update: I take that back, it’s $67 on US Amazon right now. In my defense, the search results page showed $76 – but clicking through to the product detail page reveals $67.

  2. Was hoping that the Joni Mitchell Archives 3 may get a price drop soon (can always hope I guess), price seems to be static in the UK?. Hopefully soon there may be a bit of movement on it as the other two seemed to drop pretty quickly after release.

    1. It’s shows the reach that SDE has when a post here can push something that’s a little bit removed from the mainstream into Amazon’s Top 100 in music sales!

  13. Listening to ‘Madman’ 5.1 – picked up the deluxe for £29 fantastic deal many thanks! Also my ‘Aqualung’ deluxe has dispatched which I snagged for £16.54! Great website keep up the good work!

  18. Hi SDE gang, Amazon UK has the Doors Live At The Matrix 1967: The Original Masters vinyl box at £89.47 atm, 5 vinyl albums & 1 7 inch, my brother has this and it’s stunning, with this price drop I’m treating myself to my own copy, comes with a stunning lift off box , no individual sleeves but all poly lined inners, I think this is a fabulous bargain

On the other end of the musical spectrum, Norah Jones’ Come Away With Me 3CD is £8.60 on there.

      1. @MARCS Great truth, it is one of the “must have” vinyls in a collection. (In my humble and sincere opinion).
I have it, since the day it went on sale and I paid a lot more.

    1. Is this the real Mobile Fidelity version? The Label is down as Wholesale Vinyl. No mention of Mobile Fidelity or Columbia. I would be tempted if it is.

          1. Great price! Have this on my list for over 6 months and checked daily, but never spotted this price and it was never out of stock. Was it sold by a third-party-seller?

  25. Thanks Paul. Got the Revolver CD set when released but the vinyl seemed a bit steep when I was essentially buying it for a large version of the alternative sleeve! Have vinyl versions of the other deluxe editions so this was eating away at me a little. It has dipped enough to justify the purchase, so cheers. Looks like I got in just in time. Only 6 left now!

  26. I notice that Neil Young Archives Vol 1 has reduced in price from £190 to £147 on Amazon UK … still a ridiculous price for 8 cds, I won’t be pulling the trigger until it’s £100 or less. I won’t hold my breath…..

  27. ‘Rudeboy: The Story of Trojan Records’ Blu-ray + CD $18 (50% off) on AMZ US

“Combining archive footage, interview and drama ‘Rudeboy’ chronicles the story of Trojan Records – one the most iconic record labels in history – as part of the cultural revolution that unfolded on the dancefloors of late ‘60s and early ‘70s Britain. Featuring legendary reggae and ska artists Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Neville Staple, Marcia Griffiths, Dandy Livingstone, Lloyd Coxsone, and Pauline Black, the film shows how that period of immigration and innovation transformed popular culture.”

  28. Not sure how many fans of The Wonder Years are here, but the vinyl copy of lead singer Dan Campbells record with Ace Enders, “Clear Eyes Fanzine”, has reduced to £12.91 on Amazon UK from just over £20.

  29. Depeche Mode – Playing The Angel 12″ Singles Box is down to £127 at the mo on Amazon UK. Way less than I paid for it :(
The Delta Machine one is also lowest I’ve seen it so far @ £115

    1. It’s one of the best music biographies I’ve read. An unflinching and difficult read in places (her childhood in particular) but an insightful and brutally honest portrait of the London music scene throughout the 80s and 90s.

It also reintroduced me to Lush’s back catalogue, reminding me of what a great band they were and of how appallingly they were treated by the music press of the day.

On a side note, the new Emma Anderson album ‘Pearlies’ is well worth a listen.

    1. I bought volume 2 for just over £100 and dont have vol 1 but am keen to get it. Given it only has 8 CDs vs 10 in vol 2, what would be a reasonable price for vol 1 given the content? As vol 2 is available for £100 I assume £80 for vol 1 or does any of the content warrant a higher rate per CD?

      1. I’d say £80 maximum, and then only if you haven’t already got the stand alone releases of “Riverboat”, “Massey Hall” and “Fillmore East”.

  30. Mirko has already posted below the Jethro Tull Aqualung box set deal on Amazon, but worth mentioning they are also selling Minstrel In The Gallery 40th Anniversary: La Grande Edition for a very reasonable £19.59. Delivery not until 3 – 9 January 2024 though.
    Here’s the link:

    1. Hi Matt always on the hunt as I am for cheap Neil Young I was trying to find that Worlds apart album but I don’t think it exists, was that a typo and if so what was the correct name for it? I ask only because I’d be interested in getting it.

