Steve Hackett / Premonitions box

Above is the confirmed artwork for the forthcoming Steve Hackett box set Premonitions: The Charisma Recordings 1975-1983.

The cover is of course from the distinctive hand of artist Roger Dean and as previously reported this set will contain 14 discs (10 CDs and four DVDs) and features a total of 135 songs, 67 of them previously unreleased recordings.

It has also been announced that Please Dont Touch and Spectral Mornings, will also be re-released separately in a deluxe expanded version (with the 5.1 mixes by Steven Wilson) at some point in 2016.

Premonitions: The Charisma Recordings 1975-1983 will be released on 16 October 2015 by Universal Music Catalogue/Virgin.

  1. Paul, I am wondering the same thing as what Ryan was asking as it makes a huge difference to me as Dvd Audio I can play these things in the car as well as at home so thats a big selling point for me. If they are just Dvdv then its home only and might make me cancel my preorder although I do really want these at some point but they are selling the 5.1’s seperately early next year and might be the cheaper way to go as I am in for the 5.1’s on this one if only dvdv’s. I don’t doubt that the 5.1’s should still sound pretty good if only dvdv’s but being dvda’s are worth a premium price to me.

  2. Can anyone confirm at this point if the DVDs in this box set are DVD-Audio discs with lossless 5.1 surround sound or just DVD-Video discs with DTS and/or Dolby 5.1 surround audio?

    Thanks!

      1. FWIW, someone on the QuadraphonicQuad forum is reporting that Steve Hackett’s website are saying that the 5.1 audio is just DTS 96/24, and that these DVDs are not DVD-A/V discs like we thought. Shame if it’s true…

    1. That’s a good price, but I’m put off by a previous experience with Universal Music from when I bought the Black Sabbath ’13’ deluxe box.It just arrived in a box with no padding around it, and the box was squashed. They said they had no more in stock,so I was either stuck with that copy,or I could have a refund!

  3. Spin have the set listed at £89.99 but sometimes, they have trouble obtaining stock. A couple of times recently, I’ve cancelled orders because they still have no stock a couple of weeks after the release date. And, yes Runicen, I totally agree with you about the artwork. I love Roger Dean’s stuff but it just looks wrong on this package. It needs something a lot ‘moodier’.

  4. This is a late observation, but does anyone else find the Roger Dean artwork a bit… out place on this release? I know there are probably myriad reasons – personal and commercial – why Kim Poor’s artwork can’t be used here, but something less bright and cheerful would probably suit the music in this set better than what’s on offer.

Yes, it’s picking nits, but there was already such good artwork on these albums, it seems kind of silly to just put Roger Dean as the “NAME IN PROG ART” on this package.

  5. I snapped this up on Amazon when pre-order first came out at 88.99 less tax 78.99 plus shipping to Australia – happy with that!! Still wish there were 6CDs for the six albums but hey…..looks like a great package – with that, the 80CD Grateful Dead box and the Macca remasters coming later in the year – gonna be a busy listening time

    1. It IS available just not on Amazon UK for some reason… *something* going on with Universal pre-orders and Amazon at present.

      1. Paul, Could it be because Amazon UK couldn’t make a deal with Universal Music to stream Universal Music artists on the new Amazon Prime Music streaming service launched today?

  6. I’m still not super keen on the way they split the tracks between discs, BUT at least the packaging reveal gives some indication as to why the price point is set where it is. It’s a very handsome package, but I may reserve further judgment until some reviews surface post-release.
