Pink Floyd’s Later Years box delayed

The ‘running a wee bit late’, years…
Pink Floyd‘s 18-disc Later Years box set has been delayed and will now be issued two weeks late, on 13 December 2019.
This has been blamed on “production and logistical” issues and even if you only want the digital download, you still have to wait. However, if you have ordered the 2LP vinyl or single CD ‘highlights’ edition then that will be available on 29 November, as planned.
The Later Years box concentrates on the post-Waters era, and highlights include
- A Momentary Lapse Of Reason updated and re-mixed by David Gilmour and Andy Jackson
- Over six hours of previously unheard audio and more than seven hours of previously unseen audio/visuals from A Momentary Lapse Of Reason, The Division Bell and The Endless River albums
- Full unreleased audio and remastered films from 1989’s Venice concert and 1990’s special Knebworth concert
- First ever release of Floyd’s last live performance with David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright together at the 2007 Syd Barrett Tribute Concert
The big box has come down in price (by as much as £100) since it was announced back in August, although with a price tag north of £300 it’s still not exactly cheap.
The Later Years box set will be issued on 13 December 2019.

If it’s anything like the last huge release they did, then there will be a separate release for each bit of the puzzle. Probably next year.
I hope so.
I’m only interested in the DLOT and the Venice concert blu-rays…
All I want is the new mix Momentary with blu ray and CD. I wish they would release these individually. I have no need for the big set.
Probably a quality control thing for a change they are rectifying errors before its released.. Jpc are not very good lately, my last 2 orders from them never showed up they did refund me but I
woildnt be surprised if they never sent them at all. will never order again from there even if its the cheapest option,
Can someone just clarify for my aging addled brain: Division Bell, Pulse and Endless River are not on CD in the box? Meanwhile content is duplicated across Blu and DVD – meaning if you have a Blu-Ray player you have DVDs that you don’t need, and if you have only a DVD player you have Blus you can’t play? Who do they run these ideas past – Silicon Valley pointy-heads who know nothing of physical products and solely have music beamed straight into their frontal lobes by the all-knowing, infinite and omniscient mind of Elon Musk???
Can probably clarify,if you have the wedge to spend on this, then you probably have£40notes to spend on a Blu-ray player, every TV in the last ten years is hi def,, so just look at the dvds as xtras, give them away if you want.they are probably freebies anyway and set would more than likely be the same price without the DVDs,but i could be wrong.
“…so just look at the dvds as xtras, give them away…”
Use the empty DVD spaces to store your own Blu-ray back-ups when, sorry I mean if, the originals start to fail…
Personally, I really wish DVD had been killed off when Blu-ray arrived – it’s just marketing persuading everyone that Blu-ray=Hi-def, which isn’t the case.
I can clarify : you are right. Division Bell, Pulse and Endless River are not on CD in the box. And you can add the Venice concert to the list.
And i agree with you about the duplicated content on Blur-ray AND on DVDs…
[…] forthcoming Pink Floyd box (delayed until Dec) has gone down in price again. £272 is almost £160 cheaper than when this was first announced. If […]
Bit of a price drop on Amazon at the moment..£272..
Put an order in but will see how it goes.
D.
I was tempted by the Venice Blu-ray and the Arnold Layne 7” because I was at the Syd Barrett tribute at the Barbican but this is not enough for £272! There’s too much Momentary Lapse and not enough Division Bell and where’s Live 8? Hopefully they’ll release the Venice ‘89 concert as a Blu-ray/CD package at some point when they need more money.
Indeed Dean….I have done the same…..
Gone down another £50 at Amazon UK = £273.
Not Really a rarity box set. In their first leg of the Reunion Tour they Played „echoes“. Why they didn‘t include that for example?! Knebworth on CD but Not Venice?!
The Price for this one must Go Down VERY much before I buy it … only to stay complete as a PF Maniac !
Should of split this bugger in more reasonable/cheaper sets. Blu-rays, DVDS, CDs, and LPs [if released]. Would sell a lot more.
Why no Division Bell on CD….
Similarly Knebworth concert included but not Venice on CD?
A 4 or 5 CD set featuring the studio albums and some live material, or just a live collection, would have been good for me. The single disc is not enough and the big box is too much. Besides, I’m saving up for the ridiculously expensive and expansive Gentle Giant box.
Big box far too expensive. No vinyl LPs, and what’s this with DVDs? Christ it isn’t the 90s ….
The Later Years 2LP … Christ it isn’t the 70s …
reminds or Smell the Glove by Spinal Tap being delayed while testing some new packaging materials “…have they got monkeys opening ‘em or what?”
Price at JPC is € 349,00 ! Not € 433,99 !
It’s not connecting through to the right page. JPC have mucked about with their listings…
Paul (and other die-hard Pink Floyd fans)
Question, so please pardon my ignorance.
Was there ever a collection of unreleased demos circa 86-87 of the ‘Astoria – Lapse of Reason’ sessions that Gilmour intended on releasing? I figured if they had existed, perhaps they would have been included. The Later Years seems a bit lacking on unreleased studio material prior to Division Bell/Endless River demos.’
Thoughts? Thanks!
Marc
Hi Marc,
no there wasn’t any sort of demo release in the works. The most I ever heard about this was the apocryphal tale that some enterprising bootleggers tried to record the Astoria sessions by scuba diving under the studio and recording it from underwater!
Extra reverb at least…
Read the appropriate thread on the Steve Hoffman forum. Apparently early versions of “Signs of Life” and “One Slip” were considered for inclusion but axed alongside “Peace Be With You”, the song that originally should have ended AMLOR and was the only song directed at Roger W. Then there’s Jon Carin’s original demo for “Learning to Fly” but that’s at least on YouTube.
I’ll wait until sometime next year, and let other people be the beta testers for the Blu-ray discs. I did the same thing for “The Early Years” and purchased it 5 months after release, after the “bugs” had been worked out.
