Rough Trade UK have a big old sale on starting today with some decent savings on some vinyl and stuff. As always, a hefty amount of effort to browse their website but I got the Pixies Live At Brixton 8CD box for £50 (£45+£5 delivery), which is £15+ cheaper than Amazon at the moment.
Super Furry Animals Rings Around the World 3 CD edition is just £4.97 today on Amazon UK. I think a number of us have been waiting for a price drop on this. A dozen copies at time of posting.
Bit of a throwback one – the 3CD Velvet Underground – White Light / White Heat 45th box on Amazon DE is £32, which seems decent (amazed it’s still available, to be honest).

Wasn’t for long. Now 122 euros….
I just bought the Holidays in Eden 4LP deluxe edition for €35,46 at amazon.de. Snap it up quick because it is probably not gonna last for very long!
Correct. Now “out of stock”
Madman Across The Water 50th vinyl at £90 on Amazon UK, bruv calling me a tightwad for waiting for another drop, I’ll bite at £70, I’ve got a Golf courtesy car for a couple of weeks & it has a CD player, with a 10 disc changer in the boot, absolutely brilliant, had the sat nav off driving up to Leeds, with The Kick Inside, Ziggy , Sgt pepper & Nevermind to keep me going, CDs unbeatable in a car.
Pulse deal is back on and slightly better now, under £26 at the time of posting.
Heavy Stereo’s 25th anniversary edition of Deja Voodoo is £4.08 on Amazon UK.
Some great bargains on the Resident online sale, quantities will be limited though and there’s a lot to wade through.
Dodgy A&M years 8cd boxset : £20
Bernard Butler People Move On 4cd reissue : £12
https://www.resident-music.com/collection&path=44600
Good spot. Those are phenomenal savings on two excellent sets.
My wallet says thanks Steg for making it much lighter!
£170 spent, amazing bargains, pretty reckless RSD 22 LP pic disc £9.99 both U2 recent 12″ singles 7.99, patti smith curated double RSD22 10.99 and the list goes on and on
Menswear singles boxset down to £28
https://amzn.to/3aTE8VJ
Menswe@r – Big In Japan – Vinyl Boxset with Signed print now only £23 at amazon UK – original price was £60+ I believe?
Emerson, Lake & Palmer – Out Of This World: Live 1970-1997 10 LP box set only £61.78 on Amazon UK at the moment, sold by Amazon and less than half price of any other Amazon marketplace seller. Bargain.
Bargain indeed and my order from late last night arrived promptly early this morning. However, it was delivered in very flimsy packing. It was obviously damaged with a big dent in one corner. To be fair, it could have been a lot worse. The records inside appeared ok. I thought twice about whether to bother sending it back but I’ve compromised too many times with Amazon, so it will be on its way to Amazon for a replacement. Will be interesting to see how they send the replacement.
For those interested – replacement arrived safely in both manufacturers shipping carton and Amazon box. Either they took note of my comments or I just got lucky this time.
Blondie’s Yuletide Throw Down 12″ Pink Vinyl Single is under £8.00 considering it was £22 when it came out. Bargin
Sorry forgot to say it’s on amazon UK.
This dropped to under a tenner not so long ago, then shot back up again just around the time the boxset was announced. The fact that it has dropped like a stone to under £8 probably doesn’t say much for the popularity of this release…
I’m not sure any of the Blondie box sets are selling well at all at the moment. None of the general formats dented the Amazon top 100 best seller chart except for the 3CD version for a few weeks after initial announcement.
The Recordstore red vinyl 4LP option – which is limited to 400 units – still has 190 copies available at time of writing (there is a sales counter on the Recordstore page – it’s going down by only a few copies a week).
a lot have been selling on ebay, one seller is not only selling them but posting them out right now, I got the 8 disc cd box set about 10 days ago. Astonished that A, they managed to get the stock so early and B, nobody from ebays VERO have not yet kicked them off. To be fair they were only selling both CD box sets and box black vinyl sets so I have no idea about the red vinyl set on recordstore. I am on a few blondie FB pages and a lot of people who would normally have bought all formats are having to pick and choose according to their pocket at the moment.
On Amazon UK Elton John’s Madman CD box set has dropped just below £50 on there for the first time (£49.80). And the vinyl is down to £94. Suspect, knowing the way EJ’s recent sets have gone, that the price might drop even more on those at some point.
