Def Leppard’s Diamond Star Halos issued on SDE-exclusive blu-ray

#16 in the SDE Surround Series

Features a Steven Wilson Dolby Atmos Mix, unheard instrumental version, rare bonus tracks and more • Quick pre-order link

Def Leppard’s 2022 studio album Diamond Star Halos will be the next release, on blu-ray audio, in the ongoing SDE Surround Series.

The 15-track long-player includes the singles ‘Kick’, ‘Fire It Up’ and ‘Take What You Want’ and features guest vocals from Alison Krauss on two tracks: ‘This Guitar’ and ‘Lifeless’. The album – the band’s 12th – was co-produced by Ronan McHugh and was a critical and commercial success, peaking in the top 10 of both the UK and US album charts.

The new forthcoming SDE-exclusive blu-ray edition will feature a Steven Wilson Dolby Atmos Mix of Diamond Star Halos, which is the first time this spatial audio mix has been available on a physical product. It will also include an exclusive instrumental version, the standard stereo mix and two rare bonus tracks, unreleased physically outside of Japan (‘Angels Can’t Help You Now – Stripped Version (Covent Garden Mix)’ and ‘This Guitar – Joe Only Version’).

Blu-ray content summary:

  • Steven Wilson Dolby Atmos Mix of Diamond Star Halos
  • Exclusive Instrumental Mix (48/24 stereo) of Diamond Star Halos
  • Original Stereo Mix (48/24) of Diamond Star Halos
  • Two rare bonus tracks in stereo (48/24), previously unreleased outside of Japan

This Def Leppard blu-ray audio is No 16 in the ongoing SDE Surround Series and will be packaged in the same style as previous releases in the series and ships with a free, collectible SDE Surround Series slipcase with the number ’16’ on the spine.

Here’s the now traditional reminder as to why this blu-ray comes highly recommended:

  • It’s the only way to enjoy the Dolby Atmos mix of the album via a physical product
  • You don’t need to sign-up to a streaming service such as Tidal or Apple Music to hear the spatial audio mix
  • The Atmos Mix on the Blu-ray is not compressed due to streaming bandwidth restrictions
  • You own the product, you are not renting it from a digital service provider
  • The Blu-ray audio is an excellent format for music and you don’t want to see it die off
  • Supporting SDE with these initiatives is leading to similar collaborations with labels/artists and we are keen to bring your more in the near future!

The SDE-exclusive Blu-ray Audio of Diamond Star Halos is a limited edition item. It will be pressed based on demand and is available to pre-order for 14 days only. Availability after that cannot be guaranteed, so secure your copy today by pre-ordering at the SDE shop, either directly via this link or using the special SDE shop buy button (‘add to cart’) below.

We ship worldwide and there’s no longer any extra charges to the EU (if the value of your order is less than €150).

This SDE-exclusive blu-ray of Diamond Star Halos will be released on 23 February 2024 (was 12 January) via Mercury/UMR.

TECHNICAL NOTES: This blu-ray audio requires a blu-ray player. Decoding the Dolby Atmos mix requires a Dolby Atmos-certified soundbar or a Dolby Atmos-compatible AV Receiver/Amp. The Dolby Atmos mix will ‘fold down’ to 5.1 or stereo if a Dolby Atmos decoder is not detected.

  1. Thanks for this, Paul – got it yesterday and really enjoyed the Dolby Atmos mix! I am a die-hard Leppard fan and follow them through thick and thin, but DSH’s is their best album for many a year – they sound so energised (and Take What You Want is such a strong opener…)! Thanks also for this continuing series – it’s a total pleasure to get such a diverse array of albums in this format.

  2. Ordered! This is a good chance for me to have a DL album! I like this shift towards this type of rock. It makes this series even more precious. Thanks Paul.

  3. This series manages to get better all the time. Not a real surprise as I remember hints being dropped round about the time of the orchestral album, but a real treat nonetheless. Now I just hope you sell enough to make the band think about Hysteria, or even a set of the three “classic” albums on one disc / in a box!!

  4. I miss the surround mix of their earlier classic albums Pyromania, Hysteria and Adrenalize. I t would be great to hear them in Dolby Atmos.

I’ve always been surprised that Def Leppard didn’t have any albums with surround mixing yet, especially because of the style of their music, with so many effects. Well, they recently released the covers with orchestra album. But it took them a long time to decide. I hope it doesn’t take long for them to release their classics in Dolby Atmos. It would be great.

  5. Ordered! I only know the band by name but don’t have any of their albums. The SDE Blu-ray surround series is also for me about discovering new music.

  6. Great addition to the series! Is there now a way to work around the new feature that the payment currency is directly transferred into Euros at a really bad exchange rate in the SDE shop?

