  1. For US folks, checkout Rhino.com, 12 days of Christmas, 40% off. Yesterday Ramones, today Sabbath, Depeche Mode to come soon. Also, SOV 30% sale ends soon, same for Udiscovermusic.com. The Depeche Mode 12″ boxes would be around $100 after the 40% off, PTA, Exciter, SOFAD, CTA. Peace.

    1. yes some great stuff but lots of the stuff in the sale is opened and some have corner dents for the vinyls, worth specifying if you only want sealed and perfect copies. apparently its in their small print.

  2. Not a deal as such but may save somebody some cash. It appears that the Kate Bush Remasters Box Sets are in the process of being imminently re-released. These have been out of print for some time. Some of the vinyl ones are still available on AmazonUK now but the CD boxes and first vinyl box in particular are commanding serious money on Ebay. If anybody is thinking of investing, it may be worth waiting a bit.
Townsend music are accepting preorders for the CD boxes. They are advertised as Limited Editions with a release date of 9th December. Vinyl to follow in New Year.

      1. £30 was never the recommended price. I can’t remember the original price but it was quite high, but yeah – all Remaster CD and vinyl sets were on huge discount for a very long time from multiple outlets. I bought mine as the result of an SDE alert – £25 for box 1 and £39 for box 2). I do recall the pricing difference between Box 1 & Box 2 so certainly odd that they both seem to be £95 now on Townsend. Maybe there will be adjustments when they start to appear to Amazons etc.

  3. Eric Clapton Nothing But the Blues Blu-Ray/2-LP/2CD SDE $81 on AMZ US (65% off)

Temple of the Dog 2CD/DVD/Blu-Ray Audio SDE $69 on AMZ US (44% off)

Lynyrd Skynyrd Live At Knebworth ’76 Blu-Ray/CD $15 on AMZ US (40% off)

    1. Great link, thanks from me too. Picked up the Feel Flows 4LP plus the Beatles Let It Be Super Deluxe CD box for 81 euros including postage. Around £70 for the two box sets is pretty good value in my book.

    2. Thank you very much, for the notice, I had bought it days ago at another price drop, but not that big. I have canceled it and I have bought it again, despite the fact that the shipping costs went up, it was still cheaper for me. A real bargain. :)))

  4. If you are not enough of a Kinks fan to stump up for the big box Rarewaves has the Knotting Hillbillies/Show Biz 2cd book set at £6.80 now. Both great albums especially at this price.
In addition 4cd Tom Petty Fillmore 97 set at £51.

      1. Cheers Doadie for following your comment I ordered the best of Feeder for £16/£17 myself, it was too good an album not to pass up on over 4 LPs when you consider the price it would have been originally.

    1. Rarewaves also have the Kinks Lola v Powerman…. SDE (CD) for AUD46 (about GBP 25). Also if you are a Black Sabbath fan, there are heaps of vinyl & CDs discounted – look under The Warner Music CD & Vinyl sale tab
Lastly, not so much of a bargain for UK residents but they also have a heap of those 3CD Crimson Gold sets for AUD 6.99 (GBP 4). Certainly a bargain for us Aussies who pay up to $20 for these on Amazon AU.
(some Gold vinyl in there too for AUD 16.99

  5. Fans of post-metal and shoegaze should check out the Relapse records sale: all cds US$5, lps US$15 and double lps $20.
Fans of good design should also take a look at the colored vinyl editions, as this label does an extraordinary job of producing discs that beautifully complement the sleeve art.

Over at Cherry Red, they’ve knocked 30% off the already discounted stuff in the bargain bin (almost entirely cds). There are a few nice scores in there for listeners with specialized tastes.

  6. Good deal on the Asia in Asia box set on Amazon US . I imagine just as good on UK site as these seem to be UK sellers.( I have read there are syncing issues with the audio and video on the blu-Ray)
Asia in Asia – Live at The Budokan, Tokyo, 1983 Deluxe https://a.co/7RoYk1m

  7. As others have commented, Amazon’s Black Friday deals for music was/is a very dull affair. Most deals were only a few dollars cheaper.
For those in Australia here are some deals I found, the best being Black Sabbath Sabotage Vinyl SDE $71 (GBP 40), Elton’s Madman Across The Water $82 (GBP 45) (Lightning Deal), The Rolling Stones Tattoo You SDE $83 (GBP 46) for CD version. $120 (GBP 67) for Vinyl box. These are still live however Elton’s is a lightning deal which ends 6pm AWST.
I managed to pick up CSNY Deja Vu for $68 (GBP 38) but that deal’s dusted.