And a non-deluxe one, the brand new Interpol album that came out last week is £7.99 on CD.
Very small thing but noted that if you’re not bothered by the DVDs/BRs, you can get 4 of the 5 CDs from the Pink Floyd Later Years box set on Amazon UK for a pretty good price currently:
Momentary Lapse of Reason (2019 Remix) is £7.60
Delicate Sound Of Thunder 2CD (2019 Remix) is £10
Live at Knebworth 1990 (Remixed) is £5.40
You can also get 2 of the songs from the box’s rarities CD (and an additional song that’s not on the CD but is on one of the 7″ singles in the box) on the Best of The Later Years CD, which is £6.
The Dodgy – A&M Years signed 8CD box set is back down to £36.50 on Amazon UK. Good price for that set.
Neil Young Archives II is down to £64.25 on Amazon UK. It may have been lower but if it was I missed it. This is the price from a third party, but if you prefer the Amazon product that is only £66.75.
Third party will possibly do a better job packaging it…
Rufus Wainwright’s forthcoming album: Rufus Does Judy At Capitol Studios is £8.99 for the LP at Amazon UK Rufus Does Judy At Capitol Studios https://amzn.eu/d/1LIiHkd
Maybe not to everyone’s taste, but the Wildhearts latest 21st Century Love Songs vinyl is currently nine quid on Amazon
House of Love – “Burn down the world” forthcoming boxset: 53,60 eur on Amazon ES.
It’s even cheaper on Amazon UK at mo (£40.61).
In fact that price is even less expensive than direct from Cherry Red (£41.99) which is an unusual state of affairs for one of their releases.
Neil Young’s release-fest continues – ‘Eldorado’ gets a stand-alone release on August 19 on cd and vinyl. The 5-track mini album was originally Japan/Australia-only so a welcome reissue (albeit five tracks for the price of a full album by the looks of it!).
Self Esteem – Prioritise Pleasure
£9.99 on LP on Amazon UK at the moment. Widely regarded in the press as one of the best albums of last year. Great price!
Fully agree. An amazing record.
Bowie – Brilliant Adventure CD box is £68 on Amazon DE
Niche one for the late 90s/early 2000s dance-rock enthusiasts – the 2016 Edsel 2CD reissues of Death In Vegas’ first 3 albums are all between £6-8 on Amazon UK (search ‘death in vegas edsel’ and they come up top).
Ian Brown – The Greatest double vinyl £11.50 on Amazon UK.
Didn’t last long…
Still there. My tablet’s acting up so I can’t post the direct link. Look in the bestsellers section. Currently 8th there.
Slightly curious release that I hadn’t noticed before, but Amazon UK have the Songbook + CD edition of McCartney III on sale for £6.54, which is a pretty good price if anyone is looking to both listen to the album and play along on piano or guitar.
https://amzn.to/3yHmEDN
Sold! To the man whose name is, well, me.
Some good box set offers at Last Night from Glasgow inc the 4 LP Goats Head Soup for £39
https://shop.lastnightfromglasgow.com/products/rolling-stones-goats-head-soup-4lp-super-deluxe-box-set?_pos=2&_sid=ce5222dfd&_ss=r
I spotted a great deal on a karaoke cd. Whoa Daddy.
Jimi Hendrix Live In Maui 2CD/BR is £15 on Amazon DE (c £18 incl delivery)
Neil Young Archives Vol 11 is £50. Amazon UK 5 PM
Great spot Pete > https://amzn.to/3ceqv3G
Sadly, it didn’t last long
are there still no deals for he amazon prime day?
CDs and Vinyl aren’t even listed on Amazon UK, so nothing. Bit like their Black Friday music deals, which have absolutely useless for years now.
You can get the 3CD edition of Super Furry Animals’ Rings Around The World on Amazon UK for a really great £8.99.
Over at eBay Music Magpie has a 20% off deal.
Just landed the Abba Box Set CD set for £33.80
I tried that and it just said it couldn’t apply it to my order. This was something around the same price and from Music Magpie, plus it actually said 20% off in the listing summary. Bah!
The Dylan 2 CD Springtime in New York is back down to £8.99 if anyone missed it.
Peace and love…. peace and love…ringo starr …..change the world 10” vinyl…..
