Sold out Jellyfish singles box made available in black vinyl

Baby’s Coming Back in Black

Such was the demand for When These Memories Fade, the recently announced Jellyfish coloured vinyl singles box set, that the record label have hurried to offer a black vinyl edition which will be available later in the year.

The set brings together all six Jellyfish UK singles on seven-inch vinyl (from the two studio albums Bellybutton and Spilt Milk) and adds a bonus covers single, one side of which features an interpretation of Nilsson’s ‘Think About Your Troubles’ – “the last thing Jellyfish did as a group” according to founding band member Roger Manning Jr.).

The black vinyl edition of When These Memories Fade

The only difference between this box and the previous one is the black (not coloured) vinyl. It contains the same 64-page book with very detailed and entertaining track-by-track guides from band members and the 3D poster and 3D glasses.

It is also just as limited. This black vinyl edition of When These Memories Fade is limited to 1000 units worldwide. It will be released about ten weeks later than the coloured vinyl set, on 2 December 2022, via Newland Records. You can pre-order your copy from the SDE shop using this link or the button below.

EU SHIPPING NOTES: If you are ordering from the EU please be aware that that goods may be subject to import VAT when they arrive from the UK. The prices the SDE shop charge you do not include VAT.

    1. We are waiting on the stock to arrive and there are some issued due to postal strikes. Hoping the stock was going to turn up today, but it hasn’t.

  1. Hi Paul,

Is all vinyl clear and colours are added. So black versions are the same as coloured to produce?
It’s just black is cheaper in terms of dye.
Hence, sound quality is the same.
    Picture discs suffer.

    1. No.
Black vinyl is the colour it is due to the inclusion of ‘carbon black’ which makes it more durable. Pretty much the same way car tyres are black, it’s more to do with the composition rather than dye. Coloured vinyl is slightly softer but not so much that it would affect sound quality. It just might not last as long.

    2. I think you’re correct Keith. My understanding is that carbon black is no longer used to color vinyl. So there really is no difference between the colors for most vinyl pellets. There are other factors in the different vinyl formulations that effect hardness, but from what’s I’ve read about modern vinyl formulations, color is no longer one of them. Mobile Fidelity uses Clarity Vinyl. Semi-clear, quieter that standard formulations, and longer lasting. A lot has changed in vinyl formulations over the last decade or so.

  2. I was slow to react to the colored edition (I generally think colored vinyl a lame marketing gimmick) but am a ginormous Jellyfish fan dating back to Bellybutton. I’d love to think that the mega sales of these (2000 copies, ha!) would inspire a reunion. Anyways, ordered.

  3. You would think the black vinyl price would be a couple of quid less? Or not? I guess production costs are much the same. But it feels like it should be a little cheaper on standard black.

I don’t know why I’m whinging though, I managed to track down a pre-order of the colour vinyl edition at an independent record shop!

    1. Think I just managed to order the coloured version from a record shop as well after thinking I dawdled too long on it. I was going to settle for the black version until I saw your post and went searching again….

  4. “Baby’s Coming Back In Black”… Good one!

On a serious note, do you know if the Scary-Go-Round EP will be at 33-1/3 or 45 RPM? I could be wrong (I’m not at home to check), but I believe the original was 33-1/3.

      1. Thanks. In hindsight it’s kinda obvious since it’s often impossible to fit two songs on a 7” record at 45 RPM. I also noticed the small holes, which my original Jellyfish singles have as well. Were the small holes common in the UK?