  31. My Leo Sayer vinyl arrived today. Unfortunately the cover was quite creased and bashed slightly at a couple of the corners. Also no way is the vinyl the supposed purple colour, it is most definitely pale pink. I suppose for the price there’s no point returning it.

    1. All others that I have seen have definitely been clearly purple. Yours is a bit of a pinky oddity. Not sure how big the Leo Sayer collector fanbase is, but it might be worth sticking it on Ebay.

    2. I’ve bought mine about a year ago and it is a gorgeous purple. The pressing is flat and more importantly, sounds great too.
Have you played it yet? Demon re-issued a lot of his albums on coloured vinyl. Perhaps it’s a misprint (different album/wrong label?? ).
In any case GPB 6 is an absolute bargain for a great album. Enjoy

    3. Mine also arrived bashed all over the place. I put in for a replacement on Amazon whereby they have refunded me and not needing to return the record. Bit of a shame as I would rather have a good copy than a free bad copy that only cost £5.99 in the first place.

    1. Dear Mirko, good news, the link is available still 2 days later, for what is in SDE terms, a genuine bargain in this day and age. If you’re not a Tull fan per se, it’s all upside, as you can both get a genuine SDE bargain, but also not to have to listen to it for at least a month!! (Please forgive my childish humour tonight, had a tough family day and need to let off steam. Notwithstanding, if you are a Tull fan, this really is a fabulous deal. As a non-Tull listener previously, the involvement of Mr Wilson and the support of Mr Sinclair at SDE have now gently encouraged me to wander down the road marked Tull and investigate further!). To be clear, THANK YOU Mirko both for the news and brightening up a miserable day.

  32. A couple of deals on Amazon AU at the moment:
Rolling Stones Tattoo You SDE 4CD+Picture disc AUD $53 (approx GBP28)
Cat Stevens – Mona Bone Jakon SDE – AUD $105 (approx GBP 55)
Jesus Christ Super Star 3CD SDE – AUD $27 (GBP 15)

  33. Has anyone else who recently bought the Who’s Next box from Amazon France, get a message from them aying that there is a further reduction of about £5.60 that would be paid this week?

  34. My Humble Pie (70-75) box set arrived from Amazon DE this morning….all for the princely sum of £35. Its a Christmas cracker! Thanks Matt D for the heads up!

    1. I just spotted this as it has been on a wish list for years, but unavailable. Don’t know if this is a new run or if they have found some. I can’t remember what the price was when I was looking at it before.

  35. Amazon Spain Deals:

    • Bob Dylan – Triplicate 3LP at 22€
    • Sade – This Far Box Set 6 LP at 114 €
    • Wilco – Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (Box Set) 7 LP st 82€
  36. The recent David Sylvian 10CD “Do you know me now?’ super-deluxe is currently £75 on Burning Shed – almost 50% off the £145.99 still being charged on the Sylvian store/SOV etc

    1. great deal. Are they reliable burning shed as never ordered from them before?. It says it is a pre order. where do you think they are getting it from? thanks

      1. I can recommend burningshed.com which was founded and is run by artists like e.g. No-Man singer Tim Bowness.

Reliable service, friendly communication and often releases there come with extras like postcards that are not available from other retailers.

Regarding the David Sylvian set i must say a word of warning here for customers who don’t live in the UK though.

I put the box set into my cart on the website and then logged into my account there and was dumb strucked to find out that shipping cost to Germany would be £32 as they can’t seem to use Royal Mail because the box is too heavy for that and so they are using a courier service to send it instead.

As that brings the total amount including delivery up to £107 or about 125€ and i already own most of the original releases included here i’m gonna take my chances and wait if a retailer in Germany will offer it at a similar price as the £75 / ca. 85€ but without or at least with considerable less shipping cost.

If not i hope that i’ll notice in time when the Universal store will sell their overstock of it for about 100€ sometime next year…

      2. Probably signed a distribution deal.

I’ve ordered from them a few times and they’re pretty good. They do a lot of the online selling for Porcupine Tree catalogue material.

      3. Yes, extremely reliable and well worth supporting. They host artist stores for the likes of Steven Wilson, Jethro Tull and other prog legends. Would be great if they could be added to the SDE widget in fact.

