Paul McCartney / New 2CD+DVD collector’s edition due next month
Paul McCartney has confirmed that his New album will be reissued as a special three disc collector’s set in October, exactly 12 months on from its original release date.
This ‘new’ edition will be a 2CD+DVD set and comes in hardback book packaging. The first CD repeats the deluxe edition of 2013 with 14 tracks plus ‘hidden’ track Scared.
The second audio disc serves up Struggle – previously a Japanese-only bonus track – and two brand new previously unreleased tracks from the album sessions; Hell To Pay and Demons Dance. Four live tracks from McCartney’s Tokyo Dome gig in 2013 complete this CD.
The final disc is a DVD that is effectively an expanded version of the video disc that came as part of the 2014 Japan Tour Edition of New (although it doesn’t include everything from it) which was issued in the Far East in late Spring this year. Like that, this DVD includes the Something New documentary (47 minutes) and the Queenie Eye video. New to this collector’s edition are the videos for Save Us, Appreciate and Early Days along with various ‘making of’ clips. Curiously the ‘lyric video’ for the New single which was on the Japanese Tour Edition appears to be absent here.
A significant section on this new DVD is devoted to Paul’s various ‘pop up’ promo appearances on both sides of the Atlantic, including London and New York, as well as live spots at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas and two concerts in one day at BBC’s Maida Vale Studios. The total running time of this DVD amounts to nearly two hours.
New Collector’s Edition will be released on 28 October 2014.

The price for this set is currently £25 from Amazon (UK) – down from the original list price of £43.
Personally I’m getting tired or artists releasing a new album and then release a deluxe edition later on. Still bad when there is a Japanese release usually an extra track or two. But it gets even worse when there is another edition that features most but not all the material on the previous edition.
Finally, I am guessing that this album was not a top seller in the charts. Does it deserve so many editions?
For me it’s worse when the deluxe edition is concurrent with the regular and it’s just a couple of extra songs at the end.
I wonder if the book type packaging matches that of the Archives Collection Deluxe sets? Would be nice for uniformity!
Unlikely… but we can hope. Incidentally this is £40+ as an ‘import’ on Amazon Uk at the moment…
This is similar to the NEW Japanese tour edition which came out earlier this year . Many fans and me bought for a lot of Yen from Japan !!!!!
Why cant these releases be universal ?
You know that the Christmas shopping season is starting each year because there always seems to be a “new” Beatles or Paul McCartney etc release about that same time……
Great News.
I’ve been holding off buying this album because I was told this was happening so will definatly be ordering one of these.
Paul, the headline is wrong. It is 2CD+DVD…lol
oops… fixed!
Bowie had a digital bundle so you could just download the ‘new” tracks rather than the entire album again. Will Mr McCartney do the same i.e provide just the two / three new New tracks and the live versions separately…..
I wish Paul wouldn’t keep releasing the same album over and over. (By Paul, I mean the company and people involved.) A standalone DVD would have been a better call, in my book.
I’ve been tempted to get this album and now I just might.
I was going to say at the start a similar move to bowie’s next day extra but it actually puts bowie’s reissue to shame, especially the impressive dvd content.
