Out This Week / on 9 March 2018
Marillion / Brave (reissue)
Marillion‘s 1994 album is given the deluxe treatment. Like Misplaced Childhood this boasts a Steven Wilson 5.1 mix, although at first glance it’s not quite as comprehensive.
Jimi Hendrix / Both Sides Of The Sky
Both Sides Of The Sky is a ‘new’ Jimi Hendrix album. 10 of the 13 tracks featured here are previously unreleased. Available on CD and vinyl LP.
Tom Waits / Closing Time (vinyl reissue)
Tom Waits‘ 1973 debut Closing Time is reissued on vinyl LP. The rest of his 1970s Elektra Asylum releases are set to be reissued ANTI-Records during 2018.
David Byrne / American Utopia (new album)
Out this week is David Byrne‘s first solo studio album since 2004. The album includes the song Everybody’s Coming To My House co-written by Brian Eno.
Porcupine Tree / Deadwing (vinyl reisue)
Steven Wilson’s rock band Porcupine Tree released Deadwing in 2005 and its predecessor In Absentia in 2002. Both are reissued on vinyl this week.
Nico / Chelsea Girl (vinyl reissue)
Nico‘s debut solo album was issued six months after The Velvet Underground and Nico in October 1967. It’s reissued on ‘Back to Black’ vinyl.
Judas Priest / Firepower
Judas Priest release their 18th studio album, Firepower. Deluxe CD with enhanced packaging and limited RED vinyl available.
They Might Be Giants / I Like Fun (new album)
I still have a real soft-spot for the Brooklyn duo’s early records and remarkably I Like Fun is They Might Be Giants‘ twentieth studio album. The CD came out in January; this is the vinyl edition.
Erasure / World Beyond
A year on from 2017’s World Be Gone, comes this a companion piece – a re-recorded classical version of all the songs on the Erasure album. Sure to match the popularity of Percy ‘Thrills’ Thrillington’s take on Macca’s RAM.
Decent price for the TMBG vinyl, thanks for the heads up.
I hope to come over and catch one of the shows at their UK tour this fall.
The ‘new’ Hendrix album made me realise we haven’t had a ‘new’ Tupac album for a while!
I thought Waits’ first album came out in ’73
Surely worth noting the the first 6 Stranglers albums were re-issued last week, complete with bonus tracks (singles edits, B sides etc), Not sure if they’ve been re-mastered and they are in jewell cases rather than digipacks, but at least one seemingly knowledgable reviewer on Amazon seems to think that they are better than earlier re-issues. All available for under a tenner.
First 7…. X-Cert is also re-released with extra (previously unreleased) live tracks.
Does anyone know when the final set of PSB reissues are coming out?
if you mean behaviour very and bilingual probably in 2/3 months as that has been the rough timetable so far
Paul, another question abouth Hendrix’s new release… do you know if there will be release with bonus tracks on Target, Japan edition, or any other placer? (because the previous part of this “thrilogy” had them). Tks!
As far as I’m aware, the Fischerspooner album is a digital-only release, unless anyone has a link for physical formats. Also, the digital release landed on 16 February, so not a new release this week.
Looking forward to Erasure. The preview single is really nice.
Love the work you put into this site, Paul. Much appreciated.
Discogs seems to concur about Fischerspooner being digital only. Sigh. I want a disc, damn it.
I’m sorry Paul, I can’t find any info of the Hendrix’s edtion of 3cds+1dvd. I followed the link and read it before and I just see “1 cd or/and 2 vinyls”
Apologies… that was an error. It’s just CD and vinyl for that release. Now corrected
Thank you Paul!! Your site it is “a must” to check everyday. Cheers!
Don’t forget the new album by Fischerspooner. Its called “Sir”. Also the Pet Shop Boys reissued. I’m not too excited about Erasures new release. Not big on Orchestral arrangements of their new album. But the actual album was quite good.
Pet Shop Boys reissues came out last week.
That’s amusing the poster being called memoryboy and forgetting the Pet Shop Boys came out last week. I thought so anyway.
Maybe he ordered from Amazon in the UK. I’m a prime member who ordered the Pet Shop Boys reissues last year.
The CDs eventually turned up today, the vinyl only shipped yesterday and due tomorrow……
Yes its time for a name change if I keep forgetting things, LOL
It did? Omg, I better get on that then. Thanks
Typo: It’s Byrne’s first solo album since 2004.
Thanks. Corrected.
