  2. Actually, I weighed the old Heroes (200g) and the new one (188g). All the ANCIANT were uniformly heavy, although I have not weighed others. It’s nice to know that the US pressing was 200g, even if it was defective. I will weigh all the others now to see. 1/2 oz is not too much loss – at least it wasn’t like the early 70’s 110 gram Dynaflex. I should count my blessings that they didn’t go full retro accuracy.

    1. Allow me to correct myself. I weighed it with the lp sleeve on previously. My mistake, the lp sleeves are about 14 grams themselves.

      Heroes replacement pressing 176g
      Heroes ANCIANT first issue pressing 186g
      So, nonetheless, the replacement lp’s are much lighter and not quite 180 g.

      In light of my previous comments, I pulled out an old After Bathing At Baxter’s by Jefferson Airplane on RCA dynaflex and that weighed in at 104 grams.

  5. I received my David Bowie Heroes replacement today. Has anyone else noticed that it is significantly lighter than the original? Mine was 188g as opposed to the 200g original. I am disappointed with this. I’ll give it a listen this weekend to see if its audio is defective.

      2. If Anciant had been 200g by design they would have been shouting it from the rooftops like the excellent US “Classic records” series on 200g (Tubular Bells – PG I-IV, So and Shaking the Tree etc.). If it is 200g then I would think it was by accident.
        They screwed up Return to Ommadawn, so it can happen, a 180g release that came out somewhere around 135g. I got sent the 180g re-press a month or so later. These ancient cloth-ears can’t tell much difference on a Rega RP-10. But that is another discussion altogether

    2. Perhaps it was because there was a loss of sonic weight on the track heroes in the first pressing – and they added +- 6g of weight to the first release.
      PS. The audio IS “defective”, but that has nothing to do with the weight of the vinyl.

  7. I already have the 2-SACD of “Tommy”, which includes the demos on disc 2. Apart from the live disc (which I can easily download from one of the bit-torrent sites) the only thing of interest for me is the book. As I’m not a Prime member anyways, I’m going to pass.

      The demos here not included on the SACD are Overture, 1921, Dream One, Sparks, The Hawker, Acid Queen, Underture, There’s a Doctor, Go To The Mirror, Smash The Mirror, Sensation, Miracle Cure, Sally Simpson, I’m Free, Welcome and We’re Not Going to Take It.
      Sally Simpson, Welcome, We’re Not Going to Take It were available as out-takes on the SACD.
      It’s the whole album by Townsend in demo form.

  9. I agree, Paul, that endless emails are not the way forward. I like the current volume of notifications that you share; it’s not intrusive and it meets the balance well.

    I do a couple of site visits a day and that ensures that I can see the latest information when I wish to.

    Thanks again for the great information you share with us on SDE. It can be a thankless task, on occasions, but it’s certainly not taken for granted from my perspective.

  10. The Metallica Boxes are a steal at that price, I have them already but well worth getting them if you don’t. On another subject has anyone had issues on the Roxy Boxset from Amazon US when it was silly money, Amazon/Carrier has lost my order, not impressed!

    the uk price is 71,52£, thats three times more.

    1. I’m still waiting for this to drop as well. Got the vinyl version for a good price thanks to a deal alert but will have to get this at some point.

      Decisions decisions,

      1. Don’t pay for coffee, booze, cigarettes, or lunch out for 2 weeks. You’ll save the difference and get one of the best box sets I’ve heard in a long, long time.

        1. You are of course right Andy and we all end up rationalising in just such a way. I have all the other Dylan bootleg SDEs (excellent) so will get this.

          Then there is the Who, Love, Stones Mono, Beatles Mono

          no coffees etc for the foreseeable future.

    I love your website and the e-mails with dealalerts.
    But the e-mails are usualy promoting just one specific product – even if there is sometimes a whole bunch of deals on the website. Could you do something about that, so I don’t miss good deals, just because the one mentioned in the e-mail isn’t relevant to me?

    1. Thanks David… that is kind of the aim of the “This Week’s Box Set and Reissue Deals” post. It brings various deals together. I’m conscious that people don’t want emails every five minutes, but if you click on the link on the email you may well see other deals. It’s tricky… I could put more than one deal per email, but prices change quite quickly sometimes and people can think these things are misleading if they get to the page and the deal isn’t available. I’m constantly trying to think of ways to refine this :)

  19. Got my roxy booklet today.nice book until I got it stuck trying to jam it in my box set.there is no way it fits in .nevermind I nearly bent my box set and threw the damaged booklet away.very disappointed

    1. The box is obviously not designed to expect other booklets… but they should squeeze in if you’re careful (mine did). One tip is to put the SDE booklet into the middle of the hardcover book, then close it and it should slot back into the outer slipcase fine. Or you can simply store next to the box. Do you want me to send you another booklet?

Anyway… I’m really sorry that you spoiled your booklet and I WILL send you another one for free if you wish, because I want to look after people that shop at ShopSuperDeluxe.com. I wasn’t going to complain on here because it’s from your store on the sight.then I thought everyone complains on here about delivery problems or damaged items so it’s only honest to put it on here and not make it private this is a great open to opinion sight and I didn’t think to hide my problem

        1. I understand… but I would have sorted you out, so no real need to ‘escalate’ things in a public forum unless you feel like you got poor service. Also, note that I still published your comment and didn’t ‘hide’ it, so it’s totally transparent.

          1. Paul perhaps for the next SDE booklet you could attach a cover sheet explaining
            how an A4 Booklet inserts into an a2 book without ripping. It would seem to be invaluable ? Of course you would need a cover for the cover booklet to prevent it getting ripped…… mmh

  20. U2 purchased, cheers Paul! Air deluxe box set arrived from France(?), was concerned about the packaging from one or two previous comments, but all in all, apart from the spine, which was a wee bit damaged, because of the thin material used to house the contents, the rest of the package was sealed with no splits or dinks etc, so I’m not too disappointed. Looking forward to listening to the set. But, yes, be careful about this particular box set, they could’ve, and should’ve used a sturdier and thicker card stock for it.

    1. I’m really enjoying it John its a nice mix and sounds like a decent pressing to me…I love the way Alone in Kyoto is on the vinyl…. I gave my moon safari LP to a friend but have also ordered the translucent version thanks for the heads up on both offers Paul!

    2. My Air boxset arrived badly damaged from Amazon France so I’ve requested a replacement. They’d put it in the type of cardboard that would be used for a standard double LP… Shocking

      1. The packaging for the Air set is a nightmare, it should have been housed in a hard lift box. Sure it would have cost more, but if you breathe wrong on this set it will get a dent.

  24. Looks like Amazon UK still has the Black Sabbath Ten Year War Box Set at 159.90 GBP. This is a great deal for those of us in the US. I ordered it last month and the final cost after removal of the VAT came out to about $197 US. It shows 2-4 weeks to ship, but might be well worth the wait.
