The Monkees / 50th anniversary sets

Rhino continue to celebrate The Monkees‘ golden anniversary with a pair of career-spanning music collections due later this month…

The Monkees 50, is a three-CD set packed with 50 songs from the band’s career, including She Makes Me Laugh and You Bring The Summer from their recent album Good Times!

The second collection is called Forever and is a single disc ‘hits’ set containing 14 tracks. Again, the new album is represented (via She Makes Me Laugh) bringing things right up to date. This is also available on vinyl.

Forever is out on 19 August 2016, while The Monkees 50 is released a week later.

Has anybody listened to Forever yet?
Mine came with vinyl and the triple.
What has Producer John Hughes done?!
The Forever tracks are *radically* remixed!
Or to my year 56 ears they are.Anyone?

Larry Davis

Still no “Kicks”…that Paul Revere cover is on no Rhino collection…still!!

No one noticed track 3 “You Just May Be The One (TV Version)” from the single disc is missing from ‘The Monkees 50’ set? It’s not a major song by any stretch, but found it odd.

still waiting on the partridge family box set…

Better collections have been released, as already said rather conservative with the tracks. Shame. I won’t be buying it.

Celebrate? Milk it is more like it.

A few years ago I bought The Works 3cd set with 68 tracks. It cost about half the price of this set. The Forever collection is a particularly meagre offering, even at the low price.

Nice to see they picked Regional Girl from Justus. Not only one of, if not the, best song on there, one of Micky’s best ever songs as well.

I have been a Monkees fan since I was 10 years old (1966)! My sister got The Monkees debut album for Christmas in ’66, I played it more than she did. My Mom used to say , You have gone ape over the Monkees. That about describes it. I just had my 60th Birthday last month, and I’m still an avid Monkee maniac!! What can I say, I have gone ape for the Monkees. I’ll be getting these to sets on vinyl!!!

Metal Mickey

Fantastic music of course, but aren’t those track listings a bit skimpy? The last official collection IIRC was “Monkeemania”, with 57 tracks over 2 CDs, which makes both these collections seem rather threadbare, notwithstanding the inclusion of those songs from the latest album…

I was thinking the same. This could comfortably sit on two discs. I have a three disc compilation which has about 23 songs per disc.

Did anyone get the bargain complete album boxset Paul posted from Amazon Spain a few months back ?

My order is sitting in limbo as Amazon Spain are sold out and it’s only higher priced Marketplace sellers there now. They are obviously not restocking as Amazon UK still have stock but at double the price.

Me too ;))
