  1. Elton’s Madman Across The Water SDE CD/Blu-ray set now £29.98 at Amazon UK. Assume it will contain the erroneous Blu-ray Disc, which UMC will no longer replace, so I’m wondering whether to bite. Thoughts from anyone who has the set?

    1. I bought it about two months ago when it was on sale at jpc.de for 45€ and went for the repressed blu-ray which was still available then afterwards.
Waited about a week after sending the email to Britain before it landed in my mailbox in Germany free of charge.

So obviously i’d advise you to check if UMC really has ended that replacement program in the meantime and, if not, go for it if you want this edition.

I gave the included br a listen before i ordered the replacement copy and it is as known so that you have the same version of the title track twice on it because the longer version with Mick Ronson on guitar isn’t included. Hope that helps.

      1. Thanks Klaus

The UMC email account has been deactivated, so without an alternate email address, there’s no chance of obtaining an official replacement. The internet tells me some people received duplicate discs from UMC, so I guess one may appear on discogs in time (none today). But without the missing track, perhaps the rest of the Blu-ray is worth buying the SDE?

        1. Hi scarymonster (or is it superfreak ;-) ?)

Sorry for not noticing your answer earlier.

I assist what Roel said so you made the right choice imho.

I checked my email account and can confirm that i sent the following text to [email protected] on 11/8/23:

          “Good afternoon.

I recently bought a copy of said box set and was made aware that there is a track missing from the audio on the included Blu-ray, so i am asking you to send me a copy of the corrected replacement disc.”

I included my full adress detail with email and mobile phone number and gave the name of the artist and the album title as a topic and also included as attachment a photo of my box set as proof of purchase.

As i wrote before it took about a week after that email before i received the replacement disc which was way faster than e.g. the replacement dvd for Neil Young’s ‘Harvest’-SDE that i ordered on the same day but which only arrived about two weeks ago after several emails were sent between myself and Neil’s online store which is operated by Warner music. Their problem seemed to be that the automated reply function which asked for several information on name and adress details had a glitch and didn’t store that information which led to the AI sending me the same email over and over (see what i did there? :)) ) again.

In the end a real person took up the conversation and sorted it out for me.

If you go for the Elton John replacement disc: Good luck with that.

          1. Thanks again, Klaus

Unfortunately, it seems the UMC email account has been deactivated (internet tells me that this was since September, so after your own correspondence).

An auto-message now states ‘NB! This inbox is no longer monitored! If you have a query with a purchase please refer to your retailer.’

I’m hoping to find an alternate UMC address, because I don’t think it’s reasonable to ask consumers to seek redress from the retailer, unless UMC has sent all its suppliers the replacement disc. (which clearly it hasn’t, as it engaged directly with consumers until last month).

          2. Sorry to read that.
Maybe you’re lucky and Antonio comes up with another address.

If not enjoy the other content of the br once you’ve received it. Even without the Ronson surround for that price it can be called a bargain.

Maybe the Ronson track will be released again on a standalone br in the future.

This way i just found a way to get hold of ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ on br after missing out on the replacement disc for the corrupted one included in the Immersion box.

    2. @scarymonster. The only fault with the blu-ray was the mistake made with Madman Across The Water track featuring Mick Ronson as Klaus pointed out below. This is no reason not to buy the SDE especially at that price point. The track is still available on Disc 1 (track 11) so the only thing you’re missing out on is that it’s not on the blu-ray disc. The video & music content from Sounds of Saturday & The Old Grey Whistle Test on the blu-ray the disc is worth the price of admission alone. Plus the accompanied book is outstanding.
Don’t hesitate and go for it!!
(By the way – it’s even cheaper on Rarewaves AU $45.99 so about GBP 24)

      1. The other “flaw” in the original Blu-ray was that high-resolution stereo and multichannel the entire album mixing were in a lossy compression format (DTS-HD), whereas in the corrected version, lossless compression was used (DTS-HD MA – DTS-HD Master Audio). “Madman Across The Water (Original Version, Feat. Mick Ronson)” is indeed available on CD, but, of course, not in a multichannel mix.

      2. Thanks Ariel

I had a fitful night’s sleep and decided to go for it at 2am! This time yesterday, there were 6 in stock and now only 2 available, so I’m clearly not alone ;)

        1. Oof! Missing ‘p’ in support…but using correct email when I’m fully awake (!) generates an automated reply: ‘NB! This inbox is no longer monitored! If you have a query with a purchase please refer to your retailer.’

          1. Hi,
I emailed about this in August and got an autoreply. Sent a reminder in September and got the unattended message. I’ve tried various addresses but any that respond tell me it’s not their problem and to contact the retailer.
Very odd that some purchasers seem to continue to get the replacement disc.

      1. and to be fair to rare waves they have also cancelled my order so I’m not out of pocket with an LP I’d barely, if ever, listen to.

And many many thanks for pointing out my mistake, single, double vinyl or whatever, many thanks for checking my post and pointing it out to others too. Much appreciated!

          1. I was actually warning anyone from buying it because it was NOT the 17CD Box Set. Which is what Charlie Bravo said it was. Christ some people, you try to do folk a favour then along come the pedants…

  2. Amazon AU pre-order pricing continues to defy logic.
We’re all probably are aware by now that Prince Diamond & Pearls SDE (CD) is priced at AU$38.48 (approx GBP 20) with now 200+ orders
and the Vinyl SDE (12LP) is AU $252 (approx GBP 130) with +50 orders. This have been up for about 8 days now. Amazon photos and description match the products in question.

They now also have pre-orders for:
Charles Mingus – Mingus Takes Manhattan 4LP box set for AU$30 (GPB 15) with +100 orders
Motley Crue – Shout At The Devil Box set (40th Anniversary) AU$63.52 (GPB 31) + 50 orders
Motley Crue – Shout At The Devil LP AU$23.97 (GBP 12)
It will be interesting to see how many/if any of these pre-orders are honoured, particularly Prince, considering the +200 pre-orders for this SDE will grossly exceed any allocation to Australia.
Well, we’ll know in a little over a week’s time. Wishful thinking but fingers crossed.

    1. Weird! I wonder: are they accidently attaching the price of digital product to physical product? (Or am I underestimating the prices that are being charged for donwloads too?)

  3. The Soundgarden – Badmotorfinger Super Deluxe (4CD/2DVD/BR) set is £99 on Amazon UK – not the cheapest I’ve ever seen it but I haven’t seen it in stock for ages.

  4. Neil Young’s The Ducks – High Flyin 2CD is down to £9.50 on Amazon UK, as is the slightly ropey Somewhere Under The Rainbow official bootleg series release.

  5. Check the top right of your website banners on Amazon UK, FR, IT (perhaps others) and for some customers they are doing the 5 (pound or Euro) off 15 on Amazon purchases. It toggles between that and free prime video. Worth applying the promotion to use on purchases in the next few days (it sits in your basket once you’ve applied it until this promotion ends later this month as you all probably know).

      1. I think I buy too much from those Amazon bastards because there’s no offer at the top right of my Amazon page. Or maybe they don’t like that my buying from them is down by 80%. RareWaves for all it’s faults is far better for pricing* vs Amazon.

*Not everything is cheaper, these days if you’re buying music on the ‘net shop around.

        1. I buy quite a bit (and at rarewaves). I always compare. I think it is hit and miss. You will get the voucher sometimes and miss out sometimes. I’ve defo been in the position where people are getting one and I can’t see it on mine, but I was lucky today.