  8. On Amazon IT – good price on Bob Dylan & The Band Basement Tapes Complete 6CD set – down to £66

And Elton John Madman Across The Water 3CD/BR is £45 (not sure how replacement Blu Ray works when ordering from Europe, though, so worth considering).

    1. if its knackered when it arrives do not bother trying to send it back, buy it from amazon uk then send them the crap one back. spent 3 hours this weekend trying to send back some weller illumination damaged LP’s and the hardest part was getting them to agree to pay more than the 7 euros that they say is their maximum amount for return postage then it took about 15 messages to get the return address which incidentally is not in france. They keep directing you to an email address that does not accept emails – total nightmare.

  9. As others have stated Black Friday in the UK has had little benefit for music fans. I suspect that retailers* think that if us music fans can continue to buy music in these harsh economic times we can pay optimum prices.

*The S.D.E. shop being an exception, pity I’m not a Macca completist and was able to resist.

    1. What I found dispiriting was the Amazon sites around Europe seemed this time to have aligned themselves and were offering pretty much the same dreadful music items, where in previous years they went their own ways with Amazon.de and Amazon.fr far outstripping the UK for interesting product. This year, particularly with the UK, it was a real drudge just to scroll the pages. They need to significantly up their game or I’m just going to start streaming (not)!

      1. Black Friday & RSD prices have been creeping up to silly money over recent years. I could have bought Duran online this morning but when it sat in the basket at £46 and shipping tipping it over £50 – I just lost the enthusiasm. According to the Rough Trade website, it’s limited to 2000 copies (although their figures have been suspect in the past), but we’ll probably see some interesting Ebay prices on this…

    2. I’m not either but there is a positive in the lack of serious deals in that it gives us more chance to listen for the first time to previous mega box sets that we have purchased as a consequence of logging into this great site and having some money left to purchase Xmas presents for nearest and dearest !

  10. I just took another look at the ‘deal over’ ‘Level 42 – The Complete Polydor Years Volume Two (10CD)’. It’s back up to £44 but if you look at ‘used & new’ you can get it new for £22.15. It appears to be sold by Amazon with free shipping for Prime members, it’s just that the delivery time is stated as 1-2 months. If you’re not in a hurry, it’s a superb deal at circa £2 per CD! It was actually my Microsoft Edge shopping extension pop-up that alerted me to it or else I’d have probably missed it. Could well be it will be shipped earlier.

    1. Amazon always default to the cheapest ‘in stock’ product. If an Amazon-supplied item is out of stock (ie with a 1-2 month wait time) then the lowest priced in-stock 3rd party item will show up at the top of the pricing list & you have to check the sellers list for the Amazon option. This is how they have always organised things.

  11. Thank you Paul and all at the SDE shop! I’d given up on Black Friday as a total damp squib – wasn’t even bothering to look for a bargain anymore. Then your email arrived with a Paul McCartney vinyl sale, and at a stroke I have pretty much bought (subject to your confirmation email) all the remaining albums I had planned to get, and every one at an amazing price!
Plus I even snapped up the Brian Eno blu-ray audio that I had dithered over till it had sold out.
So well done for being the ONLY genuine and worthwhile music Black Friday deal this side of the Atlantic that I’ve seen!

  12. anybody got tips for returning damaged items to france, they say they will refund up to 7 euros for the return postage which is about 20 euros short, is there a freephone number or chat facility, could not find anything on the site.

    1. You didn’t specify where you are returning the items to – I guess it’s amazon.fr? Recently I had to return a damaged record (which was sent to me in a brown paper bag) and I didn’t have to pay anything to send it back. They’ll send you a return label to your email, you glue it over the old shipping label and take it to the nearest drop off location.
I’ve also opted for store credit instead of a refund or a replacement (as the item wasn’t on stock anymore).

