  1. The best track is Mothers Talk. It had those heavy, Trevor Horn-style Fairlight effects. I remember my first listen was just mesmerising. It’s hard to imagine now, but music was changing significantly at the time. It was so bloody exciting!

  2. Although not a favourite with the band itself and generally not an overwhelming fan favourite, the original version of ‘Mothers Talk’ would take the top spot if I had to choose.

“Put your head right next to my heart,
The beat of the drum is the fear of the dark”

    Just excellent!

  3. My favorite track: Everybody Wants To Rule The World! Great drive-time song, never fails to get me up and about, and also to sing along with TFF:-)

  4. Originally Shout, with the great Chris Hughes on drums (my favourite drummer), but will always love Head over Heels especially after seeing the video.

  5. I absolutely love this album , I purchased it on its original day of release and have enjoyed it ever since.
I would go for (The Preacher Mix) as my favourite recording.
Keep up the good work at ‘Super Deluxe Edition’.
    Have a super christmas….

  6. There are so many good tracks on this record that it’s hard to pick just one. So easy to pick Shout or Head Over Heels or one of the staple singles I love. At the end of the day, I really think my favourite track on this one is the one that I kept listening to over and over again that year — ‘The Working Hour’. Something about the musicality of it just spoke to me and the mournful sax solo at the end is beautiful. In fact, I think I will go listen to it now!

  7. love this album :D

Favourite track is probably “The Working Hour” – often turned up very loud on the iPod … I’ll never grow tired of this album.

I’ve still got my cassette of this album from 1985 – it squeaks a little, but still plays OK :D

  8. One of the first singles I ever bought was “Everybody Wants To Rule The World”. It has never dated for me and remains one of the big zeitgeist moments of the 80’s.

  9. this album was one of the very few LPs we had in the sixth-form common room and it was a constant background hum to my teenage moods –
‘shout shout let it all out’ – indeed. good times.

  10. Head Over Heels is the one for me. The lyrics are great and so emblematic of that time in my life. Those lyrics, plus that piano hook and the guitar that goes on top of it just makes it real winner to my ears. To me, this is what pop music should be.

  11. “Everybody Wantsd To Rule The World really takes me back to my high school and college days. I use to come home late at night and before I would go to bed I would turn on MTV. I would typically see this video everytime…. gives me that warm and fuzzy. Love these guys. It also takes me back to a time when Dennis Miller had a talk show on HBO. His opening theme song was “Everybody Wants To Rule The World.” Love, Love, Love this song… and entire album.

    Thanks guys!!!!

  12. What an incredible album from this era. My favorite track over the years would be ” Mother’s Talk” That track has grown on me over the years and the rhythmic energy of the track is really exciting.

  13. First there was Shout. Excellent. Then came Everybody Want to Rule the World. Even better. But when the album was out, my definitive favourite song became The Working Hour.

  14. ‘The Working Hour’, no doubt.
In fact, a have a little trauma with this track. My copy of the album was dramatically damaged (scratched by my little dog) very few days after the purchase.. Where? Casually at the beginning of ‘The Working Hour’. I was 16 at that time, and I had not enough money to spend in a 2nd copy of the same record (nor youtube, nor spotify….), so I had to wait many years to listen it properly.

  15. My favourite tracks from Songs From The Big Chair is ‘Listen’, a wonderful atmospheric instrumental that captures all that the 80’s were about.

  16. Shout is my go to track.
Cd very special as it was chosen at the time I bought a brand new hi-end stereo and this cd/song Shout sounded Amazing!
    Cheers!

  17. ‘Head Over Heels’ brings back so many teenage memories of high school and MTV. And if I won this contest, it’s exactly how I would feel!^_^v

  18. Everytime I hear the intro of everybody wants to rule the world I start feeling happy. Great memories of the ‘run’ version. This item is still missing in my collection. Can’t wait to complete my collection with this one!

