  1. question for anyone who has gotten the box of hackney with the blu-ray with atomos.
looking at the outside of package and states stereo and atmos. sorry for my nativity but if my receiver is not atmos will it still fold down to 5.1 like the SDE exclusives do? i also noticed the upcoming seal II states stereo & atmos (but states no 5.1). so i guess my question is will something that just has stereo and atmos still fold down to 5.1? thx

  2. The 2CD version of REM’s New Adventures In Hifi is £10 on Amazon UK.

And the 3CD/DVD of Paul Draper’s Cult Leader Tactics is £20

  3. Weirdly, rarewaves are also selling the Electribe 101 signed Amazon exclusive cheaper than Amazon (only a couple of quid), but with the 10% off this weekend, you can get it for under £30.

  4. Rarewaves have a 10% off offer over the Easter weekend. RWEASTER10 is the code. For UK buyers this provides the opportunity to pre-order the Bowie Rock n’ Roll Star SDE for an inviting £115. It was already competitively priced at £128. Shipping included.
I’ve used Rarewaves a few times. Releases can take a few days to deliver but packaging has always been robust.

  5. This weekend, Rarewaves RWEASTER10 Code gets you 10% of purchases over £20, so for instance David Bowie Rock ‘n’ Roll Star 5CD/BluRay Box is £115.13.

    1. Yeah Wayne C, I feel your pain – I paid the £56. It’s just a lottery. I kind of forget about all the sets I buy at full price when discounted 2 years later, but 2 days later smarts a bit, bit it’ll bounce back up to £95 anytime I guess. I just used Super Saver delivery and it was due Thurs, but they rushed it to me next day (Tues), often happens when they are dropping the price soon, to stop the “cancel and re-order while waiting for despatch”. I guess we have to also think about how much “Life” we spend watching the Amazon price alterations. If we notionally pay ourselves minimum wage, is it really worth looking for an hour of our time flicking to amazon (5mins an hour for waking hours 2 days straight say), to save £6. That’s how I’m thinking about it.

      1. Last week Amazon UK played ‘chicken’ with the Tillerman SDE, starting at £50 or so, and dropping £5 every couple of days, bottoming out around £35 at the end of last week. The Mona Bone Jakon SDE is not as good (Plumpton is historically significant but coming from a cassette not really listenable) and there are reports the 2020 mix vinyl has not been pressed the best. I’m waiting. If I miss out, I miss out, but feel happier getting this for the same as I got Tillerman £35. And Rich G, I find it harder to forget the Who’s Next box halved it’s price after three months!!

        1. flyingv, I think you’re probably on a good call. I got caught out on the Who’s Next as well. I waited a bit after release date before ordering, but it started to appear to go out of stock in places after all those rarewaves and ebay deals which sometimes didn’t come off, so I took an Amazon.FR plunge at about £220 only to watch everyone scoop at £110 shortly after. Cruel!

        2. I wonder why the other SDE box “Teaser” hasn’t moved at all from the £135. Do you think it’s due to the pressing problem on the vinyl meaning they haven’t done anymore of those. I was hoping that also would take a downwards direction price wise, but it seems to be stubbornly staying near full retail price.

          1. Wayne C, maybe as you say there aren’t as many. I think that is the first one they also did a CD-only SDE as well, which is nearly as Deluxe, but a thinner though still 12″ Box (thick slip case), so maybe they haven’t the quantity to shift as sales will be split across formats. I don’t know if this means that the series could stall before “Catch Bull At Four” if it’s losing money. That’d be a shame as these really are very impressive sets in presentation and content.

          2. Let’s hope so, and hopefully the third one will decrease to these low price levels

          3. Looks like your fear is justified. A remastered Catch Bull At Four came out in Dec 2022 and was only a single CD.

          4. I think it did stall by the time of ‘Catch Bull At Four’ wasn’t this a LP only reissue?

I picked up the ‘Teaser’ 5CD SDE for just over £30 at Rarewaves UK, as did a few other visitors to this site.

  6. HMV on eBay have the 30th In Utero vinyl box for £120, and I’m running out of room, any of the SDE gang got this ? Seems a fab deal

  7. Elbow have added an extended version of their new album on CD to their website for £6.99 (+£2.50 postage). Just 2 extra live tracks, so not essential if you already bought the standard edition.

Deeply cynical chart manipulation but if you haven’t ordered the album yet, it’s a decent price.

  8. Cat Stevens’ Mona Bone Jakon 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Box Set currently less than £56 on Amazon UK.
Will look great next to Tea For The Tillerman grabbed for £36 last week.

    1. Yeah have pulled the trigger myself. I think this is the lowest this particular set has been and all these sets are doing that silly “Bounce” thing Amazon do, doubling the price after bottoming out. We’re on a 12 hour countdown to the end of “Spring Deal”, so that might be the end for now in terms of discounting, though I’ll keep my eye and cancel and re-order (if I get chance) if it moves a few more pounds today.

