  1. More ludicrous and random price drops on Amazon UK (not sure what’s going on on there today)

Roxy Music – Roxy Music deluxe 2CD edition is £3.16

Maximo Park’s latest album is £3.28

Led Zeppelin IV 2CD edition is £6.66

Kelly Jones – Don’t Let The Devil Take You Down is £5.50

  2. Some remarkably cheap stuff on Amazon at the moment, such as Steve Miller Band’s Live ’77 for £4.34, Lucinda Williams’s Petty tribute cd for £5.28, Paul Stanley’s Soul Station for £5.08, Marillion – Thieving Magpie 2cd for £3.63, Gruff Rhys – Pang! for £4.67…

  3. The Rush box set The Studio Albums 1989-2007, that someone mentioned in the comments already as being a bargain on Amazon US, is even better value on Amazon UK this morning. As I write it’s £12.61, lowest price it’s been, I think.

  4. Lots of deals appeared on Amazon UK this morning – as I type…

Rolling Stones – Goats Head Soup 2CD edition is £9.55
    Springsteen – Ties That Bind 4CD / 2BR is £47
Bob Marley – Complete Island CD Box Set is £22
Paul McCartney – III is £3.62 on CD
Springsteen – Letter To You CD is £6.45

(My Prince Sign O The Times 8CD box set that I picked up when it was very briefly £98 the other day turned up this morning and it’s stunning)

  5. Followed Paul on Twitter for ages and purchased lots as a result, but only recently activated an account here, mainly because of the McCartney deal for Flaming Pie. Been trying to get this from Discogs for awhile but the costs were prohibitive – this 3-LP set looks good value (it was £40 when I clicked the link but let’s not worry about the £1). Top work, thanks Paul.

  6. A couple sales items on the various worldwide Amazons. You pick and choose what makes sense to you:

-If you like lounge & deep house music, this 6 disc chill out compilation is an excellent buy for only €5!! Music from Everything But The Girl, Mario Biondi, Thievery Corporation etc. Total no brainer. It’s on Amazon Netherlands with shipping to Netherlands and Belgium.
    https://amzn.to/3bSvB2B

-The 7 disc Souvenir box by OMD is back at €17 on Amazon Netherlands. Again, shipping is limited to Netherlands and Belgium. Record company must have a deal with Amazon Netherlands to dump the OMD overstock or something. Crazy price and crazy length of time they keep offering this.
    https://amzn.to/3yBbSxW

-The Keith Richards Live At The Hollywood Palladium box set is on sale on Amazon USA for only $72, down from $175
    https://amzn.to/3ueqsIk

-On Amazon USA the 7 disc Rush box “The studio albums 1989-2007” on sale for only $33
    https://amzn.to/3wwLbIP

-Also on Amazon.com on sale is New Order’s 5 disc box Power, Corruption & Lies. Only $83.

Lou Reed’s New York box is still on sale for $42 on Amazon USA.

      1. Yup, just got delivered. I expected it to be bigger, but damn. That book. Eight discs. Amazing stuff. Are the Imagine/Gimme Some Truth boxes identical in size/shape? I expect so? They’ll be added to my shelves soon I guess.

  7. I’m quite keen to order the Elton john vinyl but with it bring an international product I’m slightly concerned about what I’ll actually receive (will it be the same nicely packaged product as the UK equivalent?). The terms for international products is quite a long and complex piece of text that I’m not sure I have the time or energy to interpret. Is anyone able to summarise it or offer advice please?

      1. Agreed. The only issue with AmazonEU items is if you have to return them. Amazon are offering the ELton box on next day Prime so it’s likely it will be despatched from within UK

    1. I ordered a copy yesterday and it has just arrived, no amazon prime but it was super quick delivery (UK).
The packaging from amazon was great, solid thick cardboard box, snug fit for the vinyl box set, looks like it could have been packaged this way by the record company rather than amazon.
The vinyl box set itself is really nice, well worth the money.
Price still falling in slight increments on amazon.

      1. Mine has also arrived. Good packaging – strong manufacturers shipping box within usual Amazon packaging box. Sent from within UK. Very impressive set. Exceedingly good value and the price has now dropped to £23!

        1. It dropped to £43 a few months ago & I missed it but I said that if it dropped to that price again I’d go for it , so when it suddenly hit £42 I jumped- then literally 2 minutes later it snapped back to £73

  8. Thanks. Ordered the Elton Deep Cuts. I dont know much of the content but at that price I’m willing to be educated…

I also noticed that the accompanying Elton 2 disc vinyl “And This Is Me” seems good value at £14 – also on Amazon UK

  9. My Neil Young box set arrived for £30 & a blue Changestwo got £12, marvellous. Just had a look at the Pink Floyd/Abbey Road DSOTM facsimile tape box set with 2 litho prints for £200 notes LOL, they couldn’t even be arsed to put a copy of the LP in, maybe expensive empty boxes are going be a big thing. Just got around to opening up my Kate Bush cd box sets & had a look at the unboxing videos, it’s great to have a look at these, sound quality is fabulous. Had a good look and listen to the White album box set yesterday, this has got to be the best box set ever, truly fabulous. I might get the 4 LP box set of this, anyone seen any good deals for this?