  19. Has to be Shout for me. Memories of a whole pub in Nottingham singing along to it on New Year’s Eve before going into the Market Square for the 12:00 chimes.

  20. Everybody wants to rule the world. I first heard it in a book shop in Melbourne Australia. And that is also the day I meet my life partner.
It was our song. Sadly I lost my partner 6 years a go. But every time I hear it, it make me smile.

  21. I am STOKED for this release!

I have always been a HUGE fan of TFF and this album deserves the Super Deluxe treatment!

I have all the 12″‘s of the singles from this era, and it is great to have them in one place, digitally.

Easily my favorite song from this record is “The Working Hour” followed by “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” followed by “Broken”

The Working Hour has such awesome drums and an amazing sax solo(s) that just leaves my jaw dropping every time I hear it.

And I can not wait to hear this album remixed by Mr. Wilson (one of my heroes) in 5.1! I can only imagine, like his previous work, that it will blow my mind!

Maybe Santa will leave the box under my tree this year? One can hope….

  22. I would love to win this! I still haven’t had a chance to get the “Hurting” deluxe either and it’s one of my all time favorite albums. What is my favorite off “big chair”? I’d say “Listen” although “Working Hour” is probably the more logical choice. At the time of release, Ian Stanley’s production behind Lloyd Cole’s “Mainstream” and his contribution to TFF was what was in my head at time of original purchase, and “Listen” was just extraordinary listening for me at the time I first heard “big chair”.

  23. I think I would have to say that “Head Over Heels” is my favorite song from this album. “Everybody Want To Rule The World is a close second though.

  24. Difficult choice to choose between ‘Shout’ and ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’ from this classic album…

I think ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’ wins, very close to ‘Shout!

  25. I wish to have this nice box set. I´ve listened to Tears for Fears for years in here in Bogotá, Colombia.

My favorite track from this album is Broken. Really nice one.

  26. My fav songs is ‘Head over Heels’ – such a beautiful tune and a great sprawling vocal. Haven’t heard in ages and I had to put it on while I posted.
Overall – very fond memories for this album – at least on par with ‘The Hurting’.
Won’t say no to a copy of the deluxe version!

  27. Shout!
Back in the eighties, when I was young (old enough, though), as a German with lousy English, I always understood:
Shout, shout, clad it all out. Complete nonsense.

  28. My fave track changes all the time – it depends on whether it is day or night or I am tired or full of energy. So many great moments. Thanks for creating this great website Paul – I get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

  29. I’m going for SHOUT for the way it slams the album right in your face from the start. It’s sung with a passion that says “I mean it” and also confirms that Tears for Fear are a whole lot more than just an other early 80s synth pop band in much the same way Talk Talk would do shortly after.

  30. Fantastic album, all of it. Though my favorite track has to be “The Working Hour.”

I rarely post comments anymore, but I discovered this site by chance about a month ago and its become one of my daily visits. Thanks for all the great content.

  31. It’s the obvious choice but Shout is my favorite on the album. I know Roland and Curt don’t care for The Way You Are but I think it is underrated. The album as a whole flows well and deserves to be listened to in order, an underutilized way to enjoy an album nowadays.

  32. “Everybody wants to rule the world” was the soundtrack to my summer 1985, especially the extended mix. Today SFTBC seems to me a blueprint in perfect pop production.

  33. The Working Hour. Also – I pre-ordered the Steven Wilson mix on vinyl from the Universal site but just received the regular edition. Did anyone else have that happen? I’m really hoping they still have a copy to fill my original order.

  34. How can I choose a fave off such an amazing album? Well here goes, Everybody Want To Rule The World. I can remember buying the 10” single and playing it to death, but also it always reminds me of a hot summer!

  35. So many great tracks to choose from!! But for me it’s gotta be Shout.
Such a powerful song. Over the years, whenever life has got me down and has given me a hard time I find it such a cathartic singalong anthem……that instantly puts the world to rights!! Great track, great album… ;-)

  36. “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” is the song that I prefer, but in general I like vey much all the record (Songs from the Big Chair).