    2. Thanks for that, I was watching the box set and it was £66 or so since Friday and has dropped a further £10 so you cannot complain at £56 for sure these are such good quality.

      1. jr7936 That is impressive. Never saw that when checking before buying today. Is it the one with the Vinyl and CD or the just CD? Well done in either event!

        1. So it said best offer.
The starting bid was $25 + 12 shipping and i offered him $25. Surprizingly he took it
I wasnt sure what was going to arrive.
The listing was for the super deluxe but the description just said 2 lps.
When i got it, it was sealed with vinyls + cds + blu ray + book and swag for $39.59 shipped
          Seller is Kasba2

  9. Athlete – Vehicles & Animals 20th Anniversary 4CD is £12.70 on Amazon DE. That’s an outrageously good price if you’re in Germany and still the cheapest you’ll find it if you’re in the uk.

    1. This has dropped another £1 on Amazon DE to £11.50, so it now costs £14.66 delivered to the UK (which is by far the cheapest it’s been so far in europe as far as i can tell).

  10. The Now Presents Disco set above is actually £60 on HMV with the deal40 code. Of even more interest to many here might be the Now Presents Electronic 5 vinyl set which you can get for £54 there using the same code.

  11. Worth noting that Amazon UK seem to have temporarily sold out their allocation of In Utero Super Deluxe but HMV are still selling the box for £107 on their website (use code DEAL40) and £99.99 on their eBay store.

The DEAL40 thing on the HMV website is worth exploring a bit.

Soft Cell – Non Stop Cabaret 6CD box is £44.99, which is about as cheap as it’s been over in the UK I think.
All of the Tom Waits 2023 remasters are in the sale (so the CDs are £9, LPs £21-£24)
    The Who’s Who’s Next 50th Anniversary 2CD is £7.80
Elton John – Honky Chateau 50th Anniversary 2CD is £7.80

  12. Haven’t been following the price of this one but it seems like a decent price (think it started at about £98). The Ace Of Base Beautiful Life – The Singles (26CD) set is £69.

  13. Two more good prices at the HMV ebay store – Aerosmith’s new 4LP Best of £75 (lowest I’ve seen on Amazon £90) and Frank Sinatra Platinum 4xLP Remastered comp £80 (currently £120 on Amz)

  14. Just an FYI – that Dire Straights Live CD box is £31 on Amazon IT (so ever so slightly cheaper than the UK even with the postage)

The 12LP vinyl version has had a huge amount knocked off it too – down to £110 on Amazon UK.

  15. For US SDE lovers: amazon.com has big spring sale: Dio 5 vinyl box 71.00, Rush Moving Pictures big box down to 155.00, Def Leppard Vinyl box 3 for 49.00. Lots of Zappa boxes and so much more that I am unable to list it here. Go, check it out!

  16. For anyone interested in Neil young’s “before & after” it’s £16 for the cd edition on Amazon uk whereas a seller on eBay is offering sealed copies of the cd & Blu-ray for £12 with free postage.

    1. I got it off the same seller on ebay and bartered him down as he has a best offer thing down from £12 to £10 for Neil Young plus I got a couple of other reggae CDs of the same seller little cheaper by bartering with the same dude. Result!

  17. Rolling Stones – Hackney Diamonds 2CD is down to £7.99 on Amazon UK

    Tricky – Maxinquaye 2CD is £10

Nirvana – In Utero 30th 5CD Super Deluxe is £98 (the 2CD version is £7.99)

  18. Rolling Stones in Mono color box set $284 on Amazon US. It is also showing a 20% off coupon, but I believe those coupons are not always available to all.

  19. Thanks got this for my mum who’s a fan of Cat Stevens, she always gives the family her rendition of Moonshadow when she’s had a few to many !. Priceless !.

  20. Now Presents Disco – 5 Magenta LP is now at it’s lowest price on Am.uk It started at £99.99 and has hovered around the mid / upper 80, came down to £74 and now sits at £66.66

    https://amzn.to/3INf93C

Tracklisting is superb, if you are in to this kind of thing. I’ve ordered one at that price it was hard to resist after months of playing chicken.
btw the Amazon tracklisting is, as usual incorrect and Paul’s rundown of the tracks is here

    https://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/now-presents-disco/

    1. Bought the TFTT box for £44 last week – so contacted Amazon today and got an £8 refund (rather than returning the original and re-ordering).

  21. The who-who’s next/life house 50th anniversary Blu-ray/CD boxset currently £116.18p on Amazon UK (as of 01:54 am on the 20th March)

  22. Received my beach boys sail on sailor box set yesterday and on playing it and reading the book I noticed that pages 34 to 39 are missing. Is anybody else’s box the same?

