  1. David Paich (keybordist for Toto and session-musician on countless releases) released his first solo album this week: Forgotten Toys. Clocking in at a little more than 30 minutes, this is more of an EP really, which makes the physicial releases quite pricey.

  2. This is certainly where my preference of vinyl over CD loses it for me. I paid the equivalent of just under 20 pounds for the 50 track 3 CD set, whereas the 2 LP vinyl (a mere 16 tracks) would cost closer to 40! No friggin’ brainer. I don’t listen to CDs, but I’ll rip it and put the CD into my collection. Hell, the 50 track CD is cheaper than the itunes download!

  3. Just been through the Madonna tracks and mightily disappointed. With only one or two exceptions they have picked the wishiest-washiest mixes available. A travesty for such an edgy dance act.

Would it kill them to use the single remix of Express Yourself?

    My wait continues.

    1. I don’t understand what the issue is, the version of Express Yourself featured on this release is the actual dance mix edit which led the Warner swapping it onto to the video and radio. This was the version used in clubs.
If you’re referring to the 7” version that is basically the album version, but more bass, then why would they include that over the dance mix? Remember this is a collection celebrating 40 years of dance / club hits.

      1. Much as I love the dance mix edit (singing over a cool drum beat), the 7” single version has far more energy and oomph than the album.

If it was a celebration they wouldn’t have picked the most ‘smooth’ remixes. For example ‘Erotica’ (Madonna’s In My Jeep Mix) is a far more funky and danceable mix than the one here.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a great set.

  4. I now managed to find the Japan listings on cdjapan.co.jp (for some reason they don’t shop up if you type Madonna Finally Enough Love, only if you look for Madonna) but there is no mention of the prints. On hmv.co.jp there is no mention, but I managed to order it the other day. Only on amazon.co.jp are they listed (in one version only though, that I can find, as it says 24cm and the rest all in Japanese). Not sure if the track listing in Japanese is supposed to mark that, as the import are typed in English. Would be great if amazon would actually list the bloody catalog number like the other two. So, who knows for sure which retailer has the prints please?

  5. I’d almost given up on it but I’ve just got the email saying that the Bowie ‘Brilliant Live Adventures’ albums and slipcase are ready for pre- order again. At least they’ve finally delivered it I suppose – at long last.
Also The Mars Volta (greatest band name ever? – close run thing with Sonic Youth) are back with their first album for ten plus years for pre-order for September. Deluxe editions and merch. on their website – the already released songs sound almost poppy for them – interesting. Hopefully they’ll be plenty of intense, scorching prog on the rest of the album and hope they tour .

  6. Also out this week:

John Williams & Anne-Sophie-Mutte: Williams: Violin Concerto No. 2 & Selected film themes Boston Symphony Orchestra bluray

  7. Not a lot to interest me this week – which is no bad thing – still got boxes of previous purchases to catch up on.

I did originally order the Silver vinyl Madonna from Amazon, but decided to cancel this week. The Silver has been available to preorder continuously since the announcement so they must be producing tons of them. I’ve noticed that a lot of “Amazon exclusive” vinyl seems to be around for a while and drops in price pretty quickly (for example Plant/Krauss Red vinyl – £44.99 on preorder but dropped to £19 after a month)

  8. Prob just get the Madonna 3CD…the Swing Out Sister box I have on preorder and coming out in the US the following Friday, 8/26…on an unrelated note, I bought the Beyonce out of curiosity and that the releases were weak…have to say it’s terrible, it sucks, the Lizzo is much better and I just got the Alicia Keys which sounds interesting…will buy the Duran reissues as well…

    1. Haven’t bought a Steps album in years, decades, but no way am I paying $32 for that, I’ll wait for a deal/pricedrop…I’m in for a Steps catch-up…

  9. Danny Elfman has a 2CD or 2LP remix album just out called Bigger. Messier. with mixes from his Big Mess album. Includes new versions of tracks with Trent Reznor and Iggy Pop along with several remixes. Vinyl box set available which includes a life-sized light up model of his hand (batteries not included) (no joke).

  10. Really looking forward to the Madonna release. So far I have pre-ordered:

    6 LP Box Set
Black LP + Black LP with exclusive slipmat
    Red LP
    Clear LP
    Silver LP
    US 3 CD
    US CD
    Japan 3 CD with print
    Japan CD

Also out on the same day is The Platinum Collection from Steps. Bought a signed CD and signed vinyl from their official store. So it is an exciting week for me!