  37. It would have to be “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” for me. Amazing melody, and I never, ever, ever get tired of hearing it. While I consider 1983 to be the best ’80s year from a quality standpoint, I have deep affection for 1985 and this album is a shining example of that wonderful year. “The Working Hour” is my second favorite track.

  38. If we only knew at the time how fortunate we were to come of age in the early/mid-80’s. Let’s contemplate the music that came afterward: Hair metal, rap, grunge, more rap, and “alternative.”

  39. One of the best bands of the 1980’s period. They produced nothing but quality works; The Hurting, Songs from the Big Chair, The Seeds of Love.
This would be quite the bundle under the tree. Good luck to everyone.

  40. “everybody wants to rule the World”

radio stations in Denmark still plays it today

funny when “shout” was the biggest hit from the album

  41. Head Over Heals. My mate at work has recently come out as a TFF fan and he whistles this bloody tune all day, every day (slight exaggeration) Nice song spoiled by horrendous off key whistling….or maybe Curt missed the chance to make a left field whistling remix of this track?

  42. I believe has long been my favourite. A homage to Robert Wyatt. Luckily the tracks around it are of an equally high standard that stand the test of time.

  43. Everybody Wants to Rule the World has new meaning every time I hear it. Plays on radio right time. Played it just before I got my dream job. Best song. My all time favorite!!

  44. Favorite on the album is “The Working Hour,” followed closely by b-side “Pharaohs.”

I’ve already got the box but I’d love to win the vinyl and blu-ray and give the extra box as a Christmas present. :)

  45. The Working Hour is admittedly a classic, and hard to beat. but for my money it has to be Mothers Talk that is the best track on the album.

The queazy opening strings, the urgency, the in-your-face, pound you into the ground percussion. It echoed Frankie’s Two Tribes for me (as a young 11 year old) and reinforced that scary Cold War tension that seemed to be everywhere at the time.

Oh, and my sister was very proud of her Mothers Talk green vinyl 7″ with free window sticker. And yes, I totally stole it from her when she went off to university.

    Sorry, sis :(

  46. Everybody Rules the World–still sounds like brand new every time I hear it, like when I heard I Want To Hold Your Hand, its that type of song, what is unique is you then have Shout, Head Over Heels et al—its like a Beatles Album!

  47. Ooh, this I wanna win, I was priced out! The Working Hour is my favorite TFF song, sets a mood beautifully, I can’t help but stop whatever I’m doing and let it just envelop me. Being a huge prog geek having Mel Collins doesn’t hurt either!

  48. Everybody Wants to Rule The World…saw the band at the historic Oriental Theater here in Milwaukee when they toured for this album…Since then, the theater has been split into a triplex for movies only, so this show is definitely a fond memory…Also saw Paul Young and Howard Jones perform there in ’85 as well!

  49. My favorite track was always “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”. I just loved the video with the uber-cool dancers, and I loved the instrumental version on the B side of the 12″ record I still have someone buried deep in a closet. What a horn section!

  50. I have to admit that even though it was played like crazy on MTV and all over the radio, I simply still love “Head Over Heels”.

This set looks stellar and it would be a treat to won a copy.

  51. My favourite track is definitely Shout. It’s very different and quite out there compared to the other tracks on the album and their previous singles, and its also the first song of theirs that I ever heard. I love the ‘big’ sound that it has!

  52. For me, it’s the combination of Head Over Heels / Listen (Live). A fantastic 1-2 punch of tracks that just fit together so well. Reminds me (conceptually) of Hard to Say I’m Sorry/Getaway from Chicago.

  53. my favorite song has always been SHOUT, since the first listen. But recently I heard again the working hour and returned me to convey to those days of the 80’s. Both are great !!!!!

  54. I’d really like to get this as the 2014 mixes I ordered from the Universal were replaced by the original vinyl :-(

Head Over Heels is the one for me – not taking me back to the ’80’s but the great Donnie Darko. It’s a Mad World I suppose.

