How to buy the new David Bowie 2015 remasters individually
When David Bowie‘s forthcoming Five Years box was announced Parlophone stated that the Re:Call 1 rarities compilation would be ‘exclusive to the boxed sets’. What that means of course, is that the six individual newly remastered studio albums will at some point be available separately.
A few of you have been in touch to say that these individual releases have appeared on the websites of a few Japanese online vendors, such as CD Japan, but if you know where to look you can also find some on Amazon UK.
There are ‘import’ versions of all six studio albums in the Five Years box: David Bowie/Space Oddity, The Man Who Sold The World, Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane and Pin-ups.
At the time of writing these are all priced at exactly £8.62 which just happens to be the precise Sterling equivalent of the 1600 yen being charged in Japan, suggesting that these are indeed the imports from the Far East. It should be noted that these are not going to boast the flashy mini-LP vinyl replica packaging you’ll get in the box sets, they are likely to be relatively ‘basic’ presentation-wise (jewel cases or card wallets) but of course you are definitely getting the very latest remasters including the highly anticipated Hunky Dory and The Man Who Sold The World.
You are effectively enjoying the ‘import’ version at face value with no additional costs for importing. This will be issued domestically eventually, although Parlophone are clearly going to wait, in order to sell as many box sets as possible.
These individual Bowie CDs are released on 25 September but will be despatched around 5 October 2015.

Paul can you shed any light on the prospect of the albums being sold separately on vinyl? I don’t expect Recall to be but I’m hoping the others will be. I plan on buying the CD version of the box and fill in the gaps with what I really want on vinyl, namely the remastered versions of some of the studio albums. I’ve pre-ordered the box but I’m a little anxious about not seeing or hearing anything about the vinyl available separately. I can’t see why it wouldn’t be I’m sure it would be a good money maker in todays in demand vinyl market!
I’ve bought Re:Call, Ziggy (Ken Scott mix) and MWSTW on vinyl from a certain Soho record store but they also have the rest for sale.
HMV Japan is also accepting pre-orders on European imports with European catalogue numbers.
Paul it would be very helpful to know if vinyl will be available separately. If you could find something out that would be great. I would then probably buy the CD box set and then get the newly remastered vinyl that I need (Space Oddity, Man Who, Hunky and Pin-Ups).
As I write, the price here in Japan has now changed to 1728 yen, which at today’s rate is 9.12 GBP. I don’t know if you over there can order from amazon.co.jp, but if you can it must be the better deal.
Warner Music’s European website list these individual releases as coming out on the same day as the box set – 25th September. I would post a link but previous posts where I’ve posted links have not been approved. Just search for warnermusic.ch and in the news section click on the upcoming album pop list where all of these are listed. The label is showing as PLG UK which I think stands for Parlophone Label Group UK.
The UK versions of these appear to be available individually now for £23.50 each!
these all say Japanese Import so I’m assuming the ones Paul has linked to are in fact the UK versions?
It’s all a bit vague at the moment. Amazon do say ‘import’ and the prices are identical to the Japanese versions. AND they don’t ship on the date of release, which suggests Amazon are waiting for Japanese stock. I’m not guaranteeing 100% but these do sound like they could be the Japanese versions.
I’d be careful with Amazon’s “autorip” concept when we’re dealing with reissues. I mean, if you’re buying the lastest remaster on a physical support, doesn’t necessarily mean the mp3 they upload are from the same source. This positively happened yo me at least once, bought a Macca Archive Series CD, the download was not the Archive Series remaster.
Happened to me as well. Another thing, if you download the autorip content then change your mind about the purchase, Amazon will deduct the cost of the MP3 from your refund.
That’s great for the cds but what about the lps ? Will those be available individually as well?
I will wait for the box set to drop in price. I have enough of these CDs already so really only interested at a good price. Also I am not convinced that there will not be one mega box including all of the mini boxes ala queen in the future.
Space Oddity has been remastered? Isn’t this new information? In the box announcement there were, if I recall correctly, only three remasters (Hunky Dory, Man Who Sold the World, and Pin Ups.)
No it’s not new. FOUR remasters were announced – the three you mention AND Space Oddity.
Another set of Bowie remasters, the only saving grace for these individual releases is the price in under £10 each. Does this mean the box set will come down in price?
..autorip as well.
Good as a back up order if the price of the box remains at the £100 mark