  10. Ordered the, Elton John, Deep Cuts Vinyl. Thanks for the heads up at a pretty crazy low price!
As a long time Elton John fan I actually now prefer a lot of the more less well known songs, and in some cases are superior in my opinion to the hits.

  11. Elton John’s 4 x LP Deep Cuts is probably at a rock bottom price in three European countries currently: £27 in the UK, €30 in Italy and Spain. Mine arrived yesterday and the presentation is fabulous.

    Amazon UK:

Jewel Box – Deep Cuts [VINYL] https://amzn.to/3ucBGx9

    Amazon Italy:

Jewel Box (Deep Cuts Curated By Elton John) (Box 4 Lp) https://amzn.to/3oS0Gsx

    Amazon Spain:

Jewel Box – Deep Cuts (Edición Limitada) [Vinilo] https://amzn.to/3fbTjsp

  12. You may recall that AmazonUK were accepting orders for several months for Prince 1999 CD Super Deluxe Box at cheap price of £49.99. They are now in the process of sending out cancellation emails to all who ordered saying no stock.
After the recent AmazonFR cancellation of the Yes box set orders because of wrong price, it will be interesting to see if they can honour the low price Prince Welcome box set orders

    1. I don’t disagree that their price was incorrect, but they had it that way for over a month. And the price kept getting cheaper. I could understand, if they had the wrong price for a day or two and then cancelled, but this is ridiculous. And I really wanted that box set. But, not for the list price.

    1. Just ordered this ! Glad I’m not an Ian Dury hardcore collector. I knew there were a few variations of the sleeve, but never realised there were THAT many !
I see the Sign O The Times CD super deluxe is reduced. If anyone is dragging their heels about getting this I recommend that you get your wallet out now ! It really is a wonderful collection! Worth every penny.

  13. Neil Young “Young Shakespear” is now down to £31 on Amazon UK. How low can this go?
The box set with LP, CDs & DVD is now actually cheaper than the standard standalone vinyl version on Amazon at £32

  14. Sign of the times is a such a better deal than Welcome 2 America box set given the amount of content! And still I;m not buying sign of the times (I have the original CD) but really want Welcome 2 America. I think I just really like the artwork and the title track. And I can pretend it is actual new music.

btw FGTH Liverpool vinyl is £8.75 on Amazon UK.

  15. Not a deal, but I know the people who frequent this page are no strangers to buying from abroad, so this possibly contains some useful info for UK buyers.
I have been buying from UDiscover in Germany for some time – always successfully. They changed the system post Brexit and postage increased to a fixed 17.45 euros but other than that kept trading as normal. It looked as though they were collecting Vat in similar way to Amazon.de etc. However, my latest parcel attracted a £51 customs bill which obviously I had to pay before the parcel would be delivered. Contents of the parcel was about 130 euros, but customs seem to have used a strange exchange rate and included postage in the total therefore pushing over the £135 threshold (in their eyes). The £51 I was charge included £12 Parcelforce handling fee. I could – and maybe should – query this breakdown with customs, but I suspect they are an immoveable force.
I checked with UDiscover – they confirmed that their price does include tax – but German tax – not UK tax. This isnt obvious at checkout but is buried in the T&Cs on their website. So looks like I’m paying Vat twice – once to Germany and once to UK.
This isn’t criticism of UDiscover, but just a warning that you should bear this in mind to check on any future purchases from any EU supplier. Customs are implementing and their interpretation of the cost of your contents may not be the same as yours.

    1. I believe customs always count shipping as part of the total when calculating so you have to consider this to make sure you keep within the limit for VAT/duty etc. Can you claim back the German tax (in the same way that tourists who buy things in the UK can claim back VAT ?)

      1. I’m no expert on this, but Google seems to indicate that you can only claim back German tax if you are a traveller and actually buy the items personally in Germany. There’s also forms that you have to supply to German customs before you and the goods leave Germany, so on balance it’s looking unlikely, but nice idea.
You are correct about the shipping. Shipping, packaging and insurance all count toward your total for UK VAT calculation purposes. As does Customs duty, so if your parcel gets charged customs duty, you will also get charged Vat on the customs duty.
I guess this is the new norm now so we just need to get used to it, but I will be thinking carefully before any such purchases in the future.

