The National / High Violet 3LP expanded

Triple-vinyl package • 8 extra tracks • Coloured vinyl

The National‘s 2010 album High Violet will be reissued as an expanded 10th anniversary 3LP coloured vinyl package in June.

The track listing for this new package is the same as the 2CD expanded edition that was issued six months after the original release, in November 2010. This includes unreleased tracks ‘You Were a Kindness’ and ‘Wake Up Your Saints’ as well as alternate versions, B-sides, and live recordings.

The album proper is across the first two LPs, with the third reserved for the bonus tracks. As can be seen from the image above, this release is being pressed on stunning white/violet coloured vinyl mix. These are numbered and come with a foil-blocked cover and a ‘bellyband’ (presumably the purple strip on the image).

High Violet 10th anniversary expanded 3LP coloured vinyl edition will be released on 19 June 2020. The 2CD set is still available.

Has anyone listened to this since the release? What’s the quality like?

Managed to get one on order rom RoughTrade. I love this album, England and Blood Buzz Ohio are particular highlights.

I’m a VMP Member but $60/£49 is just too Expensive when everyone else are offering similar Triple LP Versions for £35.00

P.S. They are still in Stock at Banquet Records!

Wee bit cheeky to call it a “10th Anniversary Expanded Edition” when it has the same content as the expanded 2CD release! Although, technically, it is also the 10th anniversary OF the expanded edition…

One way or another, this is a magnificent album – still their best, IMO.

Afraid Of Everyone, a song for the times we live in.

Wow that vinyl looks great!

Ordered mine on Vinyl Me Please. Although not cheap at $60 and I already have the original LP. Fortunately no shipping costs as I’m a VMP subscriber.

Paul Wren

The Vinyl Me version requires an up front three month club membership fee of $81 plus the purchase price of $60 to enable you to buy it. Therefore this will be the most limited/collectible of the vinyl options available.

The VMP version is limited to 1500 copies where as the bands own Cherrytree version is limited to 750 copies.

There are two additional vinyl variants – the National’s own Cherry Tree store has a purple/white split variant (and the proceeds go to help their touring crew out while the group isn’t touring), and Vinyl Me, Please will have a purple/white splatter version. Collect ’em all – or not – but get at least one if you don’t have one, as it’s a great record.

It is apparently already sold out in their webshop. Is the edition that restricted or will other retailers offer it?

700 copies

The page for the Cherry Tree split variant says:

Limited edition of 750.

That sounds to me like a pretty definitive “no” on other retailers for that variant. But that’s just my interpretation.

Yes – Rough Trade and 4ad also sold out – that went quick.
Vinyl Me Please still have some in a Nice violet splatter effect, and they have 1500 copies pressed – glad I’m a member.
Fantastic album – I don’t think they have topped this yet. The song ‘England’ is magnificent – one of my favourites – still sends a shiver up my spine. Sounds a great package with the extra tracks on the third LP – roll on June. Stay safe everyone.

Still available on Sound of Vinyl.

The Vinyl Me, Please version is Beautiful but quite expensive at 60 dollars…

A bellyband?! I’ve heard it all now…a bellyband with an obi-strip FTW!
