Queen / A Night at the Odeon: Hammersmith 1975 super deluxe
This November, Virgin EMI will officially release the much-bootlegged concert film Queen A Night at the Odeon – Hammersmith 1975 across a wide number of audio and video formats including a limited super deluxe edition box set.
The Christmas concert (24th December) in the famous West London venue was the culmination of the 26-date ‘Queen invite you to A Night At The Opera’ UK tour of 1975.
The show was originally broadcast on BBC 2 and BBC Radio 1, although the TV crew clearly didn’t understand about encores, since they’d packed up their cameras before Queen played Seven Seas Of Rhye and See What A Fool I’ve Been – hence no film footage of those songs!
This will be issued on individual CD, DVD, blu-ray and gatefold 2LP editions as well as combo CD+Blu-ray and CD+DVD sets, although fans will be tempted by the super deluxe edition which comes in a lift-off lid box with the following content:
- • 1 CD of A Night at the Odeon – Hammersmith 1975
- • 1 SD blu-ray of A Night at the Odeon – Hammersmith 1975
- • 1 DVD of A Night at the Odeon – Hammersmith 1975
- • 12″ single of Bohemian Rhapsody with unreleased soundcheck of Now I’m Here
- • 60 page hardback book containing previously unseen photographs
- • Reproduction of ticket from the concert
- • Concert programme
- • Conference badge
- • Reproduction of the tour itinerary
- • Six button badges
- • Reproduction of the 1975 tour poster
- • Reproduction of the sticker stage pass
- • Reproduction of 2 balloons dropped into the crowd at the end of the 24th December 1975 Hammersmith show
A Night at the Odeon – Hammersmith 1975 is released on 20 November 2015.

Vinyl version is a damn good price on Amazon France today (5th July 2016) €14 plus shipping
This track list is the same as the rainbow it’s the same I say, even Hyde park seems the same? With 1-2 tracks that may be added? I hope they won’t do another magic tour 86 on us?!? Please don’t screw us for another 20 years just by adding another 2-3 tracks and making it a Hyde park/earls court Boxset I hope not?!? Queen did so many tracks live and many of there own!!! Please add them in there this odeon boxset I have to say is dull and way too much for £110- please pull you’re act together and make it a Worthwhile Expericence for us Fans who have been loyal for that ultimate Boxset!!! P.s Were not Loaded you know!!!
I’m buying the SD from Amazon France but as others have noted, it’s a missed opportunity to exclude ‘Hangman’ from one of the Budokan shows(assuming that QPL have it which we’re all sure they do). That would have been most welcome, even as an unique alternative to the ‘Now I’m Here’ sound-check on the B-Side of the Bohemian Rhapsody 12″. Maybe they’re holding it back for the live anthology that was touted 300 years ago. Sarcasm aside, I’m happy that they are polishing the archives and putting out these sets. Rainbow 74 was fabulous.
No encore filmed? Mmmh… BBC guys (See What The Fool They Were)…
The Amazon UK link for the super deluxe edition is to an import version which is why it is so expensive.
There is another listing on Amazon UK which is showing as currently unavailable so expect it to be cheaper.
The super deluxe edition is also listed on Amazon France at €110
£84.99.
Are Amazon getting in a muddle with the Japanese SHM super deluxe box?
i’ve preordered it at £153 , but if the price dont come down a bit more im hitting the cancel button
For £287 i’d want three balloons
It’s £153 now.
Now up for pre order on Amazon UK at £287!!! Haha, who on earth is doing their pricing at the moment?
Is there actually going to be a CD+Blu-Ray (or DVD) combo released?
The big box is a huge rip-off, all those trinkets, balloons. What a joke. Costs twice as much as the Rainbow set which had 2 full concerts.
Yes there will be a CD+Blu-ray and a CD+DVD, it’s just that no one seems to have them listed for sale yet!
I think the Queen web site does.
Ah, a treat! The picture quality of the BluRay they brought out last year (Rainbow ’74) was just about as good as it’s possible for SD PAL video to look, so I expect this will be up to the similiar top-notch standards. Yay!
BBC went home early? Tossers. Well done lads!
The extras are incredibly disappointing. Those Budokan shows, yeah, they played Hangman both nights. We don’t get that as an extra? Last year’s Rainbow box included 2 complete shows along with the video and trinkets for half the price of this far skimpier one.
Oh well. Next year we’ll finally get Hyde Park, here’s to hoping they do better with the extras.
The least said about the cover the best, didn’t realize Queen was just the name of Freddie’s backing band…
I must admit I am warming to the cover, but it still screams ‘original artist re-recording’
Seriously though, I am looking forward to this. I enjoy early live Queen – the 80’s live I can take or leave. I actually find Freddie’s “dee-do-dee-do”ing with the crowd for five minutes (or more) quite irritating. Other people seem to absolutely love it, but it gets on my nerves.
Yeah I think the cover is pretty lame too but obviously Brian and Roger don’t. Nothing gets a release without their approval.