        1. Yeah , I was going to buy one item & with shipping it was coming it at £134 which was cutting it fine, the next day the exchange rate had shifted & it was £137 which would have pushed me over the £135 limit so unless it’s a decent level below the limit I steer clear in case of charges (especially on pre-orders where Amazon don’t charge until an ships, so the exchange rate can be totally different to when you actually pushed the button to buy)

        2. (The weird thing is an item I bought from Amazon France was charged international shipping & and an ‘exchange rate guarantee ‘ charge but the item itself shipped from an Amazon warehouse in Scotland & arrived 7 hours after I ordered it so was in the UK the whole time !)

          1. That’s not weird Nathan, that’s common practice at Amazon because all international Amazon companies legally stand for themselves but use the warehouses of their sister companies (at least across Europe) for a long time now.

That’s not a problem as long as you share an economic space with the countries from which websites you buy from but, as we all should have realized by now, it becomes a problem if this is not the case because it then means that you can’t really calculate the additional cost you’ll be charged with…

          2. Yeah agreed, I’m just not sure what the customs situation is – if I ordered a £150 set from Amazon France that was shipped to the UK from a UK warehouse so never left the UK or passed any border would they still charge customs charges/duty etc?

          3. Sadly i think they would, because the contract is between a seller in France/EU and a buyer in the UK/Non-EU…

  16. That price for the Prince box set is crazy good. I managed to get a reasonable price on Amazon Australia a few months back (AU $250) and then picked up the CD version for $140 last week. By way of comparison, JB Hi-fi has them priced at $600 and $320 for the vinyl and CD respectively. I simply cannot fathom the massive price discrepancy. Maybe someone out there can illuminate me…

  17. £152 for the 13 LP box set is a steal – I’m glad it’s finished before I saw it as I’d want to buy it again.

The anomalies in pricing in the music industry is never short of baffling at times. I know they are extremes but how can you get amazon charging £67 (and it was initially £100) for a one LP Neil Young box set and £152 for Prince’s super duper deluxe set?

  18. Great price on Prince LP set Paul! Fleetwood Mac Live SDE now a decent £53.62 on Amazon UK. Will it drop more or shoot up like Amazon annoying does sometimes? Also a shout out for brilliant customer service from HMV on line. My Kylie signed CD (£4.99) was apparently incorrectly listed as signed, but unlike some SDE readers, I didn’t get a signed picture in an LP mailer as a nice replacement. Well today they have sent me one especially after I contacted them. Did they have some spare ones left or is Kylie getting them out of a hole ;-) Anyway, after the Van Morrison signed debacle (I admit I was wrong to think it wasn’t a stamp), it’s nice to see a signature with pen strokes in what looks like silver sharpie. Kylie, a megastar, but still prepared to put the work in for fans by actually signing her promotional items back when she was pushing Disco. I think we should all try and keep HMV in business too, as they keep Amazon in check. Also if you have a nearby store, you can click and collect items of any value and avoid postage. We’ll miss them if they go and will literally pay the price!

    1. That Fleetwood Mac Live set was around that price for a couple of hours about a week ago. I bought it and later on thought about mentioning it on here, but by then it had gone back up to £75…if that helps you make a choice :)

      1. Thanks Richard S. I actually bought it on music magpie (via ebay) with the 20% off last week too, so it was about £55 delivered and mentioned it on here along with the short lived amazon £54 price last week, but as you say it had gone back up very quickly before my comment was approved. Some Amazon things creep down and creep back up, but most seem creep down and then jump up high. I guess that is to get people to pull the trigger. I also think, ironically, the power of the SDE website deal alert tends to finish some limited deals off quickly, as I think their website senses when loads are piling in on an offer. I suppose it keeps shopping “exciting”, but how many people bought Young Shakespeare at the “bargain” of £43 just to watch it drop another £10 in a week. I like the potential bargains, but as has been discussed before with many releases being limited these days, I only really get bargains on the items I can afford to live without.

        1. I guess if you’re happy to push the button at £43 then it’s obviously at your sweet spot & if it drops further then you just put it down to experience. I’ve had many where I was just waiting for an item to drop another pound or two then it shoots up £40 & still hasn’t dropped again months later & I regretted not going for it – it’s all swings & roundabouts !

          1. Yes Nathan, totally agree. We’ve got to buy at some point or else spend all our time watching incremental price fluctuations to save a few pounds. I think the huge price hike they do from a low price (mostly) is to push people to buy in haste. It will be interesting on Neil Young’s reissue programme going forward. These discounts available mere months after release may tend to lead to people shying away from buying at release full price, but then if they’ve been caught out with over pressing, they might moderate it for the next batch – who knows. They could always charge an average reasonable price initially and just stick to it, rather than this skimming then discounting thing. There’s a thought!

          2. I guess it also depends on the limitation. The Neil Young deluxe’s are ‘numbered limited editions’ but my Young Shakespeare is number 35,700 so god knows how many they made but with huge numbers like that you know it’s not going to sell out in a few days so you’re more likely to wait it out for the price drops.