          1. Love SDE, love Steven W, love Porcupine Tree, Love Tim Bowness – why on earth would Burning Shed not want to be part of the SDE widget where many of your customers go for news? I smell BS (with hopefully obvious gentle irony implied, in the hope of amusing at least 1 person out there).

    1. It is very unpredictable to say whether this release will fall below £100, even then for 4 CDs it’s far too high. This release is very likely a limited edition and it is a Japanese import. I bit at £135* from Amazon Spain because I didn’t want to risk not getting it. That is the risk if you really want it you have to take. It may go down and good luck if you get it cheap but it also may go up. Anyhow good luck.

*For a while now by selling I’m able to cover the cost of buying new additions to my collection.

    2. I may bite if it drops below £100. Even then it’s too expensive. For 4 CD’s and some (admittedly cool) inserts, £200 is / was a total joke. There is simply no need to charge that much. The Bootleg Series box sets are still expensive when first released but there is still an argument that you are getting around 6 discs and 2 nice hardback books. But it was a step too far with the Budokan release. I streamed it on Amazon and to be honest not a release I’m gonna be returning to that often.

    3. Some food for thought. 7digital uk have the complete 58 track set in 44kHz 16-bit flac (i.e. what’s commonly referred to as ‘CD quality’) for download at £18.99.

Admittedly there’s nothing physical – no discs, books, ticket stubs etc. – but that’s an ENORMOUS saving of £181.00 on Amazon UK’s (and HMV’s) current price of £199.99 for the 4CD set – a discount of 90%.

Amazon UK’s mp3 price is £12.99, which suggests 7digital’s price isn’t an error.

(HDtracks in the USA have the 96kHz 24-bit version for just under $60, or $45 if you sign up for their mailing list and wait for a storewide 25% discount day.)

  37. Roni Size New Forms 20th anniversary 4CD set is £8.79 on the PIAS UK store at the moment.

The PIAS sale is really good to be fair. Lots of good stuff on there with 20% off.

  38. Guns N’ Roses Use Your Illusion CD box set is £133 on Amazon UK today
Still overpriced, but I have caved. I would like the LP set as well, but that is still over £300.

I am holding out for that to dip below £200 and for the Beatles Revolver LP set to dip below £100.

  39. Just received my Songs From The Wood box set via Amazon. The back of the set carries a 2017 copyright and the same barcode as the original edition. This does not appear to be a reprint but part of a six-year-old stash that has apparently come to light in the last month or so. Sealed sets are still being offered by those unaware of this treasure trove for anything up to £350 plus on Discogs. So many thanks to the spotter !

    1. I received my copy from Amazon (ReflexCD third party seller). My copy has torn shrink. Gaps where price stickers or barcodes have been removed. Otherwise ok. In short though, it looks like a copy that has been in a warehouse somewhere for some time. It doesn’t look freshly pressed so you may be correct…

    2. My songs from the wood box arrived this afternoon and mines exactly as you describe. Obviously a load of them been tucked away in a warehouse somewhere.

      1. Burning Shed have the deluxe version of Songs, Aqualung and Minstrel all down as pre-orders and available from the 8th. So there is a repress but perhaps also some old stock has come to light.

    1. Thanks Oskar,

combined with the 4cd-set of New Order’s ‘Substance’ (19€) and the 2-cd version of The Beatles’ ‘Revolver’ (8€) this combination was cheap enough for me to order.

  40. Thin Lizzy L&D is $79 & change on Amazon US with free shipping! For us in the US, works out cheaper than the deal at Amazon UK … especially after shipping. Bagged one!

  41. Got the Thin Lizzy box for bruv’s Christmas pressie, copying in my Brennan, it’s absolutely magnificent, not a massive Thin Lizzy fan before but this is top drawer.

  42. As a public service to the group, I have conducted some very unscientific research on the availabilities of the Jethro Tull boxsets, starting with the band’s debut “This Was” up until “Broadsword.” Using Amazon Canada and Amazon United States as my bases, it seems to me that the following boxes are easy to obtain, at reasonable prices: “This Was,” “Benefit,” “Aqualung,” “Thick as a Brick,” “Minstrel in the Gallery,” “Songs from the Wood,” “A” and “Broadsword.” Boxes that are (at least for now) out of print and therefore stupid expensive are: “Stand Up,” “A Passion Play,” “War Child,” “Too Old to Rock n’ Roll,” “Heavy Horses” and “Stormwatch.” Maybe some of you disagree on what I concluded were the tough / expensive ones to get. And keep in mind that until recently we thought “Thick as a Brick,” “Aqualung,” “Minstrel in the Gallery” and “Songs from the Wood” would never again see the light of day, yet all were re-released… which gives us hope for other titles that could be re-released.

