We still have some of both on the SDE shop > https://www.thesdeshop.com/collections/new-in
Split Enz “newly remastered from the original master tapes” but no compact discs, no high resolution downloads, vinyl only?
Thanks for nothing, Demon.
And while we’re on the subject, i’m not interested in album jackets converted to 3D, scratch and sniff labels, vinyl that glows in the dark, or any other sad gimmick you come up with.
i’m a middle aged adult, and if i buy music it needs to be a non-degradable format.
Calm down dear!!
Neil, are you aware that Pete Paphides’ Needle Mythology is preparing the first Finn brothers album for re-release on vinyl *and also on compact disc*, probably with bonus tracks, as i type?
If my remarks read to you as emotional, it’s because there’s no excuse for Demon selling tourist trinket *vinyl only* when they could have shown proper respect while remastering this music. Deluxe compacts discs could have easily included all the tracks from the varying previous releases of these albums.
Tracks left out, no choice of format, Demon has disrespected the band and the band’s fans with this release.
With respect, you don’t know how ‘easily’ they could have done anything. They are licensing this music from a third party. The one thing that virtually never happens is that the third party gives you any digital rights, so download code/streaming is out of the question. The third party could have denied CD for some reason. You (we) have no idea. Pete has a personal relationship with Neil Finn which allows him to influence and leverage things which otherwise might not happen.
With both respect and appreciation, Mr. Sinclair, there is no question that due to their capacity compact discs would have accommodated the entirety of songs which comprised the varying issues of “Mental Notes” and “Second Thoughts” easily.
If Reservoir Media Management denied the option of compact discs, Demon should have moved on to another project.
The number of details i don’t know about this matter are many, i’m sure. But i do know that if consumers don’t speak up about releases that don’t do justice to the original music and don’t offer multiple playback options, there will be more trash forthcoming and less treasure.
i very much appreciate your site and what you do. You may not like me continuing to raise my vinyl-only release complaints here, but i cannot think of a better place to connect with others who share my position. i am open to your suggestions for an alternative with gratitude.
As a CD fan I do share your frustration. The Prefab Sprout remasters weren’t issued on CD which was a travesty. Unlike with Split Enz, Sony own all that output outright, and really could have ‘easily’ released them!
100% agree with you. I don’t get the general public either where they’d rather buy something based on ‘cool’ or ‘hip’ factor (I.e. vinyl) over purest studio quality audio (e.g. Blu-ray Audio or other high resolution media) or, as you suggest, something non degradable, like CD.
The judie tzuke set looks a little bit redundant,
When you realise her career spanning box has been coming down in price recently.
To be honest, I always thought her chrysalis releases were judie treading water.
Peter m. If I’m not mistaken, I think that box set omitted the final track ‘The Hunter’ from the ‘Road Noise’ album.
No Split Enz CD reissues?
Possibly worth the admission price alone for the song title “Tony Wilson Said”. Manchester, so much to answer fer…
Badly Drawn Boy’s “Banana Skin Shoes” comes out this Friday, May 22.
Thats nice, haven’t heard from BDB in a long while.
The first 5 tracks that I’ve heard are excellent