  55. For me it’s ‘Everybody wants to rule the world’. Loved the song when it was released and it has never worn out it’s welcome after all this time. Loved the video too.

  56. So can’t pick a fave as have too many, it’s a bit like picking a fave child (you can’t!!) but will go with Working Hour in order to enter comp!!

  57. Can’t decide between The Working Hour (Classic, evocative song with a brilliantly long intro that builds into a timeless pop tune) and Head Over Heels (bookended by Broken), as it was mine and my wife’s first dance song!

  58. One of THE great albums of the eighties, if not the last century. It’s certainly stood the test of time and will no doubt sound nothing short of epic on this new release. Naturally I’d love to find out for myself :-)

  59. I believe *wink* my favourite track off Songs from the Big Chair would be “The Working Hour”. From it’s profound lyrics to it’s sultry sax work, this track alone is the perfect soundtrack to the most perfect party which I have yet to have.

  60. Everyone Wants to Rule the World is one of the greatest singles of all time, it is is the song that comes to mind when one thinks of music from the mid-eighties, and it is the best song on Songs From the Big Chair.

  61. I Believe I have a chance to win this bundle ;) I love that song right from the first moment I heard it but it was one of those song that I keept for myself. When people were around it would mostly be Shout or Mothers Talk (Beat of the Drum) 12″ that was spinning.

  62. avid supporter of SDE on twitter,FB and web. subscribed to the newsletter already.

im an original 80’s teenager, and it really is true about music, quality will stand the test of time. tears for fears output is pure quality. i remember buying the clearwhite and brilliant white singles of the time. and listening to day the music and lyrics are still brilliant. always hard to pick one “fav”song from the set..has to be “everybody wants to rule the world” great anthem , great guitar breaks and structures. really builds throughout the song and holds you there.”nothing ever lasts forever”…well this song is certainly doing a good job of it!

  63. If I had to choose one favorite track from the album it would be “The Working Hour”. From the lush saxophone intro to the beat to the phrase “fear is such a vicious thing it wraps me up on chains” to the final saxophone note fading out – a pure masterpiece.

  64. My ultimate favorite is EWTRTW. I was in junior high in 1985 when TFF 2nd album Songs from the big chair hit our local airwaves here in Manila, Philippines. Instantly, Shout became a household favorite. Now, I’m in my 40s, my 4 kids listen to TFF. The whole family got the chance to see Roland and Curt performed live twice in 2010 and 2012 over an elated screaming fans of about 16,000 per night.

  65. I was in junior high in 1985 when TFF 2nd album Songs from the big chair hit our local airwaves here in Manila, Philippines. Instantly, Shout became a household favorite. My ultimate choice however is EWTRTW. Now, I’m in my 40s, my 4 kids listen to TFF. The whole family got the chance to see Roland and Curt performed live twice in 2010 and 2012 over an elated screaming fans of about 16,000 per night.

  66. I would love to win this deluxe bundle. My favorite track is “The Way You Are” – although not technically from the actual album, it’s such a standout song to me. I played it to death when i first became aware of it on Vinny Vero’s “Living In Oblivion” collections.

  67. I feel a bit like I’m cheating here, but Everybody Wants to Rule the World was a hit for a reason AND has the benefit of not seeing quite as much radio play as Shout, so it still sounds fresh even now. Great stuff all around though.

  68. The entire album and b-sides/remixes are iconic. Tracking down the variants is one of the things that hooked me on TFF. I have to say that ‘The Working Hour’ is the song that stands out the most for me.. The released singles were popular, but that track brings my right back to my youth, when I hear it.

The Preacher Mix of Broken/Head over Heels is also pretty high on my list.
The James Brown Car Alarm mix ( actually called Mother’s talk [Beat of the Drum] ) is one that stand out..not necessarily in a good way…

  69. Used to play SFTBC to death when it came out and my favourite has always been ‘I Believe’.

An absolutely hauntingly stunning way to start the second side of an LP. Any LP….