I thought this was gear fab at £7.62 when I bought it…but it is now £5 and a few pennies (incl postage if you have amazon prime)
https://amzn.to/3PlcbV7
…..ringo is definitely not discussing pricing strategies with his mate Paul….
He does, but they have different opinions about it…
The CD edition of former Shack frontman Micheal Head’s latest album is £4.79 brand new from Chalky’s UK on Amazon. Critically acclaimed, it’s shot up the Amazon sales rankings since listed at that price, so don’t sleep on it. I did post about it yesterday but my comment wasn’t published.
A phenomenal album. One of the best of the year.
Agreed, Michael Head is a class act, all of his discography, including The Pale Fountains & Shack are worth seeking out.
Wasn’t available when I initially looked but checked back a couple of times and eventually got it for that price, so thanks for the heads up.
Mary Gauthier, New Album – Dark Enough To See The Stars Vinyl £7.91 Amazon uk Less than half price
A quick reminder to everybody interested in Mary Gauthier:
For 49 US$ you can buy a bundle of all her formerly released ten albums (except the new one) on cd from her website marygauthier.com
If you’re very interested in her music and her views on songwriting you can save a further 4 US$ with bundling the 10-disc-bundle with her just released book for 75 US$.
If you’re more interested in her newer stuff you can also buy a bundle of the new album (either on cd or as a vinyl album) with a matching t-shirt added for 40 (cd) or 45 (vinyl) US$ and also save 5 US$.
As i formerly had bought only 3 of her earlier albums i treated myself with the lot fearing the worst regarding shipping costs as i’m in Germany but it came down to a reasonable 30 US$ (shipping inside the US is 10$) adding up to a sum of 145 US$ which i think is very good value when i regard what i received for that.
There was one query with the package though as the 10-cd-bundle was one disc short but i had a nice exchange of emails with the artist herself and she has sent the missing cd via letter ASAP.
So good service is also provided.
I can verify what Klaus says. I ordered the 10CD bundle which came to £55 including shipping (and thankfully no Customs fees). They took just over a week to arrive and I bought after being informed of the offer on here (thanks to whoever that was!) and after a mate was raving about her new LP. I sampled half a dozen tracks on YouTube and was sold. She is a class act and if folky/bluesy singer/songwriter is your thing you will not be disappointed.
Waiting for some Prime Day deals. Looks like I’ll be waiting a while…..
yep, bugger all at the moment
Hmm, yeah I clicked on CDs and Vinyl and there is just 1 CD: Karaoke Party Hits!
Super deluxe 8CD boxset :D
Music poorly served as usual, but I picked up The Godfather Trilogy in 4K UHD for £52 when it’s usually £75. It has a “Prime Day Deal” label against it, but it isn’t listed in their Cd/dvd Prime Day deals pages.
It might be worth just browsing for the music sets you know you want to see if there might be an (unlisted) Prime Day deal label showing.
Sorry about deviating from the usual SDE content Paul. 4K is a very good thing provided that the film/TV series has been actually mastered for 4K. I’ve come across several films that show no improvement over their Bluray counterparts. I’m not naming them because I can’t remember which, having a large Bluray collection. Although I should have kept a record in case I make the same mistake again.
Paul, didn’t you used to have a DVD/Bluray equivalent of SDE when you first started? Or am I imagining it?
Hi Nathan.
No, you’re not.
I remember it as well though it was a short lived affair.
That would be welcomed (SDE for movies). I know Discogs had a site for movies (Filmogs) for a while but shut it down. blu-ray.com has some good information including reviews of the video and audio quality of new releases.
You aren’t imagining it, there was one. It lasted a year or two before being put out to pasture!
Misfits: The Mercury Years 1986-1990
Curiosity Killed the Cat, £22.99 on HMV, but apply the FLASH50 code at checkout and get it half price… £11.50??? BARGAIN!
This set is £12 on Amazon now including delivery for Prime.
Speaking of HMV, I wandered into the new store in Wigan today (they’ve moved to larger premises over 2 floors) I was in 3 minutes. That was as long as it took to climb the stairs, check out a couple of LPs and come back down again.
HMV’s pricing is completely BARMY! The two LPs I looked at were £35.99. Theses weren’t double or treble vinyl they were SINGLE LPs! I thought that guy who took over was going to charge sensible and competitive prices. I do know he actually did at first but after today I will not be returning. I’m all for supporting your local record store but not at the point of being ripped off.