        2. The Rarewaves Demon Sale is still on, got some great bargains this last week (as l bet you did too Goldy) especially as the 10% OFF vinyl code also applied, although l still struggle with their website.

  6. 24 hour Criterion Flash sale is on in the US through Wed, Oct 18 at noon ET. 50% off and includes several music releases (Beatles, The Band, Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, etc.).

    1. Thanks Steg,

i noticed your comment only after they were out of stock but as they still offered it for that price i ordered one and today it arrived in my mailbox in Germany.
About 27€ which makes that ‘deal of the year’ for me so far.

  7. Deepdiscount.com has 15% off with discount code LEAVES
The Eric Clapton Definitive 24 nights box set was $97 (already very low) now it is $82 and shipping is minimal. Deepdiscount is a reliable business. Same as Importcds.com.

    1. I’ve always wondered if there were other pieces by the various composers that were considered for but omitted from these albums, or longer unedited versions, or tracks that went unreleased when the project ended. No sign of those here: looks like a straight reissue, albeit a welcome one.

    2. Thanks so much to alerting us to this! I’ve been waiting for a comprehensive reissue of these Obscure releases since I first bought Bryar’s ‘Sinking of the Titanic/Jesus Blood’ in 1989 on an Editions EG reissue. Since thenI have collected various pressings of these ranging from original Obscure releases through more EG to CD reissues of some. To have them all in one place with comprehensive notes will be the best early Christmas present! Probably the CD box for me which will give me the incentive to, one day, complete some sort of vinyl collection. I wonder if the discs will get individual releases?

      1. Was it not originally in the £20 odd, or £30 price range when it was released?

I agree with it being an odd box set content wise.

  8. Although the deal for the Jesus Jones Some Of The Answers on Amazon is good at £81, I found an even better deal via Rarewaves and do had to pull the trigger as I’d been after this one for a very long time. I got it on Rarewaves for £73.49 which for the 15 CD set is outstanding. Granted it’s not the signed one but it’s over £50 more at £126 so I can live without that aspect but thought I’d mention it for anyone else interested.

  9. A lot of the UK price drops from last week have finished (I assume they were all part of the Amazon sale this week, albeit not listed amongst the deals)

The ones that are price-matching Townsend’s sale (eg the John Hughes compilation and the 15CD Jesus Jones set) are still available though.

  10. Amazon Australia has the CD super deluxe version of Prince’s Diamonds and Pearls on pre-order for AU$38.48. At first I thought it was a mistake, but the price hasn’t changed for three days now.

    1. @peterfd. I’ve pre-ordered one too. Don’t like our chances of getting it for that price, but you never know with Amazon AU. Having said that, with just about every pre-order I’ve placed in the past, they never seem to have any stock on release date and always show that annoying message “Temporarily out of stock”
      No harm in trying :)

    2. Also in downunderland the massive 12 LP+1BR SDE is listed at $252.45AU. Thems Australian dollars folks. The $AU is currently buying 63 US cents or barely 52 new pence. Add that to the $38.48 7CD+1 BR set and you’ve got yourself one double-barrelled bargain.

    1. Thanks Oskar, undoubtedly my fave release in this series so far. The CD version is also going for a song pretty much every at the moment, which is a surprise to me as l thought this would sell like hot cakes (whatever they are).

    1. Roland (and Marc S) down below – I have no experience dealing with JPC. Is this the real deal? It seems somewhat odd that this long out-of-print box is suddenly available. Do I have a right to be suspicious or am I being paranoid?

      1. David, JPC are a reputable company. I’ve ordered many times from them without any problems. Their packaging is really good and their customer service is excellent. They deduct money upfront
but I’ve had no problem in getting a refund if I cancelled an order etc.
Perhaps Chrysalis are doing a 2nd run.

        1. Roel – thank you for sharing your insight which was extremely informative. On the subject of Chrysalis, if indeed it is a second pressing, then one would have to think / imagine / hope that there’d have (already) been some sort of announcement, not unlike when “Thick as a Brick” was repressed. Perhaps JPC’s posting is a form of jumping the gun.

      2. I have my suspicions as well David but I have dealt with them before and they are reliable although this could be through a different seller through JPC. I have placed an order and paid with paypal so will be covered in any eventuality. To be honest I think it may be a mistake but you never know :-)
Just been on the site and it now states unavailable……….

        1. Thank you, Marc S. Indeed, it’s reassuring to have the PayPal security blanket. I, too, noticed that it has become “unavailable.” I suppose when it comes to the Jethro Tull boxsets we should expect it to be a wild ride, and this is no exception!

        1. https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/poprock/detail/-/art/jethro-tull-minstrel-in-the-gallery/hnum/6846887

It says so on the article page at jpc.de (in German language above the asking price).

If they state this they’ll have information by the record label. Last month they were the first who relisted the ‘Live And Dangerous’ box by Thin Lizzy and that is now offered by other sellers all over the world too.

As others already wrote: Completely reliable company from whom i order since more than thirty years now and really great packaging.

          1. Klaus – that’s fantastic insight you have shared, especially in context of Thin Lizzy’s “Live and Dangerous” boxset. So here’s hoping this is the real deal and next month those of us who have been frustrated by (so) many of the Tull boxset titles going out of print will have a second chance to procure “Minstrel in the Gallery.” By the way, my copy of “Broadsword and the Beast” boxset landed today, and it looks amazing. Danke, Klaus.

  11. Amazon US does have some CDs and vinyl on offer Oct 10/11. Not much and nothing like the movie deals. Here are some of them:

Ratt – The Atlantic Years LP box set $128 (26% off $200 list price)
Stevie Nicks – Complete Studio Albums & Rarities CD box set is $60 (40% off $100 list price)
Shania Twain – Come On Over Diamond Edition Deluxe 2CD $16 (20% off $20 price)
Jethro Tull – The Broadsword And The Beast The 40th Anniversary Monster Edition $58 (27% off $80 list price)
15% off Madness – One Step Beyond CD (not a great deal but I love that album)

    1. Some more:

      vinyl
Aerosmith – Greatest Hits Deluxe vinyl box set $100 (33% off $150)
      The Cult – Ceremony 2LP $30 (17% off $36)
General Public – All the Rage LP $20 (18% off $25)

      CD
The Stranglers – 4xCD Collection (late 90s albums) CD Box Set $22 (40% off $36)
      Neil Young – Somewhere Under the Rainbow 1973 2CD $15.50 (22% off $20)
      The Damned – A Night of a Thousand Vampires 2CD + Blu-Ray $20.50 (18% off $25)
David Bowie – Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars: The Motion Picture 2CD $21 (16% off $25)
Essential Artist Collection – Desmond Dekker CD $15 (26% off $20)
Motley Crue – Theatre of Pain CD $10 (25% off $13 list price)
      John Fogerty – Premonition 1997 CD $4.25 (65% off $12 list price)

  12. Rarewaves have the 5CD Tony Visconti signed edition of T Rex ‘1972’ at £37.24 (down from £66.24). Amazon UK is £43 for reference. Might be of interest …

  13. Marvellous effort from Amazon UK for its Prime Big Deal Days (their caps, not mine) for October 10/11. Not a single CD , LP or box set anywhere to be found. Bravo Mr Bezos.

    1. I wasn’t really expecting anything. They never seem to do (m)any deals on Music on Prime days or Black Fridays anymore. It is suspisciously missing from the enormous list of categories to choose from.