  70. “The Working Hour” is still my favorite- I remember buying the cassette of this after “Head Over Heels” was a single, and just getting my mind blown by how cool and complex this song was.

  71. Then, when first released it was ‘Head Over Heels’ and I sat at the piano (‘Curt Smith ‘Change’ hairdo intact!) and played the riff over and over again. Now? ‘I Believe’ – beautiful, soulful! Still at the piano but substantially less hair!

  72. I’ve always been partial to LISTEN. I have many great memories of listening to this album in the dark with headphones when it was released 30 years ago

  73. Head Over Heels, although it’s a close one. There are no duff tracks on the album. Broken starts to lead into it with the piano motif then the moment those big piano notes start up solo you know something big is coming, and the boys totally deliver on it. Absolutely great track that has not dated one bit. Would totally love to hear it in 5.1.

  74. It is such a difficult task picking a favourite, Shout just by a hair to Broken and Head Over Heels.
I can listen to Tears For Fears end to end for weeks and never get bored or want to skip a track.

  75. Wow…how do you possibly pick a favorite from an album full of great tunes??? I’ll go with Shout. It’s a song I will absolutely never tire of hearing.

  76. Everybody Want’s To Rule The World. If I win, you can give the 6 disc box to the next person, as I already have it. Brilliant album, brilliant reissue.

  77. Nice! If i had to pick one song it would be “Head Over Heals”. I was actually working in a record store when this album came out and that was always the song that stood out.

  78. “everybody wants to rule the world” is my all time Favorite. And my 4-year-old daughter likes the song “shout” every time I play this album.

  79. “Shout” and “The Working Hour” make a brilliantly moody open to the album. It’s quite jarring when Everybody Wants To Rule The World comes on. Brilliant album, nonetheless!

  80. Judging by the response here – and the fact that the 6-disc box-set is so hard to find this holiday season – I don’t think Universal Music realized how important this album is to people. Hearing the current version of the band play on SPOT Landmark a few days ago reminded me how powerful “The Working Hour” and “Head Over Heals” really are. Looking forward to a new album soon, not to mention the eventual (must!) reissue of The Seeds Of Love. someday…..bring it on!

  81. Head Over Heels – Just singing or speaking the lyrics of the refrain to your wife will make both of you , well, fall head over heels over each other forever!

  82. Just received my copy from the link SDE provided for the limited edition Stereo mix – alas Universal seems to have sold out and they sent me the regular version instead. Sigh. Still, ‘Listen’ is fantastic.

  83. Impossible to pick just one single track on a fabulous album, in which every track is a radio hit. However, SHOUT is my election. It was my introduction to TFF and I became an instant collector. I am so happy to see Roland and Curt together on stage and enjoying doing music under the same name. The gig they did lat Spotify for just 50 fans was lovely (I hope it is part of a future blu-ray).

  84. OMYGOSH! THIS IS FANTASTIC! HOPE I GET TO WIN THIS! MY FAVE MUSIC is TEARS FOR FEARS! ROLAND ORZABAL and CURT SMITH is the BEST! Hard to choose a favorite track! Every track is awesome and timeless! But if I had to pick one, it would be The Working Hour. Recently, Tears For Fears performed The Working Hour live (again after 20+ years) at the Wiltern Theater, LA as an encore. Sent shivers and goosebumps down my spine! I cried! 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvLSWVQMdqI So much emotion! 80′s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMOBfVmL_Lo 90′s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xikb85bkpkU. Amazing. Never gets old. Tears for Fears forever!

  85. sftbc is my all time Top 10 albums!
    my favourite tracks…
    1. Everybody Wants To Rule The World
    2. Head Over Heels/Broken (Live)
    3. Shout
    4. The Working Hour
    5. Broken
    6. Listen
    7. I Believe
    8. Mothers Talk

  86. This whole album holds great memories for me & always will. Love the way the box set was put together. It sets the bar for future releases. All others take note.

