Paul Butterfield / Complete Albums 1965-1980 / 14CD box set
Rhino will release a new box featuring the ‘Complete Albums’ of Chicago Blues legend Paul Butterfield at the beginning of next month.
The 14CD set contains 13 of his albums under various monikers including Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Paul Butterfield’s Better Days and under his own name as a solo artist.
These albums were largely released on Elektra, although the solo material and Better Days albums were issued on Bearsville Records. Expect this set to be presented in the usual clamshell box with CDs in card sleeves.

The “White Lake, N.Y. 1/18/69” listings are obviously a typo since The Paul Butterfield Blues Band preformed on August 18, 1969.
Wish Rhino would get this stuff correct.
Not remastered but it’s great for those of us missing some pieces of the puzzle, especially the Rhino Handmade 2 Cd set.
The “Live at White Lake” appears to be from the Woodstock Festival in 1969, and two of those cuts DEFINITELY have not been previously released.
Disc 7 (the second “live” disc) is NOT unissued, all the tracks were included on Rhino Handmade’s reissue, years ago.
This set is great news if it’s been newly remastered, which is the only info I really need to know (but I don’t dare hope as much).
Otherwise it’s totally pointless since everything has already made available on CD over the years
I’d also like to know if it’s been remastered, which I doubt. I already have everything several times, except perhaps for some of the Woodstock Concert stuff (which I find interesting that they call “White Lake” – they were obviously prohibited from using the “Woodstock Festival” name).
There’s an SACD of the first album, but I haven’t heard it and don’t know whether it sounds any better or not.
Wonderful. My Butterfield collection is a bit thin, but what I have is great. I will def pick this up.
I agree with you on the censorship issue Paul as lately the site has seemed to become prone to a lot of baiting between some people.
Even if there’s no major re-mastering, 14 CDs for £44.00, including unreleased stuff, is a great deal if like me, you like Butterfield!
I agree. It’s nice to finally get something new and previously unreleased in these Warner boxes (vs. some spme of the pther which remove bonus tracks)
Quite a set…like so many these days, not available on my beloved vinyl
I hate Blues and have never heard of him so not on my shopping list.
Then why bother commenting?
Always thought he had the worst LP covers back in the day and they still look pretty bad.
Hopefully these are remastered but I suspect it’ll be the usual hodge podge without a booklet from Rhino.
It is known as freedom of speech – we have it Britain.
Francis, freedom of speech is one thing, but if I send a letter to the NME saying someone is shit, or that I have no intention of buying something, do you think they will print it? Is it ‘censorship’ if they don’t print it? Of course not. Please bear this in mind, because the same thing applies here at SDE. So let’s be clear, anyone can post a comment, but I am the gatekeeper who decides whether the comment gets approved.
However, I am very fair. ALL comments will be approved, as long as people are not being offensive, attacking other people, saying something libellous, trying to wind people up or being antagonistic.
I hope you and everyone else agree that that is a reasonable approach, one that will hopefully keep the comments section informative, and a friendly forum where people will be encouraged to share information and their views.
I agree Wayne about these TROLLS who make comments on artists/genres of which they have no interest whatsoever, Idiots is probably a better term.
I have the original album series of the PBBB so I will wait until the price drops, as they all have done with these box sets.
I quite like the covers apart from the ‘ear’ album.
P?S. The mastering on the OAS box was very good.
Why even comment if you don’t care!