  7. excellent addition to the series, and – alongside my Drastic Symphonies – the second atmos Lep album in my collection. Any chance of getting the rare as hens teeth colour cover for the Blu Ray Paul? I realise the black and white is what everyone knows… but… :)

  8. I’ve been a long time fan of Def Leppard for the last 40 years and have all their albums. I love this album. When it came out last year, I played it many, many times on a daily basis, and I can’t remember the last time doing that that for one of their albums (maybe Retro Active?). Ordered immediately. Congrats Paul on this SDE series as well as the diversity of musical styles that it offers.

  9. What we need is a SDEio atmos box set, as in the Chicago Quadio box set. The Rhino Quadio bundle is more flexible as an offer, but there was something great in having an artists whole collection, or at least a chunk of it, as a box set.

  10. Excellent addition to the series…have the first 13 with #14 (Trevor Horn) & #15 (Soft Cell) next in the queue…longtime Def Leppard fan & knowing all their albums, I think this DSH is up there in their best 5 albums (the other 4 being Hysteria, Pyromania, Slang & maybe High N Dry, with Yeah!! being a bonus selection as it’s not originals but a great fun covers album), really great material & really catchy hooks…the production is stellar as well, which is amazing considering it was done during the pandemic, writing/collaborating over ZOOM calls & everyone recording their parts separately in their home setups & each sending their files to their producer, who then put the tracks together like a big puzzle…it sounds like the band recorded it in one room!!

  11. Glad you are releasing a wide variety of popular music genres but this is another I will likely pass on as it doesn’t meet my SDE Surround Series purchasing criteria of being an album I know, or a new album by an artist I like, or an album I should like based on my existing likes. I’ll give it a go on Apple Music to confirm.

Long live the SDE Surround Series!

    1. On the topic of musical diversity, I hope to see (and hear) some black artists added to the series. And more women please. I like the Pyromania / Hysteria / Adrenalize period. I need to listen to Hackney Diamonds & Pearls Star Halos first before I decide on this one.

  12. Was hoping for Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D’Arby, but this will do. Now, if only something else I want pops up on theSDEShop within the pre-order window that I could toss in with this to spread the shipping costs a bit …

  13. Very impressive, Mr. Sinclair!Congratulations on building an impressively broad catalog, and a reputation for quality that makes high-profile artists happy to be involved (and of course, music fans happy to listen to/buy them)!
I have to admit, this particular one’s not one I’m very interested in – but I always looking forward to what gets announced, because I’ve been at least tempted by 90% of them.

  14. How about the recently “released” streaming atmos of INXS ‘New Moon, Dirty Hearts’. Such an amazing sounding album. The video album as well has been remastered and would be stunning to have both audio and visual on bluray.

  15. Congratulations Paul! This is fantastic news and ordered immediately!
I love your SDE series but currently don’t have any means to play these editions so have only purchased this and Suede debut as hopefully one day I’ll get myself sorted.
The album is brilliant and really does deserve a few plays for those who are not sure. Their Wembley gig was brilliant too (not so Motley Crue)!!
Keep up the great work Paul – by far and away my most favourite site which I visit several times a day

  16. Hmmm, not sure about this. I have the album on CD , listened once and filed it away. Would have prefered Hysteria with all the remixes as on the Deluxe CD version.. Also I would have prefered the last few Iron Maiden albums in this format.

  17. This is absolutely brilliant ! I have a few titles I hope will be released in this format (Grace Jones – Slave to the rhythm, Grace Jones – Hurricane & dub, Frankie Goes to Hollywood – Hard on: the hits, Alison Goldfrapp – The love invention) but this one definately was on my list as well.

Even a stereo instrumental track, what a big treat this disc will be ! Very strong album, excellent choice !!!

Oh, Kylie’s Disco would be amazing as well…… Keep ‘m coming Paul !!!

  18. I don’t have any clever audio setup, just normal stereo, so I am not really the target market for these. I bought this because… the collector completist in me has to have the instrumentals even if like the Slang Deluxe there will be an element of “one listen and done”!

    1. I was much the same when I bought Jean Michel Jarre’s Aero CD/DVD many moons ago. Eventually my system caught up as I upgraded bit by bit.

So even though I have bought a few SDE’s series I never got the full effect until recently. When my set up was complete I was blown away by what I was missing. Patience has its virtues.

Further down the line when it’s out of stock and on eBay for £stoopid, it gives you another warm and fuzzy moment.

      Long live SDE!

  19. I’ve been hoping for this one since it got a streaming release….and then we also get an instrumental version and 2 bonus tracks!!!! Outstanding!!!! I know some people may not have bothered to give this album a listen upon release but I really loved it. Loads of catchy songs on it and I think their best album in a number of years. This was an instant purchase.

  20. With the announcement elsewhere on this site re the anniversary re-release of ‘Stay Together’, I half expected the next SDE blu-ray to be Dog Man Star!

  21. At last! Great news.
I really enjoyed the orchestral Blu-ray album from earlier in the year, looking forward to this even more
    Thanks again, Paul

  22. Awesome! Nice to see some Rawk in the series and maybe some Maiden too?
Also, does anyone think any of the Japan catalog would be a cracking choice, especially Quiet Life to Tin Drum era.