  14. A couple of Amazon UK deals for surround fans. Jethro Tull RokFlote CD and Blu-ray book set is down to £26. Depeche Mode Music for the Masses CD and DVD is £16.

  15. Marillion’s Seasons End vinyl deluxe box is currently £64 on Amazon UK, almost a tenner cheaper than the previous best price, I think. CD set is a shade under £32 at the moment as well, close to its previous lowest price….

  16. I’m seeing Bowie / Harrison / Bacharach / Thin Lizzy deals as still being live.

Debating whether to get the A-Ha Hunting 6 LP for £61. If the Enya was even anywhere close for the same number of LPs I would jump in, but at still twice the price…. not yet.

  17. Holger Czukays Cinema vinyl box set is currently £42.65 on Amazon UK, incredible price, as the cd box goes for £125 and above….

    1. Ah, I got this a few years ago at a record fair, similar price as this when it was £150 full price.

Includes a 7″ “video single” which plays on a normal turntable but has to be ‘translated’ via some additional machine.

  18. Joni Mitchell Archives Vol 3 currently £66 on Amazon. That’s 25% below their highest listing pre-release and cheapest I’ve seen in UK to date.

  19. U2 Songs of Surrender Orange Vinyl Amazon Exclusive double LP is down to £22 on Amazon UK.
A few other “exclusive” vinyls also have reductions – Wham Green vinyl double £27, Robert Plant/Alison Krauss Red Vinyl double £15

  20. On amazon.nl so probably only for Dutch buyers:
Marillion – Holidays in Eden – deluxe cd box + bluray for 19,99 euros
Lots of Black Sabbath and Motorhead 2cd deluxe editions for 6,99 euros
Dream Theater – the Studio albums box for 14,69 euros

On the marillion.com website you can purchase a reprint of the Afraid of sunlight deluxe edition for 50 pound.
Not cheap, but better than to pay the high prices the eBays-sellers ask.

      1. But you can forget all our other friends :) How very odd that Amazon.nl is the only European branch of Amazon (that I know) that is so extremely protectionist. (amazon spain, germany, france, Italy all still seem to ship internationally to a large extent). I assume it’s down to those two coutries’ law, as most Belgian/Dutch online shops (that I know of) have locked themselves into this small territory exclusively?

        1. It is very odd and I have happily bought from all of the Amazons that you list. Luckily for me, my daughter lives in Belgium, so I can get items sent to her. She tells me that Belgium now has its own Amazon, but I haven’t looked at this.

  21. Madonna (Finally Enough Love: Fifty Number Ones – Rainbow Edition) currently £83.99 on Amazon UK. Not bad considering some scalper is trying to sell a copy on E-bay for £449 (I kid you not)!!

  22. Not normally the done thing here but thought it worth a call out for completists – Steven Wilson has a digital deluxe version of his new Harmony Codex album available for £4.99 on his website until tomorrow. Includes a couple of bonus tracks and the Harmony Codex audio play. Think it’s available as a flac download for audiophiles.

  23. Amazon DE have done a similar thing to Amazon UK and dropped price on a few box sets.

Pick of the bunch if you’re ordering from the UK is probably Neil Young Original Release Series 22-25 at £29.43

      1. Bit hard to link them from a mobile but here’s the ones I’ve seen with a “limited time deal” flag on them

Genesis BBC Broadcasts 5CD down to £36

Queen Miracle super deluxe down to £114 (a bit pricey but cheaper than the UK I think)

        Dylan’s Fragments 5CD box down to £73

Dylan’s Another Self Portrait 4CD down to £59

Pet Shop Boys Smash 3CD/2BR down to £33 (think someone already spotted this one down below)

Wham Singles CD box set down to £45

Sabbath Live Evil 4CD super deluxe is £62 (possibly the cheapest I’ve seen it so far anywhere but still at least £20-30 too expensive for what it is – the same album twice across 4CDs)

Eric Clapton’s 24 Nights super deluxe vinyl box is £185 (about £30 cheaper than the UK but like the Sabbath one still a little pricey from my perspective)

  24. Brilliant Paul thanks so much have been waiting for this to come down in price held off and finally pulled the trigger . What SDE is all about . Thanks again

    1. Except it’s not over. It’s probably only that price in the UK, just like US deals are quite often not available to those in the UK.

  25. HMV are currently selling The Damned’s ‘A Night Of A Thousand Vampires: Live In London’ 2CD/Bluray set as part of their ‘2 CDs for £16’ offer. If you can find something else to buy in the offer, it effectively makes the price £8 (excl. postage) as opposed to £27.99.

    1. Probably until it is further reduced. It really does seem like a dud this one. Just wait for the stand alone atmos release, which is surely coming for Xmas. Or buy this ridiculous piece of junk. (The vocals on the live album are horrendous, the “replica”singles absurd, everything bar the tat (even the book) is available separately, the outer box is too big, the immersion box is still out there, it contains no marbles… l could go on.)

        1. Thanks ZK. To tell you the truth, the latest round of squabbling between ex-band members, current members and, in a depressingly Spinal Tap twist, their wives, has seen me turning a bit of a blind eye to most things Floyd of late. Please excuse my redundant prediction and read “sure to be heavily discounted by” instead of “surely coming for”. All other criticisms apply.

  26. Enya – A Box of Dreams 6 LP vinyl is down to £119 on am.uk which I think is the cheapest I have seen it. It is still too much for me at what is a £40 per double album equivalency, but it might be someone else’s bite point. It’ll have to go sub-£100 for me and my bank manager.

    https://amzn.to/3Q2zBlq

  27. The 6CD Teardrop Explodes: Culture Bunker 1978 – 1982 box set is €59.99 on jpc.de. For me, based in the UK, it came up as €57.19 (€50.41 plus delivery) so about £50 delivered. Seems to be selling out in some places so might be worth jumping on.

  28. As Matt D says, there seems to be a few discounts on Amazon UK at the moment.
The Neil Young Chrome Dreams is currently £33.99 (from £44) and the new ORS 22, 23 etc CD box is £37.99 (from £46).
Never sure whether to bite the bullet, or see if they’ll come down further. Maybe they’re just reduced now to the price that should have been in the first place.
I’m waiting for the Hawkwind boxes to come down, but not looking likely so far!

    1. About time too, although none of these appeal to me personally except the Bowie one which I already got elsewhere.
The Wattstax: The Complete Concert 6xCD box set is down to £51 also.

    2. Cherry Red have 20% off prog & metal titles on their website this month (code = PROGMETAL20) so the Days Of The Underground 8CD/2BR box set is £82 incl. delivery to the UK (the Space Ritual set is excluded from the offer).
Still not cheap, but £15 less than Amazon UK’s current price – and it’s a great set.

      1. Ah, excellent. Been on the Cherry Red site this week and saw nothing about the code (wasn’t looking for it, as didn’t know it existed even), so thanks very much for that!