    1. For £23 I can live with it, I bought it to enjoy the music and 3 missing pages of track listings and photos is not the end of the world. I was just curious if others had the same problem.

      1. That £10 is for the 3 disk set (1BD plus 2CD) and is good value. The four disk set (with a large book and an added BD of a full Salt Lake City concert) which was £16 for the last couple of weeks is back up to around £40.

        1. I ordered it yesterday and it was£9.86.looks to be the four disc version going by the description but even it’s the three disc version it’s still worth it.ill let y’all know when it arrives today.

          1. Stones bigger bang arrived today.12×12 size box.2 CDs and 2 DVDs.neither of the dvds are Blu-ray.only£9.86.doubt if I’ll get a better deal than this.

  23. Yesterday I ordered the Beach Boys at that ridiculously low price. It arrived today, but unfortunately just packed in a brown bag/envelope and it looks like it’s been dropped on one of the corners. I’m returning it for a replacement but that’s going to take between 2 and 6 weeks to arrive. Hopefully that one will be packaged better.

  24. Though not as good a bargain as “tea for the tillerman” box set, rarewaves uk have “teaser and the fire cat” 4 cd & Blu-ray super deluxe set for £26.82. It is listed as cd only, although the product information says 5 discs and the track listing for disc 5 corresponds with the Blu-ray track list. I’ve ordered it anyway.

          1. Just received it, your in for a surprise when you get yours. A wonderful big box containing 4 CDs, a Blu-ray & a 108 page book. The Blu-ray has 21 live tv performances as well as a hi-res remaster of the album. Exceptional value for £26.

  25. Duly ordered.Thanks Paul.Insane price.The 2-CD set on the same site £20.79.So,four extra CDs for £2.10 more.Bonkers,but wondrous !!

      1. Me too. I got it from Germany I think, via an SDE deal, but over twice this price. Haven’t seen Feel Flows at anything like this price.

  26. My Tea For The Tillerman order came today. This has to be the bargain of ‘24, an LP, 12” EP, 5 CDs and a Blu-ray. Not forgetting a 12”x12” hardback book and trinkets for those who like these things. All in a beautiful sturdy box with magnetic lid all for less than 40 English Quids.

Thanks Breffni for the tip. The Mona box arrives tomorrow. I also got Jethro Tulls RökFlöte 2CD/Bluray for £19 and Zealot Gene 2CD/Bluray for £12. I don’t know what the price was on release but these are bargains. All from Amazon UK AKA The Dodgers.

    1. The ‘Mona Bone Jakon’ box arrived this evening. Besides being absolute bargains these Cat Stevens SDE sets are very likely the best presented sets I own and. I own a lot of sets of this kind. Also the dedicated packaging for these sets is great.

While these sets are absolute bargains I reckon we’ll see less of this type of release due to them not selling. Maybe if the record companies saw sense and sold them at a reasonable price on release they would sell a lot more.

      1. Totally agree with you Golden Age. The Cat Stevens sets are extremely well put together and the packaging, second to none. Also love the “cloth” type feel of the outer box.

  27. The Rolling Stones Hackney Diamonds CD + Blu Ray Audio Box Set (the book one with the lenticular cover) is down to £30.16 on Amazon UK this morning … still a lot, but a lot better than the original £54 …

  28. Hi Paul, I just was about to order The Pink Floyd ‘Animals’ Atmos Blu-ray but £7+ for shipping!?!?!? No way!

      1. Cost to Ireland is always crazy as it’s a higher fee than 5, and then we also get hit with import tax. Is there no way to avoid the tax charges- we don’t pay any tax from Amazon uk on anything under 150

  29. The Cat Stevens super deluxe sets for Tea for The Tillerman and Mona Bone Jakon are both £56 on Amazon UK which feels as cheap as they’ve been.

  30. 2 fantastic deals on Amazon….. Black Sabbath Hand of Doom super deluxe box set down to £170 from £220.
The massive Frankie Valli & 4 seasons 44CD deluxe box set , once £350 now £199.99 . Possibly deal of the year?

  31. PSBs – Smash (3CD + 2BR) is down to £31 on Amazon UK (sold by Global Deals). There is also someone on ebay selling for £30, with just a couple left. Though if you haven’t already got the replacement BR you’ll end up with the censored one I guess…
Also on Amazon they dropped the price of the Waterboys 1985 big box set to £72, but delivery between 1 & 3 months, which to me smacks of “not a chance”.

