Introducing… the SDE Alert widget

New to SDE is a dynamic sidebar ‘widget’ that will be used to highlight great deals, keep track of prices of popular products or simply highlight releases that are being most discussed amongst the SDE community.

It occurred to me a few weeks ago when the Pink Floyd Early Years 1965-1972 box set was going up and down in price like a rollercoaster (it still is!), that it would be cool to develop something that was like a ‘price tracker’ and could sit on the homepage to keep you informed. So that’s what we’ve done.

The widget will always display ‘live’ pricing, but as stated in the intro, it’s not just about deals (standard deal alerts will continue, as normal) – the new sidebar widget will be updated regularly to alert you about hot new products and stuff we love, so do keep an eye out (top, left) for what’s on display!

For simplicity, for the time being, all prices will be displayed in pounds, but when you link through (to Amazon, JPC or HMV) prices may be in either pounds, Euros, US dollars or Canadian dollars depending on where the store is. I’d welcome any feedback for future improvements. Thanks.

  1. I’m finally seeing the widget now that I have a new phone, but only if I remember to scroll down to the bottom of the page. It would be more prominent (and useful) if it was placed at the top, perhaps?

  2. Thanks Paul. If there aren’t plans for it, perhaps a ‘my desired price’ flag could be included, for those who can only spend up to a maximum of £xx.

  3. Great to keep up to date with the current deal price of £226, as I got it for £142 delivered to Spain on a Lightning deal. Yippee

Got The Last Waltz at the offer price too. Only trouble is I do not have an bottomless pit of money!
