  1. Hi Paul, one thing you didn’t mention about the Jesus Jones 2LP is that it’s mainly a reissue of a Japanese CD compilation from 1993. That helps to explain the appropriate period artwork. This vinyl edition adds a couple of unreleased mixes of “Right Here Right Now” and a period (previously-released) mix of “Zeroes and Ones.” It does look stunning!

  2. My nearest 2 Vinyl stores participating in RSD are Spun Out in Northampton (which i went to last year and was manic and a free for all!) and Slide Records in Bedford. Chose to go to Slide this time – was unable to queue from 7am when the Arcade opened but managed to get there just after 9. As i walked in I couldn’t see any of the RSD releases. Was then approached and given a list to choose from. What I’d say is make a list of the releases you need otherwise you’ll lose time looking especially as quite a few titles didn’t arrive and some were very limited in quantities. I was fortunate as i managed to get 7 out of 8 on my list. Only one i missed out was the Blondie 7” double Single Sunday Girl. Managed to purchase FGTH,Kirk Hammett,The Wildhearts, Def Leppard (one i really wanted),Phil Lynott and David Bowie’s two EP’s both on CD. I was lucky because at least 4 of those were the last copies! Well organised by Slide Records, have no issue with a list handed out, i had my notes handy of what i wanted so it completed very quickly. Was probably in the store 10 minutes max. Thanks again to all at Slide

    1. Hi Ben, agree with your comments about Slide, my go to for RSD and through the year. Was 24 in queue at 06:40, first 50 got a breakfast roll and hot drinks on Slide, much appreciated. Sorry I managed to get Blondie, bit pricey at £23 but prices seem higher every year. Also got Def Leppard and Asia pic discs very nice Roger Dean design on this one, and Mike Oldfield Tubular Bells 2. Very impressed with how Slide organise with list and simply pick up and go.

  3. The record store I went to I got first in line although it was 2am. The line was huge by the time they opened at 8am. It was the first time that I had ever gotten there early like that and damn it I was going to get what I wanted for the first time. The store didn’t have that many copies of some of the items but my must haves and I got were, Sheena Easton’s -The Definitive 12″ Singles, Suzanne Vega’s -Close Up Extra’s, Mike Oldfield’s -Tubular Bells II, Jesus Jones – Scratched-Unreleased rare tracks and remixes, and finally, I couldn’t pass us the 12″ of Van Maccoy’s-The Hustle. I actually felt bad for the hundred or so people in line as there were only two copies of Sheena Easton, Mike Oldfield, and Jesus Jones releases. The Mike Oldfield is a blue marble and its beautiful. I got my records and got out because its a small shop and it got crowded and ferocious fast. This was one of the exciting rsd events for me so I am looking forward to June as I want that Prince Gold album and the two Human League records. So its something to look forward to.

  4. Our record store in the Isle of Man had a good RSD, lots of banter in the queue before opening time. Got Pixies Live at Coachella 2004, Luke Haines/Peter Buck’s album of dub remixes by Jacknife Lee (of songs from their Beat Poetry for Survivalists album) and the new Jack White LP on a nice marbled blue vinyl. I know the latter wasn’t a RSD release but the store hadn’t managed to get the Blur remix album so I took a punt having heard good things about the Jack White album….

  5. I couldn’t find the Prodigy remix album on the RSD list, nor did my local shop have it. Rough Trade UK listed it, but not Rough Trade US (I’m an expat Brit!). I did pick up the Electronic remix vinyl though and was happy with that.

  6. Just got a copy of Hyperactive by Thomas Dolby for a very good price. Isn’t it about time we had a proper expanded reissue campaign of his superb back catalogue? Yes I know there has been an expanded cd/dvd of Golden Age of Wireless and an expanded cd of Flat Earth and even a blue splatter vinyl repress of his first album but please can we have the Super Deluxe Edition treatment for this very talented artist.

  7. I was up early this morning and managed to get:
    Madonna – Who’s That Girl
    Mariah Carey – #1s
    Mel C – Northern Star
    Erasure – Ne-EP
    The Cranberries – Remembering Dolores
    Fragma – Toca
    Blondie – Sunday Girl
    Taylor Swift – The Lake

I’m very happy with my purchases.

  8. Just returned from RSD shopping and am absolutely delighted with the 2 LP deluxe edition of Stevie Nicks’ Belladonna. Beautiful gatefold and 12×12 booklet and 11 fantastic bonus tracks, including a superb early take of Edge of Seventeen, on heavy black vinyl. This is the kind of product that makes RSD worthwhile. Shame there was no Fleetwood Mac product this year – was expecting a coloured version of the 1980 ‘Live’ album or even a reissue of the very under-rated ‘Behind the Mask’ on two discs.

  9. Great unboxing video Paul. Just completed my RSD visit to the wonderful Slide Records in Bedford. Came away with the lovely Blondie single, also Def Leppard and Asia picture disc. Great to see fellow vinyl obsessives again and well organised again.

    1. They are definitely due for a reappraisal – widely mocked at the time but I can’t remember why. And, oh yes, the keyboard player is/was a really good bloke.

      1. Great band in need of reappraisal indeed…the Grebo sound/scene needs it too…Mike Edwards looks like the UK cousin of Roger Clyne…I went to a JJ instore on Long Island in Tower Records when Doubt was new & a hit…

    2. I want it too, had it in my hands, but price was steep, like $45.99, and I wanted that Ramones box…however, if I saw that Rough Trade had tons of the Alice In Chains EP (thought that would be rare & high demand…nope) & that Kim Shattuck demos will likely be on CD on the upcoming Muffs “Really Really Happy” reissue, I would have passed on those and got that Jesus Jones instead…it looks like a cool eyepopping piece!!

    3. Hi, I got one of those Jesus Jones RSD release and the colors are awesome as is the updated sound quality, if you can grab a copy somewhere its worthwhile!

  10. Managed to get the one thing I wanted – Scott Walker ‘Boy Child’ gatefold double white vinyl. Excellent 67-70 compilation with 4 additional tracks added to the already impressive 20 track CD release.
Could have easily picked up both Bowie’s, but just not worth it.

  11. Entertaining video as always Paul. There’s really not any must buys for me at all this year. I have a great copy of the original 12″ of Sunday Girl so I will skip this one, I may get Hyperactive by Thomas Dolby on blue 12″ but again I have a great original copy, possibly The League Unlimited Orchestra on white vinyl and Baggy Trousers on 12″ ep. I am not going out and queuing up tomorrow. If I can get any of these online for a good price, maybe, I just don’t know.

  12. Just thought, if Bernard Butler is releasing new vocals in sleeves with photos from the time of the original release, does that mean he’s the exact opposite of Phil Collins?

  13. Thank you, Paul. I really enjoyed that video.

I’m in two minds as to whether I will venture out tomorrow and join the queues.

I would like to buy the two David Bowie CDs, but after having watched your wonderful video, I think I’d like the Jesus Jones record as well.

I love Blondie, but I think I’ll give that a miss. Hopefully the box set will arrive soonish!

  14. Great video Paul thank you. Jesus Jones pressing looks fantastic. Blood Records and Third Man do some beautiful looking coloured vinyl too.