      2. Space Ritual is actually sold out from Cherry Red and most stockists. AmazonUK appear to have the last remnants if anybody needs it urgently.
Cherry Red have confirmed this week that it in the process of a second edition repress

  29. Amazon UK seem to have knocked a few £££ of a few box sets (incl that Blondie set)

The Stevie Nicks box is at £65 (not exactly that £25 deal on release but ok for 10CDs)

The 5CD/3DVD Jethro Tull Broadsword box is £61

Bowie – Divine Symmetry is £66 (cheapest it’s been on Amazon UK I think)

Linkin Park Meteora 3CD is £14

    1. Few more subtle price drops that I noted

The Who With Orchestra Live at Wembley CD/BR is £16

Songs of Bacharach & Costello 2CD is £10

Kate Bush Remastered Pt2 CD box is £60

      Humble Pie A&M Years 8CD is £67

Neil Young Barn LP/CD/BR is £25

George Harrison All Things Must Pass 5LP is £50

  30. A-ha Hunting High and Low Deluxe Edition 6 LP Vinyl from amazon.de available for 79,08 Euro

Wham Singles Vinyl Box 209,99 Euro instead of 329,99

  31. I was one of the people on here who placed an order for the enormo Who’s Next box with RareWaves for £44. It was supposed to show up on September 28th, it didn’t. I contacted them and was expecting a refund and apology explaining they’d sent it as someone else on here had.

I received a reply after 2 days, no complaints there, explaining it had been sent and informing me a replacement had been sent out ETA 3 weeks. So this does seem genuine, I’ll keep you informed.

Anyone else received the set from RareWaves US or been refunded or received the same response as me?

    1. I’ve dealt with Rarewaves UK on numerous occasions, mostly with no problem. However, if an item doesn’t show up what you have said is their normal response – unfortunately, the replacement never shows either although a refund is evenutually issued. I hope you have more success.

    2. I placed my order with Rarewaves US (via Ebay) on 30 Aug, for £45.76. It was marked as despatched on 31 Aug and the last date for delivery was given as 28 Sept. As nothing had arrived, I contacted the seller the next day, not to ask for a refund but just to make them aware of the situation and to ask for any tracking info.
A few hours later, I received a message to say that my payment was being refunded; the item was no longer in stock so they could not issue a replacement. Also, they are unable to provide any tracking details.
Apparently, ‘This does happen from time to time when we have a lot of orders to go out on that day and USPS misplaces the parcel’.
Hmmm. As I said, I wasn’t after a refund, but I’d be interested to know what happened to my order. I’d also be interested to know if anyone who ordered The Who box set through Rarewaves US does actually receive it.

    3. I ordered one at £44 , got the dispatch notice with delivery by 28th September, it never arrived whilst they gave me a full refund within an hour . its strange that these go missing

      1. It’s also strange that in both your cases Lee & Dshires they refunded you. They were quite adamant that they had sent mine and then saying they will send a replacement within 24 hours. I am taking them at their word saying they are sending a replacement because if they aren’t they’re only going to have to reply to me again and in the end refund me.

I wonder are RareWaves US a shell company for that orange headed lying tawt Don the Fartbox and he’s using order monkey to fund his legal expenses.

Andy P, in the last 12 months I’ve placed and received lots of orders with RareWaves UK. However recently I’ve had items not arrive or arrive 2/3 weeks after they were supposed to have shipped. I’ve been refunded for non-arrivals that are now out of stock* but I think their warehouse/inter-company communications need someone who knows what they are doing. I say this because I’ve had orders they say have been shipped weeks before it’s been released.

I’ll keep using them for items that are cheaper than elsewhere because any problems are quickly sorted by their customer relations which are good. That’s despite having to wait for some stuff, it’s not like I’ve got nothing else to listen to/read/watch! I reckon 33% of my orders arrive on the day of release or within 3 days that’s probably better than you know who.

        1. Thanks, Golden Age. If you do ever receive the replacement, please let us know.

Maybe I’m being naïve, but there seem to be a few issues here. Why was the box set so cheap? Why was it despatched over 2 weeks before the official release date? Why are orders being ‘lost in transit’? Why no tracking info? The payment is back in my account, but I’m still inclined to take this up with Ebay. Not sure I’ll get anywhere though.

As I said in my previous post, if anyone does receive the box set from Rarewaves US, it would be good to know.

    4. Just for info, mine is slightly different. Ordered and allegedly dispatched on 31st Aug. I contacted them via eBay last night (Tuesday) saying it was past the delivery window and asking for some tracking details. Within an hour I got a reply with an apology saying they are aware of delays in the postal system and gave me a refund anyway, which I’ve immediately spent on Divine Symmetry, now the price finally dropped.
On the assumption that it might actually be just “delayed”, I’ve asked Rarewaves again for some tracking info. I have yet to receive a reply. Hmm.

      1. I think someone posted a while ago that they had received it, they also posted a photo. Other than that zilch. I’m not complaining especially if it arrives, but I haven’t been refunded but a replacement has been sent instead. I’ve also been asked to close the case with eBay otherwise I may be refunded and also receive the box. I think I’ll leave my options open. No tracking details so I’m not holding out too much hope.

It wasn’t an automated response I received it was an; actual human being.

        1. I think the person who posted the photo said they got their box from Amazon. It
I haven’t seen anybody that’s actually received a set from Rarewaves US – which makes me cynically think that probably nobody will…..

      2. I received mine on the Thursday before the Friday release, although I ordered from Rarewaves UK for the £139 price (still a great price although more in line with what I consider it’s value).

Interestingly they apparently fulfilled my Joni Mitchell (release date 6th Oct) on the 21st Sept, not yet received, but I’ve not chased them as it’s not supposed to be out yet.

        1. The Joni Mitchell Archives Vol. 3 is a sore point with me. I also received shipping notice from RareWaves about 3 weeks ago.

I didn’t realise it is only released October 6 because I contacted RareWaves asking where was my Joni box set? They informed me that it was sold out, they had no replacements and have refunded me. I had a good deal on this less than £50 and because they do not know what the feck they are doing I’ve lost out. No way I’m paying £80 at the Dodgers.

          1. Just to say that my boxset did arrive after the release date, I would also add that I’ve never had anything not arrive from Rarewaves – sometimes it may take time and this one unusually said it was sent before the release date.

    5. There’s definitely something weird about Rarewaves, I’ve had some genuine bargains from them but it rarely goes smoothly. I didn’t receive the first Abbey Road super deluxe they sent me, and they had to send THREE copies of the Little Feat Columbus set before I finally received one.

There’s no way they’re actually sending out everything they say they are.

    6. Well I didn’t get it for £44 but my Rarewaves one was £157-ish and arrived safe and sound. (Just noticed you’re talking about Rarewaves US mine was from Rarewaves-outlet in the UK)

    1. Possibly the lowest it’s been on Amazon – but I bought it from HMV online in March for £55 (as part of a half price box sets promotion) following a tip from another SDE reader.
That having been said, £58 is still a good price for this set (and Amazon will ship outside the UK).

    2. Cheapest on Amazon – HMV had it on sale for £55 back in March which is when I got it. But £63 is a really decent price – it’s a very nice set.

  32. Blackadder’s Historical Record: 40th Anniversary – Tony Robinson Signed Edition is currently on eBay UK for £37.95 + postage, there seen to be multiple copies.
    The Amazon price is £178!

    1. It seems there are two main sellers at cheap prices. Both seem to be charities – so presumably unsold stock got donated. The packaging on mine was a bit shelfworn and the barcode had been cancelled out in marker pen, so not pristine but excellent value nevertheless

  33. Arthur Baker Presents Dance Masters – The Shep Pettibone Master-Mixes has been reducing in price for a while. It’s now a very tempting £18.64 on Amazon UK.

    1. It’s a very good compilation that I have it as I paid the asking price when it was first released, at that price if I didn’t already have it I’d say sold!

