Grateful Dead / Dick’s Picks, Vol 2: Columbus Ohio 10/31/71
The only one-CD edition of ‘Dick’s Picks’ this features the Grateful Dead‘s legendary Halloween performance with the highlight being an incredible version of Dark Star.
Ride / Nowhere (vinyl)
British indie band Ride‘s 1990 album Nowhere was reissued on double vinyl with bonus tracks late last year, but this week a straightforward one-disc vinyl edition is put out.
Them / The Angry Young Men (vinyl LP)
Them launched Van Morrison‘s career. In December 2015 we saw the release of The Complete Them 3CD set and this week Sony issue their 1965 debut album on vinyl LP, the puntastic The Angry Young Them. The only other Them album featuring Morrison, Them Again, is also reissued on LP.
JD Souther / Home By Dawn (expanded CD)
JD Souther‘s 1984 album Home By Dawn is reissued by Omnivore with four bonus tracks.
The Many Faces of David Bowie (3CD)
Another David Bowie tribute, The Many Faces of David Bowie includes covers from former bandmates (Tony Visconti, Reeves Gabrels etc.).

Quite the off-beat collection of new releases this week. Maybe just me, but vinyl reissues are getting downright ho-hum.
cash in? on the release of Blackstar definitely but cashing in on his death? however cynical the release not sure it could be put together and released so quickly. won’t be buying it anyway.
I suppose the only defense I can muster on that Bowie “tribute” is that at least it’s cheap and there is some tangential relation to the artist and the range of his material. Sadly, it almost looks like a missed opportunity to show the range of his influences and influence.
Maybe at some point someone will do this up properly.
I’m quite looking forward to the new Kula Shaker album that’s out on Friday called K 2.0! From what I’ve heard so far, it’s not bad!

I don’t see the word ‘Tribute’ used anywhere on the Bowie release. More of tracks that influenced mixed with tracks he worked on. That said “deeply cynical exploitation of a legend’s death” is bang on the money…
Completely agree with you Runicen. Same thing applies for the Jacques Brel song “my death” it was written by him and he died a long time before david bowie died so i dont see this much as a tribute.. I’m a huge fan of Bowie but this is a shame
I know my cynic is showing, but there’s something deeply amusing about a Bowie tribute CD that includes Velvet Underground songs in their original guise.
I believe the tribute in that case, was intended to run the other way…
Why do they do this ? What’s the point?
It appears the Costello USA pre-order is Region 2. I hope there is a Region free or Region 1 release soon.
The link is for the Region 2 import, but if you look it up directly on Amazon USA, there is a domestic release as well. And at a better price!
