say, Tonight’s the Night on CD you can only get the original compact disc transfer from the early 90s… boy, is Neil frustrating…

Greg

I agree about it being frustrating. Neil Young emphasises sound quality but then he:
* releases a string of Performance Series Discs on HDCD with accompanying DVD Video discs (eg Massey Hall) then releases Bluenote Café from that series on standard CD only
* puts a message on his website urging people to buy the Bluray version of Archives but then lets that go out of stock for the last three to four years.

Having said that, I’m still one of those souls waiting for Archives Vol 2 :)

Donal Murphy

On Neil Youngs official website, they confirm a date of August 12th as the vinyl release date:
http://neilyoung.warnerbrosrecords.com/limited-edition-poster-earth-3lp-vinyl.html?intcmp=160422%2Fnyoung%2Fwbr%2Fspl%2Fs_pr%2Fbut%2Fbdy%2Fww%2Fneilyoung_earth-vinyl-bundle-preorder

So, why Amazon has the wrong date, is beyond me.

Julian Hancock

That price (£30) seems remarkably cheap for a double vinyl album in the light of the pricing of his recent releases. Has someone finally seen sense?

Mark

Still waiting for Archives 2…….

Donal Murphy

On Archives volume 1, the only format that matters was on blu ray, simply staggering sound. While the Blu Ray downloads were overhyped and not as good as originally promised, there was still a nice few tracks on the downloads that were worth having.(only with Blu Ray edition) I’m with Alan on this, its certainly up there with the best of all time On the comtemporary live albums, there was “Deja Vu Live’ in 2008,while technically a CSNY release, it effectively showcased Neil’s 2006 album “Living With War” album.

Keep em coming Neil, and get Archives Vol 2 out this year.

Alan Blevin

I agree that Archives 2,3,4etc are what I most want.I disagree about Volume 1 which I think is the greatest box set of all time.
This is actually the first contemporary Neil live album since Road Rocks in 2000.A listening party was held a few nights ago and apparently it is a bizarre experience.Neil has basically taken audience noise out and replaced it with animal sounds not only at the end of songs but sometimes during them.Be prepared!
Free The Archives!

I love Neal but he needs to stop putting out live albums out every four months and finish Archives 2. Archive 1 was a complete cop out and essentially a greatest hits collection. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m still going to get this! ;-)

Simon F

Totally agree Charles. I recently managed to get Archives 1 on DVD at a real knock down price and my initial delight swiftly turned to disappointment over it’s music contents. He should follow Dylan’s example with the Bootleg Series.

Charles K.

Dylan has been amazing with archival releases. Auto correct must have hit me or something, that of course should have been Neil.

Dr Avalanche

According to Amazon this is the correct tracklisting:

Disc: 1
Mother Earth
Seed Justice
My Country Home
The Monsanto Years
Western Hero
Vampire Blues
Hippie Dream
After the Gold Rush
Human Highway
Disc: 2
Big Box
People Want to Hear About Love
Wolf Moon
Love and Only Love

Could you verify that this 13 track listing is correct, Paul?

raffaele

the tracklist makes no mention of the previously unreleased song, I Won’t Quit….

JohanE

I won’t quit = Seed justice

Dr Avalanche

I am a litte bit confused; Is it 13 or 11 songs? :)

Donal Murphy

BTW, the triple vinyl version is not available until August