    1. It shows £27 but not available. Maybe that’s because I’m in the US? I also believe this box is out of print. In the US on Amazon.com I can only get it as a UK import, supposedly from Amazon UK even though that shows unavailable on the UK website. All other websites don’t have it available.

      1. Strange. Must be a geo location thing. It’s still showing available here in the uk. I even tried checkout using an address in NYC and it wouldn’t allow me to send it even addressed to myself.

    1. I think I may have been suckered again with this release. I cancelled my Amazon order and ordered from JPC for £58 but I’m still waiting for shipping confirmation despite them charging me. I know some on here have had shipping notices, I’ve emailed JPC but it’s the weekend so I received an automated reply. I’ll wait until tomorrow and if there’s no confirmation from JPC I’ll have to bite the bullet and pay £83 from Amazon although it seems they are waiting for new stock of which I doubt there is any.

      1. Much the same happened to me yesterday. I also got an automated reply from JPC after querying delivery time ( I ordered it on 19h Sep). Took the decision about 5 hours ago to cancel order and have just received notification of refund from JPC.

        1. So, Amazon is now back up to £82 and a projected mid October delivery date.
JPC is still at the offer price of 69 Euros. The listing now states “Not in stock but new stock already on it’s way to us”. When I ordered mine from JPC it was limited to 1 item per person, it’s now limited to 2 items, so JPC must be confident they have a reasonable quantity on the way.

    2. Have just this minute taken delivery of my “Live & Dangerous” box set from JPC, delivered by ParcelForce. For those interested in packaging;

1 – sturdy cardboard box secured with tape and plastic tie material
2 – box full of polystyrene niblets
3 – inner box just larger than box set
4 – bubble wrap around the box set

      1. That’s the usual packaging from jpc for these kind of items.

I assume you’re in the UK. How long did it take from shipping notification until receiving the package?

      2. Just received the same from JPC. Very impressive packaging, If they package like this all the time, I’d happily buy in confidence of getting an undamaged product.

        1. They know how to pack your vinyl super properly. German customers don’t have to pay shipping costs. When you have a Rolling Stone Magazine (German edition) subscription you also get a 8% discount from their shop on top (including reduced items).

      3. I too have just received my copy in the UK – great packaging.

For information: ordered on 19th September and despatch notification received on 28th September.

      1. It certainly did, Caroline. I paid a few pounds more for it last December. I’m still waiting though on Revolver to come down to a similar price.

  34. Eric Clapton 4cd “Eric Clapton” box set on sale for $26 on Amazon.com
Cat Stevens box set Teaser And The Firecat $49
Beach Boys Feel Flows box set now only $52

  35. The John Hughes Mixtape Superdeluxe 4 cd box Life Moves Pretty Fast on sale for $68 at Amazon.com
Also the 10cd Stevie Nicks box set Complete Albums and Rarities is on sale for $60 on the same site.

  36. Just received notification that my Thin Lizzy Live & Dangerous big box has been despatched from Jpc. I ordered one from them as I wasn’t entirely confident that my previous Amazon UK order would arrive. My Amazon order was apparently despatched 24 days ago (although no detailed tracking showing on my account). Estimated delivery date has changed from October 24th to October 4th, so maybe something is moving and I should have had more confidence.

    1. Mine too, with a DHL track and trace shipment number, which is encouraging … I found the available/not-available very-long-shipping-time Amazon offering very off-putting too if it helps, and am glad I waited and went with JPC (first time I’ve used them mind). Plus, have saved £24/£26 on the Amazon price!

      1. I order from them for more than thirty years now and am (obviously) a satisfied customer.
In the early years i regularly filled in postcards with article numbers, band names and album titles, sticked a stamp to it and put it into the next mail box, later i switched to order by fax and then, sometime in the noughties i too got internet…

I’ve literally never had an off putting experience with them, if something hasn’t worked out right you can always get in touch with them by email or phone and they come up with a solution.

        1. Thanks for the reassurance Klaus – very much appreciated. I used Rarewaves for the first time this month, and while the prices were very good their packaging was a little odd I thought; a single CD in card sleeve came in a single layer, slightly-oversized cardboard envelope offering perfectly adequate protection whereas a 2CD/Blu-ray hardback book set came only in a tight fitting plastic covering offering no protection to the corners at all. Luckily no damage done … thus my comment about the first time of have used JPC. I very much look forward to the Live & Dangerous set arriving – thanks again.

  37. Someone mentioned about a Demon records box set sale on at Rough Trade. I noticed they had the 4CD “Life Moves Pretty Fast” comp on offer, which also seems to have been reduced on Amazon UK now. However a quick check on rarewaves (my new favourite website) and they have it for £19.84. Also a couple of others showed up:
Young Limbs Rise Again – £58.99 for the CD/book deluxe
Couple of Eddie Piller presents CD sets – £15

    1. Yep thanks to you I got the Life Moves Pretty Fast one and the Steven Wilson Intrigue box set at £19.84 also as it’s £23 on Amazon which though not expensive there is even cheaper on Rarewaves where incidentally I saved over £12 on the new Dire Straits live box set on CD. I had posted twice on here about it but my comment hadn’t been put up for some strange reason.

    1. Yep, though I have this one on CD, ironically it cost £80 on CD on day of release I wanted the vinyl for collectors purposes and it’s winging its way to me as we speak. It cost me £84 to post to Northern Ireland.

      1. Hi, Stevie C, I was able to buy it in a deal for €60 plus shipping costs, €74 on Amazon France a long time ago. This price wasn’t bad either, but it didn’t last long, I hope you were lucky this time.

        1. Further update, it arrived today! By jingo that’s some size of a box set! A weighty thing too, though there are 11 180gm records in it to be fair. It’s about twice the physical size of the CD version that I bought when it was 1st released.

  38. HMV have the Who’s Next Super Deluxe for £230.00 as at today. They are also offering an immediate 20% discount code if you recomend a friend and also free postage if over £20 spent.

One email to wife, box set shipped for £184.00 > result!

    1. To be fair, the spend £20 or more at HMV for the free postage, has existed for years now. For UK customers, instore and online. I don’t suppose you get the extra 20% also, for recommending someone? Probably not.

      1. I think slade will have recommended their wife and she will have got a 20% off code to use on a new account in her name and it works for pre-orders, so you could look far ahead saving on things still to be released in one big “20% off” order. If a bank card (rather than paypal) is used for payment, they should just charge as items are released, so not a huge down payment, just charges as items are released and you can cancel pre-orders if not “in shipping stage” and you change your mind on any of them. I think the original recommender gets some kind of reward a few days later when they think the order won’t be cancelled. Not sure if that’s another 20% code. It’d be good if it was.

        1. Rich you are right, here’s the follow email I got from HMV:

Great news! Someone you introduced to hmv.com has tried us for the first time. That means we’ll be able to send you your reward soon!

Thanks for sharing us with D… D…! We’ll have your reward over to you in just a few days. This delay allows us to make sure we don’t reward orders which are later cancelled. To check the status of your reward visit your referral dashboard on your hmv.com profile.

    1. Typical Amazon numpties have a Showaddywaddy box showing instead!

Anyhow it’s just less than £20 at Rarewaves, that’s the Mull Historical Society Box Set.

