I rest my case!
Hey Mic, isn’t that what broke up Spinal Tap?
This may sound cynical, and honestly I am not trying to be, but has there been any occasion in rock music’s past where bringing in a spouse with little or no proven pedigree as a collaborator has produced something truly worthwhile?
I can think of Rumours by Fleetwood Mac as an exception (sort of) that proves the rule. But even that was a bit different to this.
By and large when famous or popular artists bring in family members, husbands or wives it generally ain’t that great, is it?
I say this as someone who only really liked 1970’s Floyd music and am coming at this from a generalist’s point of view. Gilmour can do what he wants as far as I’m concerned. It’s pretty much his band and his reputation that stands or falls by this new album and it’s not likely to find its way into my personal collection. I’m happy for anyone that does enjoy it though.
Ordered the bluray & CD box set
David i am with you we all have our fave Pink Floyd albums, Polly over the years has written better lyrics than Dave?
This is not the way Pink Floyd should go out.
These sessions should have been an extra in the Division Bell box. I don’t see it as a tribute to Rick when he must have originally been part of the editorial process and decided they weren’t right for the final album.
As with DB, it also doesn’t sit right with Polly writing the lyrics. As patchy as AMLOR was, it at least felt genuine.
Division Bell lyrics were OK.
The lyrics for Louder Than Words are utter garbage and juvenile.
Still think P Sampson’s lyrics for the Division Bell were better than D Gilmour’s lyrics for Momentary Lapse. I have no problem with a songwriter telling a lyricist what they want and working with them till they deliver the goods. It’s how Brian Wilson managed to make a coherent album like Pet Sounds despite being a (usually) terrible to mediocre lyricist. The band knew what they wanted to say, and knew that Polly could string the words together better than they could. Good solution.
I agree Philip in regards to Polly’s lyrics hmm i think in the end Rogers’s
lyrics while in Pink Floyd as we all know were amazing and even when Roger left Pink Floyd all those years ago, i am sure some her lyrics crept into some of the latter day Pink Floyd material and judging by The Endless River you will find she has written a little more.
Well, Don’t blame David Gilmour for the lyrics. They come from the pen of his wife Polly Sampson.
When Roger left, so did the lyrics.
I’m really looking forward to this, but isn’t David Gilmour starting to look like Whispering Bob Harris?
hier sieht man das HAUSBOOT und David Gilmour im Filmchen.
Gruss
Papa
Same to you.
Did that lyric go……..’We bitch and we fight, we dis each other on sight’?
Dis?
If so then that is a line I would expect from Miley Cyrus or one of her teenage fans not Pink Floyd and it sounds totally bloody awful.
Makes me a bit more confident to buy this.
And maybe Roger Waters will finally get round to the “Amused to Death” re-issue!
Thanks for sharing :)
