PiL box sets delayed
Fans who have pre-ordered the Public Image Limited Metal Box and Album super deluxe editions direct from the official stores yesterday received an email saying the sets would be delayed.
Fans were told that “unfortunately there has been a delay with the manufacturing of Metal Box and Album which were previously due for release on Friday 28th October.
At this time we do not have an exact date when we expect these to be available but we will be in contact with you to advise once we have a confirmed date.”
Revealing that they don’t know when these will be available is a little strange and a cynic might suggest there is more to this than a simple manufacturing issue. It is also not clear whether this is just affecting vinyl sets or the CD super deluxe editions too. More info on this when we have it.

Got my copy of Album. It’s gorgeous. Haven’t listened yet.
Hi, for me the problem gets ethic I mean the delay could happen but normally they ask your credit card number and charge you when the item is shipped not the contrary. So you take my money before send me the stuff? Without telling anything? A gift to excuse could be polite but I never think they’re just merchant in the worst meaning
From PIL official
Both the CD & vinyl editions of Metal Box & Album super-deluxe box sets are back in stock for pre-order from the Official Universal Store. Last week the store ran out of its allocated pre-order stock, this has now been rectified.
You should have received communication from us last week advising that there was a delay with the manufacturing of Metal Box and Album which were previously due for release on Friday 28th October. As promised, please find an update regarding the new release dates of the releases:
9th Dec 2016
PiL – Metal Box Super Deluxe CD
PiL – Album Super Deluxe CD
16th Dec 2016
PiL – Metal Box Super Deluxe LP
PiL – Album Super Deluxe LP
You will received email confirmation once your order ships.
Disappointed with the delay but hope they continue to honour the early orders with signed copies.
Dang this is confusing! I pre-ordered a copy yesterday from Importcds.com for a total of $53 including shipping. I guess it will be a miracle if I actually get it. That was the best price I found, by the way.
If Universal is in fact sold out, I hope they set aside enough quantities for the on-line sellers that are still listing the Metal Boxes as available for pre-order.
Update from the PIL Official site:
“As many of you had already guessed unfortunately the ‘Metal Box’ and ‘Album’ super-deluxe box sets (due for release today) have been delayed. This has been due to production capacity issues.
We are pleased though to now be able to confirm the CD editions will be released December 9th 2016, with the vinyl following on December 16th 2016. Thank you for your patience and support. “
There is now an update on the PIL official website (at last!):
As many of you had already guessed unfortunately the ‘Metal Box’ and ‘Album’ super-deluxe box sets (due for release today) have been delayed. This has been due to production capacity issues.
We are pleased though to now be able to confirm the CD editions will be released December 9th 2016, with the vinyl following on December 16th 2016. Thank you for your patience and support.
All 4 editions are available to pre-order from the Official Universal Store.
If you click on the links for the 2 CD box set and 2 LP box sets only the Album CD is available as the others have sold out. They have been sold out for a while so put a link to (already known) sold out items is amateur hour stuff!
Just got this update from PIL Official

“Disappointed”
Maybe it’s because McVitie’s Biscuits haven’t come through with the metal tin yet.
Not impressed.
FFS, why do record companies have to be such secret squirrels over this type of situation? The ‘cynic’ in me now also thinks there is something else going on with these other than manufacturing delays and not because of low preorder levels either or MB wouldn’t be sold out on Universal and not available on Amazon.co.uk.
Just went to the Universal site and the Deluxe cd and lp Metal Boxes are SOLD OUT! AmazonUK as well. It’s still listed for pre-order at other online music sale sites such as Importcds.com, Deep Discount, Bull Moose, etc. Wonder if they are actually going to get them?
It`s official, “The delay is to enable fans to save up for the box sets”.
Delay? Public Damage Limited.
Perhaps the delay is the result of an attack of guilt about the extortionate prices they are charging.
“Hang on, are we really charging these amounts? Surely it’s daylight robbery and we need to halve our prices?”
Maybe not, but you do wonder how these people sleep at night – take note, ‘pricers’ of the Human League 3LP……
You’d think they could use the extra time to add the other other version of Albatross to CD3. There is plenty of room for it. It isn’t a deal-breaker, but it is annoying.
Amazon Germany quotes a date for 27.January.17 for both CDs
The Universal Store website is now quoting 11th Nov for the CDs
Just received an e-mail from PiL Official:

So, looks like early December (assuming no further delays!).
… now its 9th december for the “album” cd box