    1. Many thanks for this David. I have just ordered ‘Minstrel in the Gallery’ so will only be missing ‘A Passion Play’ and ‘War Child’ to complete the set. Hopefully they will get a reissue soon. These boxsets are really well put together and I think they are great value.

      1. And just a further word on the Aqualung set. This was available on Amazon.UK this morning at an amazing £16 or so but to get free shipping had to get order up to £25. Before I had time to complete purchase whilst looking for something to add in far less post on here price was adjusted in my basket to £28 and seller changed from Amazon to 3rd party. Some will have got an amazing bargain!

        1. Colin, in case you didn’t know, if you are not on Amazon Prime, if you have delivery to a pick up point like an Amazon Locker, you can get free delivery without spending £25.

          1. Thanks Cheetah! Del is back on at £16.35. Although sale is from Amazon it comes up as other sellers. Now bought!

          2. Delivery is not until 9 Jan 2024, but at £16.35, it’s worth the wait! Thanks Colin!

      2. Hi Stephen – my pleasure and I am glad that you found the list to be of use. That’s great, and to your point, fingers crossed that the other out-of-print titles come back into print. (“Stand Up” and “War Child” are my remaining two targets.)

        1. Thanks from me too! I just ordered two of the ones I’m missing. Now I only need ‘War Child’ and ‘Too Old to Rock and Roll’ and I have them all.

          1. Wonderful! Glad to have been able to lend a helping hand… and “you and me both” regarding “War Child.”

    2. Fantastic post DK. This is why l keep coming here, informative, useful tips from those much more in the know than l.
I’ve had a gut-full of the old ultra-violence of late.

    3. Spot-on! All the ones that are “reasonably priced” I bought on release, all the others I held back on and now they are the hardest to track down – typical eh?

  43. Store. Rhino.com in the US has 12 days of Christmas sale: 40% off for different artists every day. On 12/5 it is Van Halen Collection on vinyl AKA David Lee Roth Years for $89.00. This was previously Walmart only and matches the new Van Hagar / Sam Halen Vinyl Box Set. Tomorrow on 12/6 it will be Depeche Mode.

    1. Thank you @Marillo-Tom

The purchasing process is painful, it is impossible to make the payment, due to poor website design.

The online support answers what they want, it doesn’t solve the problem, and I’m afraid I’ll miss out on a purchase.

It is incredible that in 2023, they do not have a website to sell properly. :(

  44. Minstrel in the Gallery 40th box set arrived today. I was gearing up to unwrap a box of confetti but it’s the real deal. 2015 pressing. I wonder whether there’s been a stocktake in St Cleve and more have been found.

    1. Pretty sure it’s a reprint of the 2015 edition. When Thick As A Brick reappeared earlier this year there were no discernible differences from the original edition.

  45. The Live & Dangerous set is excellent. I got it a couple of weeks ago when it was £62, as I had a £20 voucher, so it came in at a bargain £42.

  46. The 8CD Humble Pie A&M Years 1970-75 box set is £34 on Amazon DE

Also worth noting that if you don’t want the full whack of the big Sailor On Sailor box set the 2CD version is £6.86 on Amazon DE too, which is a great price (never been less than about £15 on Amazon UK)

The 2CD versions of GnR’s Use Your Illusion sets are also £8.50.

    1. Mine arrived remarkably considering they got my address wrong apart from the post code.
Now are you planning to replace the disc in the set or leave it as it is and just keep it separate. It’s a snug fit in the case and I don’t think the extra disc will go in.

      1. Random town on my address also. Thankfully post code got it here. It’s a pity a well meaning gesture has turned into something so frustrating. Great it’s here finally. It had better be good bum footage !!

    1. I’m really interested in this set, but the one thing that’s making me nervous about buying it is what I saw on Norman Mazlov’s YouTube channel where his booklet fell apart. Has anyone on here experienced the same? Other than that he was really singing the praises of this box set.

      1. The box arrived this morning. Booklet seems fine. But you get SO much music in this set, on 14CDs, the price is very fair. Considering how many sets are now around the £100 mark for 4 or 5 CDs, the price per track makes this a steal

      1. Thanks for the imusic.dk Sail On Sailor tip a couple of weeks ago. Mine arrived on Saturday and it was perfectly packaged. £39.50 including P&P – bargain of the year. Cheers!
