Out This Week / 29 September 2014
Oasis / (What’s The Story) Morning Glory ? (deluxe box)
Second reissue this year from Oasis. Still one of the UK’s best selling albums, (What’s The Story) Morning Glory ? from 1995 contains mega-hits Wonderwall, and Don’t Look Back In Anger.
ABBA / Live at Wembley Arena 2CD and 3LP set
ABBA Live at Wembley Arena presents a complete concert at the famous London venue from 10 November 1979. Includes ‘new’ ABBA song called I’m Still Alive.
Genesis / R-Kive (3CD)
This three-CD Genesis anthology spans 42 years and also contains selections from the solo careers of Tony Banks, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett, and Mike Rutherford / Mike + The Mechanics.
Prince / Art Official Age (new album)
New Prince album out today. Will this be a return to form or Prince-by-numbers? Worryingly, he’s also involved in another album Plectrumelectrum, also released today.
Ry Cooder / Soundtracks (7CD box)
Ry Cooder‘s soundtrack work of the 1980s and ’90s is the focus here with this seven-Cd box set
Various Artists / Celebrating Jon Lord (box set)
The title says it all. This set celebrates the work of Deep Purple c0-founder and organist Jon Lord. Friends and musicians (Glenn Hughes, Bruce Dickinson, Ian Paice, Don Airey and Rick Wakeman and Paul Weller) assembled at the Royal Albert Hall to pay tribute to him.
Big Country’s Steeltown deluxe edition was released this week too, possibly early. It has changed release date a couple of times mind you.
Very impressed with the vinyl package (£14.99 when pre-ordered back in March). This version has some excellent bonus tracks, specifically those ‘rough versions’ on the 2nd CD.
I’m very impressed overall with the remastering too, the original album sounds much crisper and there is much more space inside that originally murky production.
