Rhino soundtrack reissue campaign offers some classics on coloured vinyl

Rhino are about to kick off a summer vinyl soundtrack campaign with many classic and cult film soundtracks issued on 140g vinyl, some of them in desirable coloured vinyl pressings.

Next week (15 June) sees the soundtrack to Stanley Kubrick’s 1987 war classic Full Metal Jacket which features Abigail Mead’s original score along with a selection of pop songs, such as Nancy Sinatra’s These Boots Are Made For Walkin’. This will be pressed on DARK GREEN vinyl.

A week later (22 June), the soundtrack to US horror classic The Lost Boys – which features music from INXS, Echo & The Bunnymen and Roger Daltrey – and the score to 2009 American superhero film Watchmen will both be issued. The Lost Boys will be pressed on WHITE vinyl, while Watchmen is offered on OPAQUE YELLOW vinyl.

The Who’s That Girl soundtrack (which features four songs by Madonna, including the title track which reached number one in the UK) will be issued on BLACK vinyl at the end of June (29th) along with the soundtracks to Beaches and Batman Forever (both also BLACK vinyl, but Beaches not currently available to pre-order).

The pick of the bunch is arguably Lalo Schifrin’s music to the Steve McQueen Classic Bullitt. Now up for pre-order and out at the end of June – it will be pressed on ORANGE vinyl!

Just cannot resist the Bullitt release bargain price

Yep. Major faux pas issuing “Who’s That Girl” on black. And odd considering the formats chosen for the others in this series.

Looks like Amazon screwed up with the pre-orders for the Full Metal Jacket release. I was straight on the pre-order button and the title remained as available on release day for some time after. I will not be receiving the record as according to Amazon live chat, their allocation has meant they couldn’t fulfil all pre-orders and I have to wait until 6th July to see if another delivery comes in. I’m suspicious that any further stock may be standard black vinyl. I’ve ordered through Juno for a cheaper price, admittedly P&P isn’t included, for delivery tomorrow. Amazon did credit my account with £5 for the balls up. Will see if the same happens with Lost Boys which I also pre-ordered for release day next Friday.

Ah OK. Thanks for confirming

Im so on bullitt..thanks Paul as ever

The Lost Boys is a terrific soundtrack. Favourite track: ‘Beauty Has Her Way’ by Mummy Calls. Sold.

A little bit of trivia for everyone: ‘Abigail Mead’ was a pseudonym for Stanley Kubrick’s daughter, Vivian Kubrick.

WTF? Lost Boys should be on RED vinyl!!!! Full Metal Jacket should be on camouflage green!

The soldiers don’t wear camouflage green in Full Metal Jacket. They wear dark green, just like Paul has listed in the article. This film was set during the Vietnam War…

Would have been cool to have Who’s That Girl on colored vinyl, since I already have multiple pressings of the regular black one.

Benjamin Adams

Bullitt on orange vinyl? It oughtta be on Mustang Green vinyl!

The Lost Boys is also available on red vinyl from Friday Records last time I checked. Previously an “exclusive” at Barnes and Noble I think?

Anyway, for those that might want the Batman Forever soundtrack on something other than black vinyl, Urban Outfitters has a purple and green 2LP version here:

Michel Banen

Who’s that girl should be on purple. Why get it again on black ???

And GREASE screams for a 40th anniversary edition with disc 1 on pink “Pink ladies” and disc 2 on Green / black swirl “T-Boys” colored vinyl.

Ah come on, Madonna coloured vinyl purrrleasssse!

Wonder if the Lost Boys will be remastered somewhat as it’s one of those early CDs that had a low volume, don’t want it brick walled but would be nice to have it more dynamic. If it is remastered, be great if there’s a download code in non compressed files as an option. Such an awesome soundtrack.

Waaaaaaaah! The Lost Boys! On Coloured vinyl! At a great price! One of my favourite soundtracks of all time. Cheers Paul!