Unsure if this one has been posted before or not but the Crowded House – Dreamers Are Waiting coloured vinyl is £6.49 on Amazon UK.
https://amzn.to/3uI5kx4
Cheers Matt. This was on a deal post a month or two back, but no harm in reminding people. It goes up and down like yo-yo
Elton John jewel box, 8 Disc box set is £79.99 on HMV but if you apply the code FLASH50 you get it for £40 Inc postage (UK)
eBay have a 20% off deal happening right now – just picked up The Police – Around The World CD/BR for £16 which seems like a really decent price.
Noticed a few other bits in there too –
Porcupine Tree – Closure/Continuation deluxe CD/BR set is £44
Neil Young – Official Release Series Discs 13, 14, 20 & 21 for £36
Abba – Album Box Set for £34.50
Van Der Graaf Generator – Charisma Years 17CD/3BR box set for £105
Code is HOT20 and it’s the Music Magpie store on eBay until Wednesday (overlaps with Prime Day on Amazon so perhaps hang fire until the deals in that sale are revealed?)
If any of you are near Banquet in Kingston today they have an over the counter sale of returned items, loads of boxes there
For Oasis / Britpop completists – the Heavy Stereo 2CD Deja Voodoo with the Gem Archer signed print is £9.84 on Amazon UK.
Just bought the Bill Bruford boxset half price ish on UK Amazon… £27 ish… Bargain!
Thanks for posting this Paul.
Thought i’d had to wait longer for a deal on it.
Now received 2 copies of this … both missing the first disk (second disk included twice). Reluctantly giving up and asking for a refund.
Amazon US deal:
ELP – Out Of This World: Live 1970-1997 (10 LP) – $113
https://amzn.to/3yAD5Sq
Joni Mitchell arrived, dented corners, amazon customer service will refund but will not replace even though they have stock, pathetic card envelope packing caused the issues.
Order it again, if it arrives OK keep it and send back the damaged box as your second order. Simples.
Amazon UK don’t have stock – its only available via 3rd party sellers or Amazon EU which is probably why they cant replace. Sometimes they will only offer a refund if a promo offer has ended – ie if you buy it for £25 and the offer has ended & it’s now £60 they will only refund – im guessing because they got the original stock at a substantial discount from the supplier & if they replace with full price stock they are losing £££
Yep, good old Amazon. I would persist with the complaint(?) though. Don’t accept the first employee’s answer. Sometimes it takes multiple calls etc, to get someone with common sense, and understands your situation.
I already decided to go down the golden ages suggestion before i read what he said, slightly underhand I know but i am guessing Bezos will still be able to put food on the table.
I think the golden ages suggestion is morally justifiable if both purchases are direct from Amazon themselves. However, if the 2nd purchase is from a third party seller, then the third party will loose out rather than Amazon
Hi Simon,
that shouldn’t be a problem because you can obviously choose in your Amazon account which one you’re sending back…
Btw i had the same problem as Tony the other week but with the massive new Robert Fripp box.
Amazon sent it in a lovely brown McDrive style paper bag, which lead to the box getting so bumped up that one corner of it split open.
Unbelievable that people there still haven’t noticed that this would unneccassarily lead to a loss of income for their employer as they either have to offer it substantially cheaper via a warehouse offer or possibly can’t sell it at all because it would be kept sending back.
The second copy however arrived in a hard box with brown paper only used as stuffing inside the parcel this time and looks fine.
Call customer service and make a complaint. They will replace it and they should take note of the packaging problems and investigate. I have had several problems with vinyl deliveries from Amazon – unbelievably, I have had vinyl dispatched in brown paper envelopes, with no stiffener at all, so inevitably the record sleeves have been creased and dented. They really need the feedback on these issues – ultimately they need to ensure that packaging is appropriately adequate for these expensive items. I always have great packaging from the SDE shop btw…… ;)
It’s been cheaper but not in stock for ages – Bowie’s Conversation Piece box set is £75 on Amazon UK (you can get it from Amazon itself rather than a 3rd party via the Other Sellers section)
On the subject of Joni, Paul, any news regards when to expect the next round of Archive releases/ original album remasters?
On Amazon UK
The Tony Visconti signed T.Rex 1972 CD box is under £60
The 13 disc Porcupine Tree Delerium Years 1991-1997 set is down to £100
The 2CD Plastic Ono Band Ultimate Mixes set is £8.85
Regarding the Trex box set – Amazon are still selling defective copies. Mine arrived yesterday but discs won’t play on CD player. I have emailed Demon requesting replacements.