  87. My favourite isn’t actually on the original album but on the b-side of “I believe”: The wonderful cover version of Robert Wyatt’s “Sea Song”.

  88. So hard to pick one. Right now it’s probably “The Working Hour”, though I never get tired of this album and there’s not a bad song on it.

  89. It’s a tough call between Head over Heals and Everybody Wants to Rule the World. I’m going to go with Head over Heals on this one though.

Keep up the great work SD

  90. Hey Paul,
I’ve got to say The Working Hour is my fave track off the album, even though I hold a special place for Head Over Heels, especially as they filmed the video in Toronto (also the home of Duran Duran’s Reflex video). It was nice to see my previous home town used for videos by two of my favourite bands.

  91. Brilliant album. I wore the CrO2 off my cassette of this in the 80’s. Head Over Heels is my favorite track, but I also really love Shout, Mother’s Talk and of course Everybody Want’s To Rule The World.

  92. I must confess that I prefer The Hurting…but I’d still love to own this…!! Favourite track…Head Over Heels/Broken (Live)…love the way they merge.

  93. Hard to choose just one track – at the moment I would say ‘Mothers Talk’ is my favourite from this classic album. Would love to hear this on bluray.

  94. Shout is my favourite
Reminds me of being a kid as was one of the first 7″ singles I bought and I played it over and over again
    Still plays mint!

  95. ‘Mothers Talk’. Was favourite track when first bought the album in 1985 with my saved pocket money, and still my favourite track today. I think it’s the perfect meeting place for the electronics and full band direction that bridges ‘The Hurting’ and SFTBC. Cannot wait to hear what SW has done with this surround mix.

  96. My favourite song would be the suite Broken + Head Over Heels/Broken (live), because it’s impossible not to listen to both songs together. Love the production on this album: the drum sound, the bass, the keyboards, and how the vocals improved from The Hurting. This is a fundamental album, love it since I was a kid. Maybe one of the first performances of Will Gregory from Goldfrapp can be found here, playing sax in The Working Hour.

  97. What a tough question…like many others referenced above, it’s like picking your fav sibling. I’d have to say ‘Listen’ is my favourite track (with WH right behind it, like slammed up against it in a crowded lift kinda close). After such an explosive and unmatched set of genius tracks, that one brings me back to earth, slowly floating down to reality…and on some days just lifts me right to heaven, a calming musical glimpse of the real world. I was thrilled to hear Roland mention it in a recent interview. It’s certainly one to be cherished as is this entire album and its band members. Much admiration and appreciation for Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal.

  98. Gonna cheat a little bit and say the early version of Broken is my favourite track. If it has to be the original album then it’s The Working Hour.

  99. *dons flame retardant suit & awaits barrage of abuse from the fluffies*

Can’t wait for the 8 disc release with heavy vinyl add ons. FFS guys, I love you but you’re really ripping the arse out of this now. The definite SFTBC is the original; it’s getting fricking ridiculous now. Still, the public wants what the public gets……

  100. Well, my birthday IS the 11th! My favorite track is “Everybody…”, and what I like best about it, is the drums that just keep that beat going throughout the song punctuated by that cymbal. It wouldn’t be the same song without it.

  101. I remember when this first came out and Head Over Heels came through as a promtional 12 single for club play. Always loved the track when I DJ’d and still do

  102. A classic album full of great songs, but ‘Head Over Heels’ is one for me, a gorgeous single and it was used to great effect in the film Donnie Darko!

  103. “Everybody Wants…” is simply amazing. Reminds me of living on an Air Force base as a child and roaming through the desert (like in the video).

  104. I can’t honestly choose one favorite track, although I’ve found that SHOUT has been quite thearpeutic in dealing with my mothers cancer, and then with her estate, which has been a nightmare. Broken is how I’ve felt the past year, so it’s somewhere between those two.

  105. “The working hour”, an unforgettable song…and features the great line “we are paid by those who learn of our mistakes”. Cheers!