    2. Every time I come on this thread it costs me money!

Managed to get this for £18.30 from music magpie on eBay with a 20% voucher offer that expires tomorrow (Thursday 28th)

      I

    1. Have to agree as I waited nearly 2 years and got SOTT by Prince on CD for I think it was around £68 so Diamonds and Pearls will definitely come down it’s just a matter of playing a waiting game.

  39. Presumably the Amazon deal on the Prince 7CD+blu-ray Diamonds and Pearls super deluxe was intended to price match Target, which is still offering this box set for $127.99 in the U.S.

  40. If anybody still hasn’t got it yet – Mansun – Attack of the Grey Lantern – 4CD Book Version. This perennial cheapie is back again at only £20 on AmazonUK

    1. Keep an eye on this – the same happened 48 hours earlier! Just a few copies from a third party seller, so they sold out quickly. But if it happened twice, it might happen again! (I posted a message here, but it was probably picked up to late to be publishable/relevant, and never made it …)

  41. Not a comment on a specific deal but an observation that the initial price of new SDEs and vinyl seem to be higher than ever, but if people can be prepared to wait (which risks an item going out of stock and being deleted), then they can buy the same box sets often at a 50% or more discount.
For example, I recently bought two Brian May SDEs (Back To The Light and Another World) for £30.99 and £31.78. When they originally came out in 2021 and 2022, their asking price was £79.99 or thereabouts. I wouldn’t be surprised if Starfleet is also available for £30/£35 in a year or so’s time.
The current difficult economic conditions – inflation, high interest rates, little or backwards GDP growth – are clearly having an impact on discretionary spending on luxury items which might be considered to include SDE box sets! For this reason I am selling down quite a lot of my vinyl and CD box sets on Discogs.

    1. For those in the UK – the total price for this including shipping to UK comes to only 65.86 Euros (about £56) – which is an absolute bargain. Something happens at checkout to reduce price (maybe removal of German taxation?). It does say parcel may be subject to import tax but as total is under £135, this shouldn’t apply.

      1. Thanks from me too Klaus … nice to see this available again, and a great price (£59.25 for me too in the UK; it keeps coming and going from Amazon UK, but when available it is always over £80).

    2. A short additional note as the information is not translated if you use the ‘Translate’-button on the item page:

It now says that currently more boxes of this set are produced and they think that they will be getting stock around the end of the month. That of course can also mean that other vendors might relist it soon, too.

  42. Eric Clapton – Nothing But The Blues Super Deluxe – just purchased from Amazon UK for £33 from third party seller (Moviemars). Amazon themselves have it also at a reasonable £51. Looks like there’s a a warehouse clearance going on somewhere…

    1. Thanks for the tip SimonP2. I’d not have gone in anywhere near full price, but it’s pretty lavish for under £35 delivered. I’ve bought from Moviemars in the past, though a while ago and it was always fine, and with added Amazon 3rd party protection.

  43. Eric Clapton – Nothing but the blues (2 LP + CD + Blu-Ray + Dvd + Libro + Póster + Juego Cuerdas Guitarra + Púas + Pañuelo Exclusivo) [Vinilo] box set at 60 € in amazon Sapin

  44. Decent price from What Records for the 2nd Mark Knopfler vinyl 9 record compilation boxset featuring 4 albums (Get Lucky,Privateering, Tracker and Down the Road Whenever ) plus a bonus record of outtakes etc. Reduced from £164 to £99.

  45. For those inclined, the Super Deluxe of Claptons Nothing But The Blues is currently 60% off on Amazon UK, leaving it at £51.76….but you can take off another fiver if you order on this blessed day (Amazon UK 25th Anniversary).

      1. Thanks for the heads-up, just ordered.

For those on the fence, that’s $30 out the door. No tax and free shipping. It’d be rude not to buy it at that price.

      1. I think the code was for yesterday – I had an email that I neglected to read until this morning with that same code but only valid till 2359 on Friday

      2. My bad, it did work. Had to be for Amazon items, despatched and sold by. Duh! Got the Gerry Rafferty City To City reissue for a tenner using a couple of vouchers. That’s more like it.

        1. I saw that City To City reissue in Fopp Edinburgh a few weeks ago, for £40. I actually laughed out loud. £40 for a single LP reissue of a 45 year old album. Is anyone seriously paying these prices??

    1. I had a stock notification off the rare waves website and ordered (again) for £139.63. Had a dispatch email last night but no tracking details provided so time will tell. Here’s hoping we’re both lucky

    1. This is very significant news as “Clutching At Straws” was very difficult to find and expensive if you did. I can’t thank you enough for the heads up! This actually made my day.

    2. Thank you so much for alerting us here to this @rumour, these are two Marillion Deluxe editions that I have been looking to purchase for a long time but the ludicrous prices always being asked were prohibitive for me so a BIG thank you once again.

    1. I have to say, amazon seems rubbish these days for “deals”. Referring to the UK site here. I’ve hardly bought anything from them in recent months. Have instead been using rarewaves, ebay and other sites who seem to have sales now and again. Amazon has just become something I use for the wishlist functionality.

      1. Very true Richard, worst year ever for deals? Only deal this year I got was for that Big Country triple live album a few weeks back, for £13.

  46. 10% off everything (Code RWSEPT10) at Rarewaves (valid until Monday 11th September). You can get the Diamond & Pearls CD Boxset for £138.74 delivered. Hope that helps someone.

    1. Nice one Squeeam – you beat me to posting about the 10%. Just for reference though, the Diamonds and Pearls CD Box Set is coming out around £130 delivered from Amazon.FR at the moment so a little cheaper than rarewaves even with the 10%. If you have already placed your rarewaves order and find Amazon.FR cheaper, they are very efficient at cancelling pre-orders at Rarewaves via logging into your account. Of interest at Rarewaves of pre-releases……The Joni Mitchell Archives 3 might be the cheapest yet at £60.84, or Hackney Diamonds CD/BluRay £37.82 or Hackney Diamonds Indies Clear Vinyl £26.15 (all prices I’ve quoted are after the 10% has been applied. Sadly Who’s Next still “sold out” following the mis-pricing debacle.

          1. Have I heard the Henry Cow albums? Yep plenty of times. I had the two box version that Fred Frith put out several years ago for the 40th anniversary but had to sell them in times of need. So this will replace those two with more content and at a cheaper price than I paid back then.

          2. I really tried to give them a chance but I couldn’t get into them.

  47. I noticed Amazon UK was selling the NOW Yearbook 1978 Extra at £5.99, which generally means they are price matching HMV. Sure enough HMV have a few of the NOW Yearbooks at reduced prices: £11.99 for the Deluxe 4CD sets and £5.99 for the Extras. Excludes the recent 92 and 73 sets though and vinyl!

  48. Was going to get the Wings Wild Life Super Deluxe Box from Amazon USA but when delivery and VAT added on its just not worth it nearly £130 no deal here I’m afraid!

  49. Really small one but for any big grunge folk out there the 2CD deluxe edition of the Singles (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is £3.96 on Amazon UK

  50. Keep an eye on the Bowie Divine Symmetry 4CD/BR box set over the next few weeks – I’ve noticed that a couple of eBay sellers have started dropping prices to sub £70 which sometimes leads to a price drop at Amazon etc.

I picked it up for £62 from one seller called Angelsam85 this week (they still have copies – currently shows as £67.99 but there’s an 8% voucher code available). FWIW that seller also has a bunch of other cheap sets – I bought the 6CD Flaming Lips Yoshimi set from them for £26 at the same time. Was a little dubious about what would show up but it turned up sealed with an HMV sticker on, so I’m not sure where they’re getting stock from.

