I wont be buying yet another copy of this brickwalled album. I already have the japan first press cd, first press vinyl, 13 track promo cd, sacd and japan deluxe 3cd set.
Even the sacd version sounds boring. Imho the album doesn’t flow as well without “step on”…
Will this “everything-in-the-red” album be better with either picture disc rumble or cassette hiss, I wonder.
for a band so poor, Oasis certainly live rent free in a load of middle-class people’s heads. private hell
Don’t Discogs call those ‘belly bands’ ‘obi strips’…
OBI strips are at the side.
OBI Strips are a Japanese thing. The name has just been adopted.
I remember Q magazine gave to 2/5 stars when it came out, for the dumb lyrics & derivative tunes. I think they were right!!!
Later on when “Be Here Now” came out, they thought they’d learnt their lesson & gave it 5/5. They must’ve been blinded by the publicity!!
Yes, I remember that two star review well. I think they are somewhat embarrassed by that now… although giving five stars to Be Here Now is a worse crime!
I hear that!!!
They didn’t want to get caught with their pants down again but unfortunately….
Oasis Quo indeed!
The problem with Q reviews is they ended up giving EVERY album 3 or 4 stars so they wouldn’t get criticized. Much preferred it when they put their necks on the line and said what the really thought. Right or wrong. On another point which magazines have people switched to after Q’s demise ?
This and Definitely Maybe are the only Oasis lp’s worth buying. They disappeared (even more) up their arses after this.
I would say dm was worth buying. Couldn’t say the same about morning glory, unfortunately…
Berwick Street was always my first stop when coming down to London from Scotland. My wife would do Oxford Street whilst I did the record shops
I don’t know why but I ordered the cassette.
I bought the cd in 95 and the LP.
The minidisc around 2000.
The remaster LP in 2009.
And the deluxe edition circa 2014
I guess I needed something more…
That’s what fan a made of.
Hearing you talk about all the music shops that are/were in the area where the cover was taken makes me nostaligis for the days when you could find stores everywhere. Even the little town I live in had three CD shops when I moved here 20 years ago. Now I have to drive over an hour down the Interstate to get to the only one in the area, and that one keeps reducing it’s stock in favor of t-shirts and other swag. I miss brick and mortar stores so much. When I used to go to NYC, they were on almost every single block–sometimes two or three. Now I have to scour the Village to find the few that are left. Sad times for music buyers.
Thanks for the film Paul. On the sleeve layout, it was always a triple fold out like that, but the photos and layout were changed when the remaster was released in 2010. Personally I preferred the original shots.
I have this too many times to get a silver pressing or picture disc lol.
Nice video Paul especially the bonus history trivia about Berwick Street’s record shops… I remember them all, a shopping trip to the West End at the time of that album cover always meant a trawl down from Oxford Street (HMV and Virgin megastores) along Berwick Street (Selectadisc, Reckless and Sister Ray), to good ol’ Steve’s Sounds in Chinatown.
A sad day when Mister CD and Steve’s Sounds shut their slightly haphazard, cluttered shops! But I’m pleased that Sister Ray is still going, along with Reckless (second-hand, but they do stock new reissue LPs these days too)
Oh yeah, I should post a comment about the picture discs… er, very nice they look too.
Steve’s sounds there’s a blast from the past I picked up loads there when I lived in London 94-99
how many memories of Berwick St. how many cds and vinyls bought… Reckless, Selectadisc, MisterCD, Music & Video Exchange….
The Oasis remasters gave me the worst headache since the Some Girls remastering debacle. I only assume they are still repressing that painful brickwalled experience. But on picture disc I guess it does not matter.