    2. Contact them via the Chat’ fascility, they will give you an email address to send a copy of the shipping receipt to. They will also agree to pay you the full cost of return shipping including tracking. Be sure to get tracking because you will most likely have to contact them once the item reaches them for your refund or replacement to be paid/sent. The Euro Amazons can be a pain in the arse over refunds/replacements but you will get them, just be patient. You can only claim shipping costs once the item is returned. I’m waiting for Amazon Germany to refund me around £165 for my Revolver SDE 4LP Set. They sent me the SINGLE LP! It was returned 3 weeks ago, they say it takes up to 30 days. 30 days to click a feckin’ button. That’s German efficiency for you.

    3. Assuming it’s an Amazon supplied item…

You could order the item again from UK and, assuming it’s in good condition when that copy arrives, you keep the UK-supplied one but claim it’s been damaged and return the Amazon France-supplied copy for a refund of what you paid Amazon UK.

You’d end up with the item you want at the price you wanted to pay and in a condition you’re happy with, and benefited from the free returns that Amazon UK offer.

      Hope that helps

      1. I’ve dealt with several Euro Amazon returns. The advice from Heraldo is the simplest and quickest. Although it may seem a little morally iffy at first, it is essentially the same company so potentially justified.
As Golden Age of Phonograph said – Amazon.fr would refund eventually, but only after the return has been received and fully processed and then only after emailing postage receipts etc to somewhere else. It’s a pain.

    4. I had to do something a while ago and there was a translate service. It’s definitely become harder to chat to someone on any of the sites now, but you can get there by default on the chat bot usually. I once returned something to amazon.de and they were more generous with the return postage, but maybe 5 years ago. A lot of things are tighter now. With expensive items that could be damaged, it’s probably only worth risking an overseas amazon if it’s much cheaper as there is certainly more hassle.

    5. Hi Tony,
Assume you mean Amazon Fr. I had the same problem a few years back before Australia was geo blocked. I had to return a damaged vinyl box set which cost about $75 in postage to return. I ended up emailing them to confirm that they would honour refunding me the postage. (I was hoping they would just send a replacement free of charge considering the cost of postage lol)
They did refund me once I provided them a receipt of postage paid. Here is a link I found to either chat or email in English. (It was hard to find!!!)
      https://www.amazon.fr/hz/contact-us/foresight/hubgateway-csp

    6. This is the problem with ordering from a foreign Amazon site. Returns means losses. I avoid ordering boxsets from foreign Amazon sites. Lost EUR 15 on the Beatles fruit bowl set masquerading as singles. If you are lucky enough to live in the UK you could also be charged for the reimport into EU with VAT and handling charges – the agreements are not reciprocal. What is free to import into UK is not free to export to EU. I get killed every time for goods sent from UK which I could send duty free to UK. Buyer beware or take the chance that Amazon pack it properly.

    7. I had a bad vinyl in my Pink Floyd Animals set back last month. I contacted Amazon.fr via chat, translating my text into French each time. This proved cumbersome and slow, but the agent was patient and suggested I send in English and he would do the translating at his end.
It was still slow and painful, BUT to my great surprise, he gave me a full refund for the faulty product AND said there was no need to return it!
I asked for a full transcript of the chat to be sent which I have; the refund came through promptly, and I still have the set!
      Superb service.

    1. Thanks Heinz.

I don’t know much of her music, but know her reputation is very good, and this is another great value purchase. Just when will I get the time to play the various box sets I’ve acquired recently?

      Regards,

      1. She has amazing taste in covering songs. She did go a bit MOR for me in this later period and I prefer the earlier Elektra albums, but that set is still very expensive. I hope that you enjoy this and try listening to some of the earlier albums.

        1. I prefer JCs earlier material to her later stuff which is a bit too MOR for me so Ive passed on that box set but I did realise I didnt have any of her early comps apart from maybe on a few various artist Folk comps. Ive managed to get the Original Album Series of her 5 early Elektra albums on Discogs for £12.

Thenks Heinz for bringing my attension to JC.

          1. “A bit MOR and a “bit too Mor “. We clearly come from the same standpoint. I have been tempted by this second set at that price, but would I actually listen to it?

      2. Hi Bruno, my experience with ordering box sets from overseas amazons, I ordered macca flaming pie from US site it arrived 2 days later another set from Germany arrived the next day, both obviously didnt originate from either country, with a little detective work I found that they did come from another country Scotland.