  32. Couple of things on Amazon UK

Eric Clapton – Eric Clapton 50th Anniversary 4CD is £17.50
    Frank Zappa – 200 Motels 6CD is £39.50
Rolling Stones – Tattoo You 2CD is £7.28
Haim – Days Are Gone 10th Anniversary 2CD is £9.43

  33. A bit off the beaten track this as it’s not a deal about a current release, but a fairly old release. I’ve just bought on eBay an original 1st issue (new and sealed) of Marvin Gaye’s “the master” 4 cd set with 120 page book housed in an 11″ x 11″ box. I don’t know if these sets are rare or commonplace but it cost me just £13.50 inc. p+p. Rarewaves through eBay have them for £20, taking into account a discount. Someone else may be more informed about this release than I am.

    1. I’ve had this one for years. I don’t think it’s particularly rare or valuable but it’s a great compilation. My advice is to open it and enjoy it

    2. This set was originally released in the US and in Europe in 1995 as a 10″ x 6″ sized book with 4 cd trays on the inner pages of front and back cover.

It was then rereleased in the UK and Europe in 2004 as a digi book with different cover art. Two years later the release you just bought, a so called ear book was manufactured in Germany, obviously in high quantities because it’s been available for several years now in original shrink wrap for about 10€ round here.

There were also several other 4-6 cd sets rereleased around the same time in ear book style including e.g ‘Message In A Box’ by The Police, ‘Direction, Reaction, Creation’ by The Jam and ‘Simply… Dusty’ by Dusty Springfield that all were (or in some cases are still) sold for a tenner after some years.

So it’s nothing you’ll buy as an investment but of course there is still mostly great music featured on these releases so it’s either a rather cheap way to complete your collection of an artists’ work or a great introduction if you haven’t owned anything by them so far.

      1. I loved those earBooks from Germany. I have about six of these and even before price reductions, they were a great buy. Great packaging and of course great music. Also available at the time was Thin Lizzy’s Vagabonds Kings Warriors Angels and Stevie Wonder’s At The Close of The Century.

    3. This set turns up every now and then very cheap. I paid £10 for it new in shrinkwrap in Fopp a few years ago. It’s a great set, recommended.

  34. The Diamonds and Pearls deal is on and off on Amazon UK. If you can’t get it on the UK site, try the other European ones. I just picked one up for £106 delivered to Scotland from the Italian site.

      1. Just looked on Amazon uk, although the price has gone up 3 quid to £49.06, there’s 10 copies available. Hope this is of help to you.

      2. Now back on for a slightly higher £49.06 and not much of a discount but HAWKWIND Space Ritual 50th anniversary box set available for £92.99

  35. I’ve been after that Prince SDE since it was announced, but couldn’t justify the price. Not that I thought it was extortionate, I just couldn’t personally justify spending that kind of money at the time. This was a rare occasion where an SDE Alert alerted me to something I was actually after! I nearly passed on it anyway, as I never finished listening to the Sign O’ The Time SDE (was never in the right mood to listen to the live CDs) so wasn’t sure I could justify spending £100 on another Prince Box Set I may not listen to in it’s entirety – however good the value. But then I remembered I had a £50 Amazon Gift Voucher I was saving for something else and suddenly it became a no-brainer. Effectively spending £50 on a £150 box set. Pulled the trigger and it will be here on Monday.

Looking again this morning, it’s already back up to £155 so think I made the right call and got the timing right. Thanks so much for the heads up on this one :)

  36. I received an email from Super Deluxe Editions with regard the Diamond And Pearls box set being priced at £99 on Amazon and ordered it straight away, as before that it was £110.00, which was tempting. Lucky I did take up the offer, because the price has now gone up to £152.06. Thanks Paul and SDE for letting us know about the deal. :o)

  37. I posted this in the Feb deals but it didn’t get approved – trying again as it’s such a great deal.

    Vehicles & Animals: 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition – 4 CDs – $9.48 NOW $8.94 CAD on amazon.ca. I received my copy so it’s valid https://amzn.to/3V8stqD

    1. I’m still waiting for this one to drop in price over here in Europe as it’s stayed pretty stubbornly close to its release price. That’s a great deal for a really under-appreciated set.

  38. re the Diamonds and Pearls deal on Amazon UK from third-party seller Techrina. I was flipping and flopping on this one over the weekend, when the price was doing similar (jumping between £100 and £110 at various times). When it went back down to £100 on Monday, I went for it. The package arrived today (Wednesday) via Royal Mail Tracked 24. Well-packaged in a plastic mailer, bubble-wrap and, most importantly, in the original bespoke cardboard packaging (similar to the SOTT set). Brand-new shrink-wrapped box set. Very happy.

  39. The 3rd volume of the Sound Of Philadelphia series (the 8CD/1×12″ The Sound Of Philadelphia: Love Is The Message box) is down to £59.99.

Volumes 1 and 2 are also now down to £39.99

    1. Thanks Matt. These things are great packages (although maybe a little Billy Paul heavy). However, Vol 3 took so long to come out that I had lost the desire to continue with the series. This price drop has rekindled that desire. Grab the lot if you can, Readers.
