Paul – Do you know if the rest of Tina’s catalogue are going to be remastered and expanded – i love Private Dancer – but really want remastered versions of Break Every Rule and Foreign Affair…?

Ok honestly I don’t see why anyone here is at all surprised that these people that work directly on these major labels are not doing their jobs and acknowledging that prople want 7″ versions, 12″ versions, b-sides, and instrumentals. not live versions and crap like that. this has been going on for decades. Only these small reissue labels get it right for the most part. Major labels screw it up every time then they wonder why no one buys them.

Well this is my #1 album of all time and since I had the remixes on the last release and the Private Dancer EP CD there is nothing new here. Would have loved the US album art as the cover this time and the tracks from Summer Lovers would have been amazing (Johnny and Mary was on box set but I have yet to see the scorching Crazy in the Night anywhere other than vinyl). And I agree this was the perfect time to release Private Dancer Live on dvd FINALLY.

alas I will buy this along with all my other versions…

why is this missing ?

This is a serious letdown. It gives no inspiration to a fan to buy this release. A fan already has the 1997 reissue with the bonus tracks and the 3-disc box ‘The Collected Recordings’.
As a 30th anniversary edition, it is a laugh. For such a great performer, the omition of a dvd disc (with either single video clips or the Private Dancer tour VHS material) is inexcusable.

Remember. We are talking about Warners here,they are not the best when it comes to reissues now are they.

By the way, which version of “BOC” is featured on Tina’s 1994 box-set?

The CDJapan website has updated their listing with the original album cover and advice that the version of “Ball Of Confusion” included is indeed the remix.

Given the state of the market, I assume there wasn’t even a conversation with Warner about a DVD-Audio or SA-CD release of this. But what about an audio-only Blu-ray release of at least the original album (bonus track inclusion would be nice as well)? You mentioned to another commenter that it did not look like a high resolution release was in the offing. But I am specifically curious about whether “BD-A” was even discussed. The “older” skewing demos to which this kind of release arguably appeals the most overlaps with the folks who are still buying packaged media and who are interested in high resolution.

According to Amazon ‘Ball of Confusion’ is the 2011 master which is (fingers crossed) most likely the 3.50 version (ie the original, that appeared for the first time on CD as part of the BEF Music of Quality and Distinction boxset in 2011) and not the 4.10 remix from the 1991 CD of MoQ&D Vol 1.

I’m not sure why there’s such a stink about the non-inclusion of all the different versions of We Don’t Need Another Hero. The song (as brilliant as it is) has nothing to do with the Private Dancer album. It only appeared on the Mad Max 3 soundtrack but never a TT album (other than a greatest hits). I would expect that if they ever decided to re-release MM3 soundtrack then maybe all the versions of that song would be included. I guess I’m a bit of a purist and would prefer to see only tracks released from the album (including b-sides, remixes, etc.) on any bonus disc. It just doesn’t make sense otherwise.

Although personally, I don’t need a bunch of remixes of the same song, as I get bored hearing all the singles over an over …especially the 7″ radio edits…since the radio edits are usually shorter than the original (yes, I’m looking at you Belinda Carlisle)…I would have liked the videos and concert footage that corresponds to the album

Brian: The US and Europe had different tracklistings and (originally) different front pictures.

Some 7″ issues use an edit of the remix for “Show Some Respect” which I have that I meticuously remastered. I also have the edit of Help recorded from vinyl. Never heard the single mix of “I Can’t Stand the Rain”. Also missing in addition to these is “Total Control” I song, produced by Carter, during the Private Dancer sessions that was eventually given to the We Are the World compilation.

I’ve always mostly loved this album, but they’ve missed an opportunity to cut her hideous cover of Bowie’s 1984 which is a complete atrocity.

Correct me if I’m mistaken, but aren’t the 7″ edits of Let’s Stay Together, Better Be Good To Me and Private Dancer all present on the 1991 compilation cd, “Simply The Best”? I’ve never heard the 7″ version of Help so don’t know if it was altered, but I didn’t realise there were alternate single versions of What’s Love Got To Do With It, Show Some Respect and I Can’t Stand The Rain.

Since they went out on a limb to include a live version of her duet with Bowie from that era, they should have pursued the rights to her Live Aid performance with Mick Jagger. Would have made for a more interesting release.

@Simon Gallagher. It isn’t a case of not having time to spare. That’s a ridiculous comment. Some people are collectors who like to have all the different variations.