Brilliant news.About time this came out.Had been checking queenonline as I had a feeling this would come out as Rainbow 74 was released last year on its fortieth anniversary. Was thinking it wasnt going to happen as it was coming into October but what a surprise.
The version of white queen on this is absolutely amazing and Queen fans should check it out on youtube. The whole performance is brilliant.
Only annoying thing is the not having seven seas and what a fool on dvd as they werent recorded on film but surely Queen could have included them on dvd with a photo montage or something as Queen fans wont mind as they have been after a release of this show for years.I dont quite remember watching the broadcast as I was only two at the time !!!
Really really cannot wait to get this.
Hopefully Queen will empty the archives with dvd/cd packages of Hyde Park 76,Houston and Earls Court 77,Hammersmith and Paris 79 and their amazing South American concerts from the early eighties. No reason not to as all that footage is on youtube.
There’s really no point in my chiming in to say the cover art is bad – others have done it before me. I truly can’t imagine what goes on behind closed doors when the mock-ups are done and reviewed. It boggle the mind that anyone thought this was acceptable. If you’re going to charge top dollar for something, how about at least making it LOOK expensive? This cover art has budget written all over it.
Anyway – nice set list, and always great to see early Queen getting released. But sheesh……
Dr. Magus
Thanks for the belly laugh. Great stuff. I must pile on with the rest. That cover us truly horrific. Something a 12 year old would create.
That aside, very excited for this release….
That cover is horrific!
Almost reminds me of a bootleg…
Queen is killing my pocketbook but it is all such great quality stuff. I received the complete album vinyl boxset and it is amazing. Plus, thanks to SDE I scored a great prize from Amazon Italy which saved me more that $200 CDN. It arrived in Canada in less than a week, no customs, and in perfect condition. Hopefully, there will be some deals for this set as well.
Terrible artwork. The mind boggles that such design horrors can be approved. Even worse is the thought that someone is getting paid for doing it! It genuinely puts me off buying.
I recall a rather naughty ‘balloon’ was crowd-surfed on the night.Missus.
;-)
You see this, Mr Fripp? This is what a ‘super deluxe boxset’ SHOULD look like! Never mind your 20+ disc jobbies full of rare and previously unreleased live and studio material. It’s all about the BALLOONS and we Queen fans are being spoilt with TWO!
I bet Crimson fans are seething!
The inclusion of the Bo Rhap 12″ in the Super Deluxe version of the release makes me wonder if the rumoured release of the 12″ on its own for Black Friday has no basis in fact.
And indeed what a very ugly cover.
who cares about the cover….its the amazing music package that counts !
Only Amazon.ca is working about 205 for the box,
Now at $200.66 !!!
Amazon UK i meant the deluxe box on Amazon Us is $149.98
Are these preorder links working for anyone? Not for me :( how much is Amazon charging?
Amazon aren’t charging anything as it’s Currently unavailable and listed as an import. Be prepared for a silly pricing though when they decide to get around to it.
Death On Two Expensive Box Sets (Dedicated to….)
Hey Queen…
You’ve taken aaaaall my moneeeeey… and you want more!
And I will buy it. Not even finished listening to the Studio Collection (sobs)… I live in Brazil, do you even know how much any foreing currency is costing here now? And this bloody incompetent brazilian phonographic industry that never makes anything that’s really interesting with the imported products’ standards of quality! Being born in the wrong place really sucks!
I remember seeing the original broadcast of this concert, the year Queen went mega. Without being able to record it of course, that was it, unless they broadcast it some other time and you happen to see it featured in the Radio Times. We were allowed to stay up especially late to see it.
Elton John’s Xmas concert was I think on 24/12 the year before, but I may be mistaken and been sent to bed early and dream of Santa’s visit as I was only 12 that year!
Hammersmith 75 wasn’t a good performance, half the band were full of flu and it’s barely an hour long. Best thing about getting this release out of the way is it paves the way for the good stuff from next year.
Oh man. Those people over at Queen productions are bleeding me dry. For 2015 i already bought the Forever vinyl boxset and last week the Studio Collection. I was hoping that would be it for this year so i could save up some money for another release next year but this comes too fast after buying the Studio Collection.
What an expensive year to be a Queen fan! there’s no way I’m not buying this though.
Surely this means Hyde Park ’76 can’t be far away?
Oh, and the cover design is really baaaaad!
“Cool is the rule, but sometimes…”
I’m buying this just for the balloons! But seriously…this looks awesome.
Is the 2LP not included in the SDE box or did I miss something?
No, just 12″ single
Strange that this show is from the tour to promote A Night at the Opera but they played so little from it. Not complaining though. Very happy to have any archival Queen video.
Now I just need the Blu-ray of another concert filmed in the same venue (I’m looking at you, Kate Bush!)
Balloons! In yer face, Pink Floyd.
I’ve been waiting for this for so long that I’m not over excited. Still nice to have another 70s concert. And I’m really pissed there isn’t a NATO 40th anniversary super deluxe edition!!
