The latest news on the Why Pink Floyd? reissues
Official confirmation via this new Dark Side of the Moon Immersion Box Set video (below) that the stereo and quad mixes of the album will be appearing on the DVD and in hi-res on the Blu-ray discs – something exclusively revealed by superdeluxeedition.com back in early July via our Andy Jackson Q&A
Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here Hybrid multi-channel SACD, which does not form part of the Immersion Edition, is available for pre-order from Acoustic Sounds. They ship internationally.
Mojo Magazine’s October Issue (out 23rd August in the UK) is available as a 10,000 run Pink Floyd Vinyl Edition featuring a 12-inch gatefold vinyl version of Return To The Dark Side Of The Moon and new interviews with David Gilmour and Nick Mason. Also available on CD.

Here is a nice preview, including a live Us and Them from 1974! http://www.prx.org/pieces/67381-why-pink-floyd
SACD? DVD-A? Well why not an Elcaassette or a tin-foil cylinder? Everyone dropped the ball when no one remembered that the Red Book gave the Compact Disc 4 discrete channels.
So what we have now is someone’s best guess as to what it should be, or a hissy matrix of what was.
Forget the diatribe of the lost art of quadraphonic; either being in the middle of a live performance to being in the middle of a studio recording, but I must ask again this:
Will the discrete 4 channel 1975 master of WWYH be reproduced, or will it be someone’s “new and improved gee whiz and even better” 5.1 mix be released? Will the SACD be “identical” to the CD/Blu-ray releases?
In addition, yea, I’ve heard the Animals quad; I am pretty sure it’s the discrete mix, there’s a pretty accurate Meddle out there, and I know the AHM quad lovingly, but, hey you, is there anybody out there who can tell if those will ever see the glint of a blue laser on polycarbonate, exactly as they were, was or should have been?
Very nice set. From what we know now, this one looks like the most value for money, with WYWH as second.
Hi Robert, thanks for your comments.
Very much agree. Live version, quad mix, early mix on hi-res blur-ray, and all the goodies on disc 6 means there is real substance to this box, making the marbles and scarf easy to forgive….
I’m sure you’re right – I just got a little jumpy when the screen text (everything from the DVDs in high resolution) contradicted what the disc appears to contain.
I must say, it’s only a small thing, but I do like the design of the discs in this set.
I was wondering about that. If you look closely at the blu-ray disc in that trailer, it lists the contents (as do all the others). They are listed as:
Surround sound mix (2003)
Original stereo
Live in Brighton
Documentary
Screen films (stereo/5.1)
No mention of the quad mix…
Okay you are right it’s not listed on the blu-ray on the video…. But the video is contradictory because it also says the the blu-ray content contains everything from both DVDs which obviously includes the quad mix. Pink Floyd engineer Andy Jackson personally checked this for me back in early July and confirmed the quad mixes are on the blu-rays (DSOTM and WYWH). This was a change from the originally published specs. Probable explanation is that the visuals for this video were created before the decision to include the quad mixes was made. One assumes the discs have since been updated to reflect actual content….