    1. Weirdly, I was just looking at exactly the same thing last night. Didn’t realise there was an *% voucher, will have to have a look at that. I think the only thing that was mentioned was some potential “shelf wear” as it’s ex-shop stock. If that’s only on the shrink then not really a problem.

      1. Had the same hesitation but mine arrived sealed and mint in its original Warner Music box (with the original cellophane) as though I’d ordered it directly from the Dig website (exactly the same as how my Conversation Piece box arrived a few years ago when I ordered it direct).

  51. Sad news for anyone who bought into the rarewaves Who’s Next super deluxe ultra bargain, I just received a full refund for $77 Canadian. No explanation given.☹️ I did think it was all too good to be true!

    1. Not had a cancellation notice yet, but “who” knows?
I’m wondering what lay behind this deal.
Were the ads genuinely from Rarewaves and they made a mistake on pricing – if so why readvertise it again at the same price at various times and around the world!
If it was genuinely Rarewaves advertising, is it suggested they as a reputable business were selling pirated copies as the real thing; and if so, I wonder have they got cold feet after realising the adverse comments and demands for refunds that will be coming their way from the many SDE subscribers who appear to have snapped this offer up.
Of course, maybe the box sets from the original offer really have been dispatched (very early as has been pointed out) and so can’t be cancelled. If so, I and others on these pages will actually receive something or other and will definitely be going over it with a very forensic eye to see if it’s the super bargain we paid out for or a rip off.
Whatever transpires, it’s still thank you to Antonio for alerting me to a potentially jaw-dropping deal – it’s been interesting either way!

      1. Highly unlikely to be a pirate of any sort. In order to make a counterfeit of something you would need an original to copy. As it hasn’t been released yet, that would be a touch difficult.
If anyone had managed to get hold of an advance promo copy – still unlikely that copies could be brought to market before the official release.
Probably just somebody let a trainee loose on pricing

    2. It was just a mis price, Rarewaves have quite a few misprices tbh, some are honoured and some are not.
This was a super mis price and i’m not surprised they are being refunded. If you get it at the mis price that’s fantastic but can’t realistically expect it.

    1. Could be a 10CD grey area release. The thing is even if it is and you’ve paid with either or both eBay/PayPal you’re protected and you’ll get your money back. Also I’d like to bet if it is a grey area box set and you contact RareWaves they’ll refund you and tell you to keep it.

Obviously I’d like the real thing but I’m not worried either way.

      1. They just refunded my order off their website from yesterday citing technical issue and listing mistake I wonder if anyone will get them at the cheaper price ?

          1. My refund says “Unfortunately, we’ve just been advised by the manufacturer that they are no longer able to supply this item due to unexpected circumstances in their factory. ” I do smell cows and expect to see it relisted at a higher price shortly

      2. Talking of ‘grey area’ box sets, whilst looking at the Who one on Ebay I spotted the Stones Mono CD box set for £40 odd. I have the original vinyl set, but would quite like it on CD. These are clearly not kosher, but are they any good?

        1. I saw that. I was wondering the same. I did get the later boxset and so was fancying this mono box. But no way am I going to pay stupid vinyl prices now.

        2. Not condoning piracy. However, out of curiosity, I got one of these about 6 months ago. It was cheap so I just got it to play in the car. I was pleasantly surprised. Print quality is slightly sub par but to be honest if you haven’t got an original to compare it with, you probably wouldn’t know they were pirates. CDs play fine

          1. Thanks Simon. Like you, I like the artists to get paid and have always avoided these, but for £40 to play in the car etc I might give it a go.

        3. I purchased this item recently, just under £45 and everything matches the entry on discogs
The Rolling Stones – The Rolling Stones In Mono (2016, Box Set) – Discogs
The box was sealed, the inner sleeves are flimsy polythene, nothing unusual with that, and the box lid has a magnet. So I’m not suspicious and in any case a hell of a lot of effort would have gone in replicating the discs if not kosher, the matrix run outs etc match that on Discogs.
I also have a Who box in transit, estimated delivery 13-28 September, just under £46, so we will see what is delivered. With expected import duties this still represents a bargain if it turns out to be what it was advertised at.
I’ve purchased quite a few items from Rarewaves UK and got quite a few bargains. Despatch and packaging are very good.

  52. The who 10 disc set came back in stock on rarewaves ebay uk. Shipped to the USA the total came to $59.72. Theby also got more stock on their website but it was showing as GBP 130 something. This means they didn’t fix the price on ebay yet

    1. It’s £157 now on eBay including postage, but that’s still pretty low compared to where it started on Amazon. So I’ve hit the buy button and we’ll see what turns up.

  53. Ok, so here’s an oddity. You may recall that the Thin Lizzy – Live & Dangerous big box has been appearing, disappearing and reappearing on Amazon UK for a few days. It is currently still live for £82.40. It shows a delivery date of 22-24 October
Anyway, I ordered one a few days ago. I was paying some bills today and noticed that I had been charged already. Amazon policy is only to charge at time of shipping, so I queried this. Amazon say it has been shipped. It has been shipped from an “overseas territory”. So I wonder where it is coming from, and how it is being shipped, that it will take six weeks to deliver to UK.
Whilst I’m pleased that the product does at least seem to exist, I do have visions of my box set travelling across a desert on the back of a camel….

    1. Mine is due on the 24th of November SP2, shipped from Amazon UK. That camel of yours could walk to my house quicker. There must be a quiet re-press in the offing.

    2. Yeah, happened to us all this one too. Yep, keep checking the tracking as RJS says. The number of times an item has come from Spain or Germany whilst buying from Amazon UK over the years.

  54. I don’t know if it’s significant, but I got a despatch notice *and* a positive review on eBay, from rarewaves after ordering the “Who’s Next” super deluxe superdeal..

    So, maybe…

    1. Same here, but I’m still sceptical but not bothered in the least if it’s a scam. eBay and PayPal guarantee money back if it is and if it isn’t then it’s a bloody bargain.

      1. They have the same offer again. Just 10 available, but all gone now (again)..

I tried to order from ebay, but they say “item can not be shipped to Germany”… I asked them about it and they replied “we can confirm, that we send this item to Germany”…

So, when I noticed that they had the same offer again today (16:00) , I tried it again, with the same result. So no boxset for ne…

On their website you can pre-order it for 166euros…

    2. It seems you most likely got the order in and dispatched before they noticed the mis price, that’s why its always worth trying. They tend to just send out mis prices, but this was a super mis price.
Rarewaves are not fast delivery as they use cheap 3rd party handlers before Royal Mail and they are not great at packaging either.

    3. On August 25, I managed to order the box from an external seller on amazon.it (Hoppipolla) with a super discount of 78%, from 255.78 to 56.80 euros. The box has been shipped and should arrive by Monday… we’ll see…

  55. I notice that Amazon’s price for Jethro Tull Broadsword SDE (CD edition) is already about £6 less than the preorder price that I paid and my preorder hasn’t even arrived yet! So much for preorder price guarantee.
I shall be ordering again and returning the more expensive of the two.

      1. You’re right, I’ve just received said email.
In the past I’ve received an email telling me how much I saved but this time they charged the higher amount but are now refunding the difference.