Don’t need the 7″ version of Private Dancer, the original album version is perfect as it stands and a classic. Will test any proper separates system near flawless production. If you don’t have the full 7 minutes to spare listen to something else.

The track listing is in a different order on mine. Weird.

They could have at least went with the 2CD/1DVD that other artists were having with their albums. I wouldn’t mind having music videos.

I think they should have a sticker on the front cover which says something along the lines of

‘ th Anniversary/Special/Commemorative/Ultimate/Collectors (complete & delete as purchaser sees fit) Edition’

as they seem to miss actually releasing a say 30th edition in the actual 30th year after release. They’ve only had 29 short years to prepare!! :-)

Why lament the instrumental of Ball Of Confusion? Without TT on it it’s just a BEF track!

It might be too late, but if there was one release I’d be willing to fight to get changed it would be this one. It was the first album I ever purchased so holds a dear place in my heart…

All they have done is moved the 7 bonus tracks from the 1997 reissue on a 2nd disc and added 8 tracks:

I was looking forward to this. However when you take away what was on the 1997 reissue and look again, it’s a pretty poor effort. It’s fine if you haven’t got this on CD already, but without the hit single versions it’s a real let down. So, it’s another one I’m going to pass on.

Having already missed the “30th Anniversary” year, Warner Music has also wasted an opportunity to release this simultaneously with the new Mad Max movie.

Given the basic album is already in wide circulation (having even been given away free with a newspaper) I’d have expected Warner to raise the profile of this deluxe release by putting a “Mad Max” sticker on the front.

Capitol-EMI was purchased by Warner. Also omitted is the “Nutbush City Limit” live b-side.

The original album went out to Capitol, then why the republication is made at Warner while Capitol is a label Universal!

This is my take on this . Generally Tina Turner fans would want bonus unreleased songs as opposed to edits and remixes. Sure the standard long versions are expected but overall they’d be satisfied with what they already have or are familiar with. Her goal was to appeal to a large global fanbase as opposed to a specialized market. On the other hand artists like Spandau or Duran appealed to a niche crowd and would have all the remixes and rare edits included because that’s what their fans expected.

I do wonder how much, if any involvement these artists have with such anniversary editions! You would think that it would be logical to put out thorough deluxe/anniversary editions whilst their original audience is still around to purchase them. Lets face it, the average present day music fan (ie One Direction…music?…thats not music, now when I were a lad….) fan isnt going to make a bee line to pick this up now, in ten years time or ever. So if your going to re-release, play to your markets strengths…but maybe ASK that market what it is they WOULD like in that deluxe/anniversary edition. Or am I missing something?!

Bad Deluxe Edition.
A 30th Anniversary Deluxe version should be perfect
and not 40 minutes space on disc one !
Enough space to put all the B-sides and all the 7” versions on Disc 1.
Also all the remixes / versions of “We Don’t Need Another Hero”
and “One Of The Living” are missing on Disc 2.
There are no studio demos in the vaults?
I would like hear a demo of “Private Dancer”…
This Deluxe Edition is not what I want to purchase
after all these years.

Very disappointing. There are some left over tracks that still have been unreleased from these sessions. No singles versions or remixes of One of the Living (including the unreleased first original version that can be heard in the opening if Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome). No single versions (although they have all been released on CD). If anything at least we are getting Keep Your Hands Off My Baby which has never been on CD.

Nice try, but no cigar for Warner. The 1997 release had a lot of extra tracks already. Warner could have put those tracks on disc 1, (it fits, obviously), and have more room on disc 2 for the (now) missing tracks.
Although I think that Thunderdome and One Of The Living are very nice additions, (I love those tracks), at least the superior unedited version of Thunderdome should be on there.
Paul, is it confirmed that it is the edited single version?
Nevertheless, fans can still pick up the Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome soundtrack for that version.
In all, such a iconic classic album warrants a superdeluxe, IMO, and I would gladly fork over my money for that. And let’s hope Break Every Rule gets a deluxe reissue as well, which I like even better.

Why bother releasing this “deluxe” with so many many important 7″ edits, mixes and instrumental missing? No music videos and live performances? What a 30th anniversary letdown!!! Must we really wait for the 35th anniversary deluxe?

No 12″ remix for Thunderdome and One Of The Living is unforgivable. And why on Earth aren’t the 7″ edits tagged on the end of CD1. After so many reissue disappointments, it just beggars belief.