I received my T-Rex replacement discs from Demon in less than 24 hours! That was a week or two ago. They seem to be in top of this issue!
Unless they press a new batch I would assume that all copies from the original pressing would potentially have the same issue so all retailers will be ‘still selling defective copies’ whether you buy from Amazon, HMV or your local Indie store etc
Neil Young’s Carnegie Hall 2CD is down to £9 on Amazon UK.
And Return To Greendale 2CD is £4.91
Carnegie Hall now £7.69, 9.30 pm UK. Needless to say, I already have it!
Thanks for the heads up guys. Got it for £7.69, now it’s back up to £14.
If anyone wants it for £9 open up the Other Sellers and there’s a seller in there still has it at that price.
Kraftwerk Remixes on black triple vinyl is a shade under £31 on Amazon UK at the moment….
That’s a deal given the double CD version has been steady around £20.
Even better today, now £29.26
Not a deal, but if anyone’s interested in it, the Manic Street Preachers very quietly released a digital-only 17 track compilation of rare cover versions they’ve done (simply called Covers) two days ago. I only happened to notice it by chance on iTunes, so no idea if any of the other digital stores (ie ones selling lossless versions) are planning on selling it.
The 2CD edition of Simple Minds Street Fighting Years is a remarkable £3.92 on Amazon UK.
deal over
Here it is

For those in the US, the Barnes & Noble Criterion sale is back on. All Criterion Blu-rays, DVDs, and 4K UHD discs are 50% off, both online and in stores, through July 31. Includes several music-related releases such as the 4ks of A Hard Days Night and The Last Waltz as well as Blu-Rays for True Stories, Buena Vista Social Club, Festival, Don’t Look Back, Gimme Shelter, Quadrophenia and Monterey Pop. Lots of great movies too of course.
https://www.barnesandnoble.com/b/the-criterion-collection/_/N-1p0i
Arrow releases are currently 50% off as well. Not sure how long that sale lasts. They have some cool 4k releases out.
https://www.barnesandnoble.com/b/50-off-arrow-video/_/N-2wsb
Free domestic shipping if you spend $40 or more.
Recently released Rufus Wainwright ‘Rufus Does Judy At Capitol Studios’ CD 40% off on AMZ US ($8.99).
Also, his ‘Unfollow The Rules (The Paramour Session)’ clear vinyl LP is 64% off on AMZ US ($8.69).
Joni back up to a still reasonable £36.57. Will check back later. Amazon prices change as often as cabinet ministers.
Tried to buy one at 5:45 pm. Deal over already!
Great price although it looks like it’s back up to £36 on the link. I got my copy from Amazon France a while back after a heads up from SDE. I’m hoping now for a similar offer on volume 1.
No surprise : the Joni box set sold out at that price quite quickly
Although it’s what’s on Joni’s Archives Vol. 3 & 4 that really interests me it would have been foolish to let this go, thanks Paul.
I paid the £50 initial price and I highly recommend this. Amazing price.
Brilliant bargain re: the Joni set. Thanks for highlighting this Paul and for all your inspiring & informed work at SDE. Just bagged it at this superb price.
So now it’s come out about John Peel and changing the name of his Glastonbury stage and the theatres named after him, going forward are all his sessions just going to be BBC Sessions? With no mention of his name???
The ‘revelations’ about John Peel are nothing new. Basically they’re from the horse’s mouth, so pre-2004. It’s just that someone has started up a petition this week to try to rename the Glastonbury stage currently in his name. I suspect it will happen. It would be ludicrous though to try to wipe his contribution to music from the map, no matter how suspect his ‘activities’ were, and from what I’ve read, well let’s just say it that it might be best we don’t use Paul’s site as a public square to debate such goings on.
The JM box set is a steal. Nonetheless, I came to the conclusion a while back that in the case of demos and live box sets, unless they’re by some of my all time favourite artists, I’m happy to stream them in CD quality using my Amazon Music HD subscription. I just wouldn’t listen to this enough to justify buying it. I realise that this is a completely unsuitable comment for a site that promotes “holding the music in your hand” and that the box set might one day disappear from Amazon Music!
Thanks very much, ordered the Joni set straight away.
Thanks for the Joni deal – purchased.