      1. I ordered the Japan ones from Amazon Japan, both versions come with exclusive prints (megajackets). Seems strange that only imports are available on CD Japan.

        1. Actually, the Japanese versions are available at CD Japan too. I pre-ordered the 3CD version there about three weeks ago. They sell the import versions as well.

    1. Dayam. You’re an ultimate fan. I ordered 4 from your list. you must live in the USA to get the three colour vinyls from Target and Walmart, etc.

      1. Actually, I live in Europe. Those color versions are also available as store exclusives over here. I bought the red version from Rough Trade, clear from Fnac and silver from Amazon UK.

      1. If there will be other versions then I will of course buy them as well.

I have been collecting Madonna releases for more than 35 years and I absolutely do not mind if my “wallet is affected”. I love buying physical products from my favorite artists and I will just not buy or do other things instead that mean less to me.

I absolutely don´t think how much you spend on an artist reflects in way how much of a fan you are. Some of us love to collect items, others not so much. Ultimately it all just comes down to how much we love an artist and their work.

        1. You seem to contradict yourself by saying how much u spend doesn’t reflect how big a fan u are, then u finish off saying it comes down to how much u love an artist! Even if I was a huge fan, it doesn’t make sense to me to duplicate. Understand the 3 CD and getting the 6 LP, but anything else is just duplication. I suppose some people just need to have it all!

    2. I’m not that kind of fan anymore, buying multiple versions of the same release…I only settle for one…perhaps the deluxe CD and a rare fave colour of vinyl for maybe RSD, but that’s it…and if something gets expanded or remastered or improved, I buy it to replace the old one and that’s it…I’ll just get the 3CD and that’s it for me…I don’t care if that doesn’t make me a “real” fan anymore…my wallet is not affected & I can still sleep at night…

  11. Also out this week:
‘NOW Presents… Electronic’ 5x vinyl boxset, Steps – ‘The Platinum Collection’, Oasis – ‘Be Here Now’ (25th Anniversary Edition Silver Vinyl’ & Panic! At The Disco – ‘Viva Las Vengeance’…

  12. I don’t think I have all the tracks on these new Duran Duran cds, so those might be interesting. I want the Swing Out Sister box, but have to see if I can afford it this month with the Blondie box sets out next week being a higher priority for me. Probably the release this week I’m actually most excited about is he new Hot Chip album Freakout / Release.

    1. I’ll get those Duran reissues…hope the bonus tracks are worthy & happy they are not vanilla…for me, in the US, that SOS box is out a week later so I’ve been given a break…as for that Blondie box, I’ll wait for a pricedrop, and it reminded me of (with Sandra who just played here) this Arabesque song “Hell Driver” from 1979, that clearly, Giorgio Moroder ripped off for the whole structure for “Call Me” a year later…find clips of the song on YouTube and your jaw will drop…my fave is a really cool one driving around Tokyo at night, over the Rainbow Bridge, through tunnels, really cool vidclip!!

  13. The Madonna compilation looks interesting but I’m wondering whether I really need it when I have the Immaculate Collection, Something to Remember and GHV2. I lost interest in her output after the Confessions album.
I hope that the career spanning sets which were announced last year will now see light of day Q4/2022 or Q1/2023.

My calendar of interesting releases is empty until mid September. Hoping on announcements for Dylan’s rumoured Time Out Of Mind boxset and announcement of any ‘new’ Bowie archival releases.

    1. None of the releases you mentioned have anything to do with Finally Enough Love. None of the tracks appearing in it were on any of those three.

    2. “The Madonna compilation looks interesting but I’m wondering whether I really need it when I have the Immaculate Collection, Something to Remember and GHV2”

You might want to confer with ‘djessie’ (see her (or his?) comment a few hours after yours) about that… ;-)

      1. I haven’t really bothered to analyze the track listing as I want to be surprised but I don’t think any of these are NEW mixes apart from maybe the tracks from Madame X. All others are just really rare or promo only / vinyl only. It’s actually bit like when you get 37 versions of Hey Jude and most people here eat them up without a peep ;-)

  14. Three of the four Duran Duran reissues do have bonus tracks that were not on the original standard UK releases (although nothing that hasn’t previously released on deluxe/Japanese etc editions).