  106. My favorite track has always been “Head Over Hills,” but it’s sort of impossible to separate that from the whole movement on side 2, especially “Broken,” of course.

  107. Songs From The Big Chair is one of the best albums of the 80’s. And actually, I think it had stood the test of time. My favourite track is “Shout”, although I really dig “Everbody Wants To Rule The World” and “I Believe”. “The Working Hour” is good, but it sounds better to me live.

I already have the boxset, so If I win, you can draw one more winner for that one :-)

  108. The best track is “I believe”. I didn’t like it when it was released, but nowadays when I listen to the original vinyl, it simply just sounds amazing.

  109. The Working Hour. Where could you even find a similar track anywhere, by anyone? People who complain about saxophones in 80’s songs cannot have heard this song. It’s majestic!

  110. One of the best albums from the 80’s!!!
All tracks are fantastic, especially “The Working Hour”, maybe the best song they ever did!!
Love to hear this on 5.1 surround!!

  111. “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” – things have changed since I was young… :)) Though strangely “Sea Song” is favourite from the era.

  112. I knew this was coming, so i kept some space in my collection to add this wonderful price. Sorry for the rest as you wont win this. It will be my perfect christmas gift from superdeluxeedtion…

Haha, just kidding, everyone good luck in this wonderful prize draw by Paul Sinclair…

  113. I *cannot* choose a favourite! but if my life depended on it, I would choose Head Over Heels. Musically, it is brilliantly written! Loved the video too!

  114. I BELIEVE, I could SHOUT about my favorite tracks from this album as I was seriously HEAD OVER HEELS with it when it first came out. It used to infuriate my parents and you know how MOTHER’S TALK, LISTEN I’d say, this album makes EVERYBODY WANT TO RULE THE WORLD, it’s an escape from the WORKING HOUR before you’re BROKEN. Wow, it meant a lot to me as a 15 year old!!

  115. I was never particularly into “Head Over Heals” but after seeing it in “Donnie Darko” I completely fell in love with it! My favourite song from the Big Chair!

  116. TRULY a CLASSIC 80’s album!
HEAD OVER HEALS is the STAND-OUT track!
Like to see more TEARS 4 FEARS reissues like this..

SDE THANK YOU 4 ALL THE INFO ON GREAT RELEASES IN 2014!

  117. A truly great album and brings back a lot of fond memories for me.

There is no filler (all killer!) but my favourite would have to be Shout and all 6.32 of it :-)

  118. Mothers Talk is my favorite from the album–I remember hearing in 1985 a DJ use his finger to speed up that long “James Brown!” remix because he couldn’t stand it any more. I also really like Broken. For awhile, I found Everybody Wants to Rule the World very overplayed and thought I’d never need to hear it again, but I rather like it these days–especially the extended remixes.

  119. I was always a huge fan of the singles when they came out, but I never heard the entire album until about 1993, and I was immediately taken with “The Working Hour”. Still my favorite.

  120. “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” is one of the finest pop songs ever. I particularly like the faux trumpet added to the Urban and Running remixes.

  121. Paul, you and Universal did such a great job on this special edition of ‘SFTBC”. I cannot pick a favorite track as I enjoy the whole album, every track is special and could be a favorite.

  122. Right now, I’ll say Broken comes to mind. I love the dynamics especially on the recent Blu-ray.

I’ve listened to this album so many times over the past 30 years, I think of it as a whole, the individual tracks as a series of movements.

TFF (like the Beatles) represent quality over quantity.

  123. I love the way The Working Hour builds from quiet beginnings after the sledgehammer of Shout. The saxophone is recorded immaculately – you can hear the flap of the keys clearly!

  124. I have some memories on Head Over Heels. My parents had the album and this track reminds of a girl at school who i liked. And luckily for me she liked me as well. She was my first love. This is by far the best Tears For Fears boxset of all time. You’ve made an extroardinary contribution Paul. Well done!

