  1. I think it’s still better to own older pressings on vinyl and cd, some of the previously released remasters (which were sold individually) were nice and some not so nice.
I luckily got near-mint “Downside Up” really cheaply from discogs. I have never collected SATB-releases, only have the albums, few comps plus “Downside Up”-boxset and that “At The BBC”-boxset. Maybe I should be looking for the rest missing vinyl and start collecting single/maxi-releases also?

I haven’t heard the first box (Classic Album Selection Volume One) but based on the various comments I have seen, it seems to much louder and compressed yet again. Some even said that some of the albums with thinner production gained little upgrade with these latest remasters, is that possible really? Someone who has the first set, please comment more here.

  2. I’ll be passing on this – I don’t care how cheaply priced it is, I’d rather get the individual CD’s WITH the extra songs than this pointless repackage.

      1. Only Scream through Juju are newly remastered. The last two are the 2009 remasters, which is a shame because I HATE the Dreamhouse remaster. The next box set will have nothing remastered, and will just be reissues of the remaining 2009 remasters ( I HATE the Hyaena remaster), and then the 2014 remasters.

        1. Thanks for clearing up, I listened to Kaleidoscope and Juju and they sound better in my opinion, there’s more weight in the songs, I thought the last remaster of Juju sounded uneven, like demos.
I’ve only listened to Dreamhouse remaster once and I recall it sounding thin, shame it’s not being remastered.
          Hoping the vinyls get reissued.

  3. There has been one quirk about this discovered. It seems that the band name/logo has gone missing from the cover of A Kiss in the Dreamhouse. Severin has not yet replied to numerous posts inquiring about it, whether it was intentional or not. The suspicion is that it was not intentional. All other sleeves look correct. No track listings on the back of the sleeves, though Juju does have it very small along the bottom, according to one report.

    1. Re. ‘Kiss In the Dreamhouse’ it looks like all the gold print has been missed off the cover which includes the band logo. A sad oversight which may be corrected sometime.
Unfortunately I can’t give the CDs a good workout as my hi-fi has broken (fragile Cyrus). However the first few CDs sound good on a midi-system.
After ripping ‘Spellbound’ I see the file size has increased from 22.8 MB in the 2006 remaster to 23.4MB which I take as a good sign for the sound quality.
Shame that it’s not a clamshell case like the Skids. However I am very glad that I followed my instinct and bought this box set.
Thank you Paul for the heads-up on the deal!

  4. Thanks for the tip on this as managed to grab it on Amazon for £12.99. It’s an odd box this. Not quite the cheap and cheerful Original Album Series, hence the higher price tag, but not a deluxe box with booklet and bonuses. The gatefold sleeves are odd too. What is the point? Surely, it would have made sense to at least print the track listing and possibly credits within the gatefold. But no, nothing. I think a band as important as this deserves a decent archival box set. It’s not this and I don’t think we will get one.

  5. I bought today in HMV. Whilst its nice to have this as a “bargain” alert I think that £12.99 is a fair price, certainly not a bargain. We’re talking about a cheap box and cardboard gatefold sleeves and cd. There are zero credits, no information, just a photo in the gatefold. Thats it. I’m not complaining as getting 6 albums for £13 is a decent price but the band deserves better, i mean come on, doesnt cost anything to print songwriting credits or where and when the album was recorded. Havent really had time to check the sound quality but nobody should think they’re getting some impressive box set with booklet, photo’s, band history and credits as you’ll be disappointed. If you just want the music then you should be very happy.

  6. Before you all go on and order this, I’ve recently found a few of these 5CD/6CD basic box sets in Sainsburys for just £9.

They’ve had sets from the three major record companies at this incredible price.

    1. Yes, I’ve seen UB40, Level 42 and Quo 5-discers in there for £9. And the Warner “Original Album” sets as well. But I’m not sure this Siouxsie box will turn up in the same way. We’ll have to see, I suppose!

  7. At that price I couldn’t resist as these are truly classic albums.
To me they lost their way a bit after Nocturne.
However to get my £20 free delivery threshold I had to order more. I found Superstition, Rapture and Looking Glass at very low prices.
Yes I know their coming out in volume 2 – but it gives me the extra tracks and some breathing space.
It’s a real shame that the Banshees have not had the beautiful and comprehensive box set that they deserved. Maybe one for the 40th anniversary of ‘The Scream’ in 2018?!

  8. ordered.
looking forward to hearing these albums at last.
after the chaotic mess of the various reissues (jewel case some, digipack others), i have been wanting a simple boxset of the albums without extras.
so, this hits the spot perfectly.
gotta love the deal alerts !
oh, and to get the free delivery, just add the new soulsavers release £20.98 .
    result.

    1. Hi Ollie – yes, lovely to meet you, thanks for coming and saying hello. It turns out I had a pass to Steven Wilson’s “private” aftershow but didn’t realise it. He just emailed to say ‘where were you?’. D’oh!

      1. That’s a real shame but trust the world of prog to have an excessive number of aftershows! Still, as they say at the Oscars, it’s nice to be nominated and hopefully there will be another opportunity to hang out with him. Small consolation but if you’re ever up in Norwich the beers are on me.

  9. Got it! $20 shipped to the US. Can’t beat that. It is annoying the previous bonus tracks were left off though. Why would anyone think that’s a good idea?

  10. Really enjoy your site and deal alerts. Just an FYI, when I actually clicked to order (2:51 PM GMT) price came up as 10.83. only 13.91 to ship to US (20.58 USD). Amazon US is listed as 29.89 USD.

THanks for always keeping fans up to date on these great deals!

  11. And . . . they’ve stripped off the extra tracks from the last re-issues. Does anyone know if they are remastered subtly/brickwalled or not touched at all?

    1. The first 4 have been remastered again, and have now been somewhat brickwalled and muddied, the way only Kevin Metcalfe can do. But the price is cheap and I hear they come in gatefold sleeves.

    1. Thanks Paul for flagging this up, and thanks Mike for the HMV tip. I can’t use Amazon at all, (one of their ridiculous algorhythms froze me out over a year ago) so I always check the eBay and other routes for the same cheap prices on stuff. Got the James ‘Laid’ SD set for the same £20.48 offer price on ebay for instance. Great to get this set without the postage it makes it worth adding to the other 5 sets I already have in digipak, jewel case, Japanese mini LP CD (two sets) and vinyl originals!!

What exactly is a ‘gatefold Remus wallet’ It’s the ‘Remus’ bit that I’m unfamiliar with. I have the Cure album selection set in a similar rigid box, and in gatefold sleeves but these have a great die-cut hole in the wallet where the label side of the CD shows through. Prety naff, hope these Banhees ones are not the same. I know Severin said he was not impressed with other titles in this ‘selection’ series. The slip case is a really nice design anyway.

It’s just a pity they couldn’t just issue them in the jackets as originally concieved. Only Join Hands and Nocturn were in gatefold sleeves originally. I’m hopeful the Japanese will stick all 12 of them out later in the year on SHM mini LP CDs and do the job properly.

These will do for the moment, and for £13 who can complain really! I’m interested to hear the re-mastering of the earlier titles, brickwalled or not.
