  1. Great release…sound, packaging, everything.
I’ve said it before: Paul you are the greatest for having figured out a pathway to give us SDE heads what we salivate for.
PS- Have you posted anything about how you pulled this off with Columbia/Sony?
Inquiring minds would love to hear it……

  2. Paul this is topnotch, great eye to detail. The video shows how proud you are and rightfully so. Well done! You single-handedly carved out a niche and bring so much joy to music lovers like me. This is the first Dylan album I own and it is absolutely outstanding, the highest quality music. I’m blown away by how good it is. I was one of the lucky ones to get the Fragments box set for $27. Haven’t had a chance to listen to that yet but if that’s half as good as this album, I am happy.

    1. Thanks Kauwgompie! I do agree it’s a wonderful record, but especially the Atmos version. Tracks like ‘Can’t Wait’, ‘ Cold Irons Bound’ and ‘Highlands’ are just so brilliant, but especially in immersive audio. I really appreciate this feedback more than you know, so thanks again!

  3. Just arrived today and definitely worth the wait. A true masterpiece and the Dolby Atmos mix brings out all the subtleties in the new mix. SDE rocks!

  4. This is stonkingly good. I had it on last night in my 5.1 prime spot, and found myself lost in the music in a way I have rarely been before. A beautiful album rendered even more beautiful! Many thanks for your efforts in getting this released.

  5. Received today and loving this. It’s great to sit in the living room with the sound of the band all around me. It’s a very absorbing listen.

Keep doing what you do Paul, really enjoying these SDE exclusives.

  6. If anyone is finding the high res tracks a bit too compressed, playing the Atmos tracks through stereo speakers is a much more comfortable listen and has better preserved the dynamics of the music.

It’s often a bonus having an Atmos option, for when the main mastering is too loud and still means buying a Blu Ray is better than a CD.

      1. Record companies tend not to offer supply alternate stereo mastering for blu-rays. So the mastering/compression is as per the other formats.

          1. I’m talking about the CD and vinyl. The stereo mix on the blu-ray is identical to what’s on the other formats, except it’s hi-res. Please complain to Sony and Bob Dylan’s team if you think it’s too compressed because it was ‘take it or leave it’.

  7. Finally got to order this… always really enjoyed the album, espesh the 16 minute final track…maybe after this, I’ll get the Fragments box… now what about that Ten Years After restocking?? And when will #9, 10 & 11 ship out?? As for the Criterion analogy, that’s a good one…the only title I had was the DVD of Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas…

    1. I am so loving this album having listened to it A LOT of late (as you can imagine). ‘Highlands’ is brilliant. The lyric is hilarious with the Erica Jong references. I’m still waiting on a date for Ten Years After but it will be quite soon. 9 (The Hurting) ships in early June. 10 (Tubular Bells) is 26 May and 11 (Suede) is early July.

      1. Highlands, (Sad Eyed Lady of the) Lowlands, also over 15 minutes long, I confuse the two epic tracks, but yeah, Highlands is pretty funny…his mentioning of both Alicia Keys & Neil Young…I went through a period where I was put off by Dylan with the so-called “Christian” trilogy, but I’ve come to realize that he juxtaposes that stuff with a sharp dry droll sense of humour, and maybe he goes about that stuff with a side of sarcasm?? Anyhoo, cool about the upcoming shipments, it’s been so long since ordered that I forgot if I ordered them in bundles or not…looked it up & saw TFF Hurting was the BRA alone, Tubular was with the CD & Suede was a bundle with the 2CD & the vinyl ordered separately…and keeping my eyes peeled about 10YA…after all that, I’ll order the George…thanks for all you do Paul…

        1. “Highlands” is great, yes, a wonderful song that sounds even better on “Fragments”. The Alicia Keys reference is on another track, “Thunder on the mountain”.

  8. Delivered today thanks and playing now – message going out really to SDE Paul, as you could feed this back to the disc authors (and it’s true of just about every Blu-Ray Audio disc with an Atmos track) : can they stop putting menu music on these? After every playback of an Atmos mix the album returns to the main menu to BLAST you with loud 2.0 menu music at TWICE the volume. It’s not great – Thanks

  9. The postie has just delivered! The album is sounding fantastic in hi-res stereo. (An Atmos set up remains a dream for now).

Mr. Sinclair, thanks again for curating the Surround Series releases. Can’t wait for the next one!

  10. I finally pulled the trigger on this one. I have five Dylan SACDs but am not a fan or expert though I have to say that Slow Train Coming is an album that surprised me and sounds great in surround. I’m not a Dylan expert, any recommendations are welcome to what else is good and should be prioritised as I start to explore more. The video was a nice way to showcase your great SDE series, quality, attention to detail, value and commitment. Keep up the great work.

    1. Just stay away from down in the groove, knocked out loaded and under a red sky,as they are shite, rest of his stuff good to great, street legal, saved and infidels will do you for now!!

    2. You can’t go wrong with the early records, from “Freewheelin'” to Blonde on blonde. And then, explore all the rest, until his latest album, “Rough and rowdy ways”, one of his best ever !!

    3. ‘Love and Theft.’ ‘Blood On The Tracks.’ ‘Infidels.’ ‘Modern Times.’ ‘Desire.’ ‘Bootleg Series Volumes 1 – 3.’ ‘Good As I Been To You’ and ‘World Gone Wrong’ if you like covers and just Bob and his guitar. ‘Biograph’ was my first Dylan purchase and gateway to further listening – an excellent primer.

  11. I too have a considerable criterion (and others) laserdisc collection which I spent a small fortune on. Now consigned to the attic for my kids to send to the skip upon my demise! I digress – email received from the royal mail to say my package will be delivered tomorrow. My most anticipated release in quite some time. Only thing that could top this would be a spatial audio blu- Ray of The Hurting! Cheers Paul. Keep up the great work.

  12. I shall be Standing in the Doorway, awaiting the postman, looking at the daylight, thinking he might still come, It’s Not Dark Yet!. The George Harrison concert was hugely enjoyable on my 5.1 setup. I’m sure this will be the same.

  13. I can’t recommend these releases highly enough. It’s clear from the content – on the discs, in the booklets and the slipcases – that each one has been a labour of love. Quite frankly, the SDE Surround Series is the Criterion Collection of spatial audio. Long may it continue!

    1. Criterion Collection is a great analogy, I have recently been purchasing Criterion Blu-rays of a few classic movies and never thought of it.
Wikipedia says Criterion is a “distribution company that focuses on licensing, restoring and distributing “important classic and contemporary films”. Criterion serves film and media scholars, cinephiles”

It’s easy enough to substitute music and Audiophiles to that definition.

        1. I never thought of it that way, but I agree.

Nothing against having some Criterion LDs; I still have mine! (Not sure if my player still works…)