      1. Hi Stephen dC, I’m guessing now it is £87 and 7% off, that £28 and 70% off was a temporary mispricing with an extra zero on the discount. It was there for a while, but I’m guessing as soon as we notify and Paul he does a deal alert and the SDE massive pile in, that the Amazon algorithm alerts someone to check the listing. £28 isn’t ridiculous and I’m sure there’s still profit in there, but it’s more a year or two into release type price, than a month hence. The very nature of time delays getting comments approved, getting notifications out can often mean things seem out of date by the time we see them.

        1. Yes, was gone when I checked. I don’t understand why every comment here has to be manually approved. Surely it would be easier to allow all comments through and then delete anything inappropriate – say a quick review daily.

          1. What has this deal going quickly got to do with how quickly comments are approved? Also, Paul, I don’t come to your workplace and tell you how to do your job, so maybe you could extend me the same courtesy.

          2. Paul, it’s not a criticism. I realise you have to approve comments for legal / spam reasons and you can’t be sat there all day staring at the screen approving everything in real time. Whether a “deal” is a mistake or time limited, or limited to a certain number of copies, if an SDE reader spots it, they will buy a copy themselves, then possibly post a comment on SDE, which takes time to write, then it needs approving, then there’s however long it takes for someone to revisit the Deal page to notice the comment or if you have to do a special post, it all takes time. The clock on the deal is potentially running down during all these stages, that is a fact, not a criticism. It’s a free service from SDE which helps loads of us “save” or more likely “spend” ;-) and you win some, you lose some and we’re very grateful for it. Obviously regularly reviewing the deal page means you’re more likely to win some!

          3. The point you’re missing is that the clock isn’t ticking beforehand, really. Once the deal/comment is published that’s when the clock starts ticking because everyone jumps on the deal. Before that time few people will know about it. Therefore any “delay” in publishing a deal comment isn’t likely to cause anyone to miss out. People missed out on the Stevie Nicks post because it ended about 2 mins after publication not because the comment wasn’t published quickly enough.

          4. To be fair, I don’t believe that the moderation impacted on the Stevie Nicks deal given that it was obviously very short-lived.

On a general point, the basic WordPress platform has kept 100% of spam / bot comments off my site since 2014 (albeit the traffic is in no way comparable to SDE). And regarding the “legal issues” point made by others – I’m not sure if that’s a real risk given that plenty music discussion boards operate with instant posting and the US equivalent The Second Disc also permits same. It can be frustrating when you take the trouble to type up a non-contentious response (praising a reissue, answering a query regarding missing mixes etc) and then it remains unpublished.

However this is Paul’s site so obviously he is free to run it the way he wants and I apologise for any upset or offence caused – it was not intentional.

          5. To be fair, opening up comments as instantly publishable really opens the way for spam bots to flood the site and cripple the system. They do this automatically with no regard to site context in some cases so it’s a genuine risk. I don’t want to see loads of posts about how people have money to rest in my account thanks. It would totally kill the vibe and quality of this site.

In addition the instant publish approach potentially opens up legal issues (or at least costs) for Paul as he could be seen/considered as the publisher of any unsavoury and/or offensive comments. That’s a risk not worth taking I imagine.

There is a way to build in pre-post checks using third parties but again that includes costs for those tools and costs to integrate them. They are also not fool proof so again it doesn’t remove all risk.

To be honest, considering the content of the comments and the site theme/purpose I feel the current approach is fine and appreciate the site just being here.

        2. The manual approval of posts also gives us some security when clicking links to deals, it’s nice to know that you can just follow the link without worrying about landing on a scam site.

      2. Glitch or no glitch, they’ve honoured it. Box has arrived this morning (in the UK). £87 would be well overpriced for what it is! It’s a £30-40 box in my view. But I realise the industry no longer agrees with my view these days … Still, gla dto have picked this up – thanks Rich G for sharing! (and thanks SDE for being shared on)

    1. Thanks Rich G.
Living in Australia, 95% of these deal alerts aren’t available to me, however, I couldn’t miss out on this one. I managed to get one and have it shipped to my daughter in the UK. I just need to wait until we catch up early next year. Thanks again for the tip off.

    1. Intriguing! It surely must be a mistake. It’s still there at that price but now showing Sold Out. I really hope someone managed to bag a copy at that price!

    2. It’ll be interesting to know if they fulfil at that price as it’s less than 20% of everyone else’s list. May be a loss leader at 5 copies or a mistake. Good luck to those that got in.

    3. I hopefully bagged one last night from rarewaves on eBay as a U.S. Import copy, still for £45 with free postage!
As a point of interest (to me at least), IF it turns up, will I possibly be hit for import duty based on a purchase price of £45 when it’s really a £250 box set?
I will wait with bated breath to find out!

      1. You can only be charged on what you paid (inc. shipping) for an item. So the most you can be charged on this £9 VAT/Customs charge & maybe the Royal Mail wanting around £10. So a total price of £64 for an item currently selling for £230 is a no-brainer!

That’s if you, like myself, get it.

      2. @doadie have you received your boxset yet? I ask only because I ordered from rarewaves US (via ebay) on the 30th August and i received a dispatch notification the following day stating an estimated delivery no later than the 28th September.

    4. Ditto!! I read this and immediately pounced and bought one from Rarewaves US, i now wait with bated breath to see if they honour it at that price.

      1. Same here, managed to purchase one of the ten available from Rarewaves US as of last evening. Just had an email to say it’s been despatched. I thought it wasn’t due to be released until 15th Sept, so it will be interesting to see what arrives…

  56. For fans of garage rock, rockabilly and doo wop, the Norton Records label is having a 50% off sale on its entire stock. They had a bit of a bumpy start yesterday with some shopping cart glitches, but it seems to be working smoothly now.

    nortonrecords.com

  57. Rough Trade UK have the George Michael Older big box down to £99 in their sale. They are also offering a further 10% off taking it down to £90

    1. That IS a pretty good deal. Just before I clicked “purchase” at Amazon.de, I decided to check Amazon.com as I live in America. $47.51. With shipping, it was actually $0.30 cheaper than Amazon.de. Thanks, pethead, for the heads-up!

Update: £28.17 at Amazon.co.uk. Wish I lived in the UK, but what can I do?

    1. The big problem with ordering from Amazon US is the packaging. They have stopped using cardboard boxes for overseas orders. So dents, scuffs and gouges are regular.

      1. I know some people have taken to checking the “This item is a gift” box when ordering, which seems to get Amazon to use a cardboard box. Not sure if that works for non-US orders, though. Anybody tried that?

        1. Yes. It does work. From Amazon US to UK. I bought a CD box set – Rolling Stones Mono albums. The box they sent it in was sturdy – stronger than the usual Amazon UK boxes. However, the box was oversize and regrettably no packaging material inside whatsoever, so still some minor damage from transit.

          1. It only works sometimes, I’ve still had ‘gift’ orders arrive in brown paper bags & as you mention even when it’s in a box theres often no packing inside so the product is rattling around inside the box. Amazon is always a lottery.

    2. Wow, those are great prices on Amazon US right now. Note also Nirvana’s Nevermind 8LP+7” Single is $119.99, which is over 50% off list and the lowest price I have seen anywhere.

      1. Weirdly enough, the US $47 5CD “Nevermind” set is being sold by a company called Belushi Ltd. and supposedly ships from the UK. Make of that what you will.

    3. It’s worth noting those deals may not be deals depending on where you live. I’ve noticed a new strategy Amazon are employing at any given time where the price may appear normal or discounted in different locations of the USA.
