Watch Eurythmics live on stage in NYC
Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox were back together on stage this week as Eurythmics played a three-song set at the Rainforest Fund benefit at New York’s Beacon Theater on Monday evening.
There was no messing around as they performed their three biggest hits in America, namely ‘Would I Lie To You?’ (#5) , an acoustic ‘Here Comes The Rain Again’ (#4) and a triumphant ‘Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)’ (#1).
The pair hadn’t played any Eurythmics songs live on stage together for almost 15 years, so this was something quite special.
After some excellent Eurythmics vinyl reissues from Sony in 2018, disappointingly, it all went very quiet this year with nothing being reissued at all from the archive. It was the 35th anniversary of UMC-controlled 1984 (For The Love Of Big Brother) ‘music-derived-from’ soundtrack, for example. Let’s hope plans are afoot for 2020.
There are an ever diminishing number of bands who are considered either big enough or legendary enough to headline a major festival…surely Eurythmics fall into both these categories.
Hello Emily Eavis!
Shes a famous vegatarian might not be comfortable playing on a farm, then again show theas people enough wedge,,,, here comes the rain again as it pisses down at Glastonbury might be something, they could be the new Travis.
“Shes a famous vegatarian might not be comfortable playing on a farm”, something that’s not discouraged Paul McCartney from playing Glastonbury – arguably the most famous vegetarian of them all!
Much though I would love to see the ‘mics live again, I think Ringo is long overdue a call from the Eavis residence.
I would love to see Savage get the SDE treatment.
Annie was interviewed by Janice Forsythe BBC Scotland afternoon show about six months ago,and she said that she would never be able to tour again, she has health issues and after a couple of shows needs a long time to recover, don’t think she revealed her problem,im sure the interview will still be available on Janice’s BBC Scotland website.
She has chronic nerve damage from back surgery a decade ago. Flared up again in 2018, thought she wasn’t going to be able to walk again. I’d love to see them tour — one of the acts that I wish I’d seen, especially back in the day. But I’d rather have her not tour then medicate herself to get through it and risk tragic consequences. And, she was hot then and she’s hot now — and beautiful inside, where it counts.

I would love to see deluxe CD editions of their back catalogue in 2020. Perhaps with a bonus instrumental disc & signed print! I noticed this trend with the band (The Heavy) doing this with 3 Albums & apparently there is a promotional Supergrass Road To Rouen with instrumentals. I look forward to a Mogwai album with a bonus CD with vocals :)
Wasn’t 1984 LP and RSD release Paul?
Yes, red vinyl for RSD but it was never given a full black vinyl release afterwards, which is what you would have expected. So it’s basically out of print AGAIN after that RSD release.
To be able to see Annie and Dave play live is bucket list stuff for me.
I went to see Dave at the Southbank’s Meltdown Festival a few months back with a range of guests playing ‘The Eurythmics Songbook’. It was a really good evening (guest singers Rahh & Beverley Knight being particular highlights) but I was secretly hoping that Annie would a *very* special guest at the end.
Dave spoke very fondly about Annie during that show and this appearance shows that, at the very least, they’re not entirely closed off to doing things together.
Great! World tour please!
What a joy to see Eurythmics perform again!
They’re music is timeless and I really hope they
do something else together after this.
I believe that they both live in LA, so I can dream, can’t I?
With Dave Stewart doing a Bowie Bonds finance deal earlier this year I would imagine that the back catalogue will be reactivated in 2020 so investors see returns. Probably all part of the small print and took most of 2019 to set up
It requires Annie’s approval which appears to be the sticking point. She’s really not interested (and doesn’t need the money).
I didn’t know about this until you posted Paul. Thank you. Great video even if it is from the audience.
Lovely to see.
I wouldn’t call ‘Here Comes the Rain again’ acoustic though – it’s the full-band, with Dave swapping to electric for the solo.
Jaw on floor. Even though the audio wasn’t great, the electricity came through. Damn. This was simply joyous.
Wow, excellent. Annie still hits the high notes. What a class act they are. Their catalogue MUST be reissued with bonus remixes, b sides, live material, alternate mixes, take outs, etc. Done well, it would be the reissue sensation of the year. Everyone wants it but the label is asleep at the wheel. Unbelievable.
Expanded reissues are unlikely. Annie doesn’t like bonus tracks, and Dave sold off all his future artist and song publishing royalties, leaving him no reason to cooperate. The 8 UK expanded CD reissues (released a number of years back) will have to suffice. As for the remainder of the non-L.P. tracks and mixes, I transfered my original vinyl to CD-R many years ago.
Annie doesn’t like to tour except for the one off benefit show or so. I think if they were to put out more reissues and even a new song or two would be sufficient.
This is excellent. I wish I could see them live!!
Annie & Dave are timeless. That three song set was awesome tasting! One can only hope it lights a flame of possibilities for anything in the future from them both.
Still great after all this time. I was lucky to see them twice live during the 1986 Revenge Tour (once in the USA, once in Italy). Unforgettable. Good thing today Annie changed her jacket after the first song; the gold jacket was too small. Many years hav gone by and there are no more red bras to show off… but their magnetism is intact. Long live Eurythmics.
I’m fingers crossed to have Eurythmics to release deluxe edition of each album next year. It doesn’t need to be a big box but a edition which includes all the material left behing in the first remaster CDs.
Thank you Paul for sharing. Great to see Dave and Annie on stage together again. Annie in particular seemed to be really enjoying it.
Also they played their hits which is what’s wanted at this type of charity or one-off specials. Too many artists get pretentious and insist on playing obscure back catalogue or new tracks which the majority of the audience won’t know or be interested in. It’s not a concert for their hardcore fan base.
Thanks for posting. They still got it.
Whats going to happen when even the most talented 80’s stars can’t /wont
tour ? these are about the last generation that can put on a live non autotuned show.
His mate mike Campbell would have given him that guitar
Being incredibly old, I saw Dave and Annie perform as The Tourists one lunch time in the Old Theatre at the LSE. The crowd was a gigantic 5 of us
Thanks for sharing this Paul
Dearest Dave and Annie,
It’s time to get your arses back in to gear, stop pissing about, align your schedules and create another studio album to follow up 1998’s “Peace”, (leave the salvation of the Planet to Greta Thunberg) and get back to the day job!
Or maybe Annie and Greta could do a duet, planet saved in no time
Holy crow – that was amazing!!!
Fantastic!! Have missed them so much!
Still fantastic music from a fantastic band. This kind of music will stand forever !
Thanks for posting
Even better – reunion tour and new album as well as the re-issues……we can dream!
Wow!!!! So good….thanks for posting!!!