  125. It has to be “Head Over Heals”, which I first heard and related to way back in 8th grade. It just really spoke to me. Songs From the Big Chair is an amazing album, but that song really takes me back.

  126. Remember on holiday summer 1985.Found a jukebox in pub.Played Shout constantly.Eventually owner plugged it out.Was only 13 so he thought something was wrong with me.But I love that song to this day.

  127. “The Working Hour” is the track that holds up for me. Many of the other tracks were so overrplayed in 1985 that I lost affection for them. Lol

  128. As a consumer electronics salesman in the 90s, one of the tracks I **always** used to demo equipment was the intro to “The Working Hour”.

I really loved the intimacy conveyed by the way the sax intro was recorded. You could even hear the keys tapping on the metal of the instrument, which to me helped people distinguish between an average stereo system and a great rig.

I can’t help but wonder how that part sounds on this remastered, reimagined set.

  129. The entire CD sounds amazing! Purchased the Blu ray version too and the disc was bank…have to return it. Did anyone else have this issue?

    1. Well, just replaced my defective Blu Ray disc and guess what, another blank disc. That’s two in a row. Anyone else out there finding the same problem?

  130. Everybody Wants To Rule The World is the musical gem that introduced me to T4F at the age of 15. I’m 44 now and this release has more than stood the test of time. Songs From The Big Chair has never left my musical selection and continues to be played to this day.

  131. Listen. It always brings back memories of the first time I heard it – playing the newly bought cassette on my Walkman, on the coach back from London. A perfect soundtrack to the night ride home.

  132. My fave track would be Everybody Wants To Rule The World, since when you hear the sound of the beginning of the track, you instantly know this is an awesome song, and a hit.

  133. Saw them open a record shop opposite Birmingham Odeon in Eighties and doing promo for the album.
    (Anyone recall this event?)

    EWTRTW unsurpassed.

  134. My favourite would be “Shout”. I love it’s harsh backbeat and chorus combined with the saccharine verse sung by Curt. Never off my playlist when I do an 80s pop dj set.

  135. The Working Hour: Roland said they wanted a warmer more natural sound compared with the Hurting and this is perhaps the best example on the album (maybe I Believe as well). The build and crescendo as well as the sax solo is magic and it breaks out of the solo with the simplest yet most beautiful sax notes in the last 30 seconds or so that still make my hair stand on end.

  136. The best track on this album is absolute with no doubt ‘Everybody wants to rule the world’. It has that great rhythm with sublime guitarriffs. It’s one of numbers that coloured my youth. Even now when i hear it, the volume knob goes up !

  137. Everybody Wants to Rule the World is one of the best 80’s singles. Tears for Fears is the penultimate duo. Along with Hall and Oates they are my favorites.

      1. ‘I believe’ I would be ‘head over heals’ to be in with a ‘shout’ for a chance to ‘listen’ to this during ‘the working hour’ in 5.1

    1. This album has a special place in my heart. It burst onto the musical scene the same month, June 1985, that I immigrated to Canada. And so the consecutive singles carried me on a journey of discovery, both musical and worldly. From exuberant EWTRTW(it never leaves me without a smile), through cathartic Shout, cerebral I Believe, to romantic Head Over Heels(it always reminds me that the video was shot here in Toronto). But the one tune that always comes to my mind whenever I think of Songs…,, for some unknowable reason is The Working Hour. Perhaps because of its gorgeous intro, its soaring vocals, or its hypnotic, elliptic guitars and drums. Stunning!

    2. Time has arrived, THE WORKING HOUR is now beyond me, and I am totally HEAD OVER HEELS when I place the CD in my CD-player and LISTEN to EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD.
During this listening experience I BELIEVE hearing in the background MOTHERS TALK and then a sudden SHOUT had BROKEN the wonderful state of mind in which I was in.
To relive this wonderful experience, I walk to my CD player so that I can listen once more to the SONGS FROM THE BIG CHAIR