        1. Doesn’t take too much detective work to work out that an item from Amazon.De etc that offers next day delivery isn’t coming from Germany, but from the Amazon warehouse in Dunfermline that deals with a lot of the euro stock. However if you need to return it you have to send it back to the designated warehouse for the country whose site you obtained it from as the Scottish warehouse doesn’t handle incoming items only outbound shipments. Amazon.De returns used to have to be returned to a warehouse in Lithuania.

    1. Always the way, I’m waiting for the Ziggy one to come down from £25 as I have all the others , same with Slade splatter discs, all the ones I bought have since come down in price except for Sladest which I still need to buy but still about £25 at the moment

  13. US Deal: Pixies Live at Brixton 8LP $78 via deepdiscount, which is ~ $90 lower than the usual suspects. Use their eBay storefront to avoid the shipping upcharge for heavier items. They’ve put the 8CD version up at Wal-Mart for $33 as well.

I’ll spare everyone the wallet casualty report from the WM pre-Black Friday vinyl sale, which was madness. By some accounts, it was unevenly executed at store level and box sets were ringing up at $15. Grain of salt, etc. There are still some things left online at this price (e.g., half the Zep catalog).

  14. Gosh… George Michael Older box set deal alert. Even though I have already purchased Japanese 2CD version as a compromise thinking that this box set price was totally out of my reach, I could not resist this massive price reduction. Just ordered it.

  15. Bob Dylan’s forthcoming ‘Fragments – Time Out Of Mind Sessions (1996-1997): The Bootleg Series Vol. 17’ 5CD set is currently £108.07 on Amazon UK (down from the £129.99 RRP). Not a bargain, but a significant reduction at this stage for anyone wanting it on release day perhaps?

    1. Pretty decent discounts – especially on single vinyl albums from megasellers such as eg. Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Tull. So if you are new to vinyl or to coin a phrase have worn out well loved copies worth a look!

  16. ‘Closed For Business’, the career spanning 25th anniversary box by Mansun is the latest addition to Burning Shed’s nice price offer on several box sets following the likes of the ‘1969’ set by King Crimson or ‘Who Do You Think We Are?’ by Caravan.

The Mansun box is now available for £125 and of course Amazon.uk has already hopped on the bandwagon…

    1. However the £125 on Burning Shed does not include VAT – so in the UK you pay £150 (a grand saving of £10 off the normal price on the Burning Shed site) A bit odd as most Burning Shed prices on their site include UK VAT (a sign of things to come ?)

      1. That’s a rather strange move. I’ve just checked and the newsletter for this week stated that as well (£125 plus VAT if applicable)

The other boxes on offer are not affected it seems and out of personal experience i can say that the Caravan-box had the UK-VAT deducted from the £175 offer price when i ordered it (as the total value of my order was more than 150€) but i got a receipt by the carrier and had to pay German VAT afterwards.

  17. On Amazon UK

Good price on the Bowie 2CD mediabook Width Of A Circle, down to £9.39

And there’s a 3rd party (dispatched from Amazon) selling the ace 2CD edition of David Crosby’s If I Could Only Remember My Name for £5.79

Deluxe 2CD version of Garbage’s No Gods No Monster is £8.20

    Pretenders II 3CD is £17.72

    1. Mine arrived Wednesday in what looked like a paper bag (!) but contained the sturdy manufacturer box inside. Perfect condition, except for one of the cardboard CD sleeves must have got rammed against the edge of its pocket during transit and has a small nick as a result. Still, can’t grumble for £40.

As others have said, many thanks to @Roland for the original alert and @PaulS for the amplification.

    2. Yep, mine arrived yesterday. All good! Along with the George Harrison ATMP deluxe CD set, Nirvana deluxe CD 30th anniversary set, and the Let It Be vinyl deluxe boxset, these have have been my 4 deals of the year.

  18. I also posted this on the actual news item but realized it should probably be posted here as well. The new colored vinyl Rolling Stones mono vinyl box can be bought for $306 if you are a USA resident. Order it from JPC.de, shipping is $4 and they don’t charge the VAT so the total comes out to $306. A bit better than the $450 that Amazon.com is currently charging (taxes not even included!).

      1. Hi Paul, I think the value is £135. As I understand it, under that value the online seller is responsible for the tax. Above that value and it shifts to the individual, and you end up paying the duties, VAT and dreaded handling fees.

        1. I investigated the possibility of buying the Tom Petty Fillmore set from Amazon.com at the USD48 price and was quite excited to see that they would sell and ship to the U.K.. At checkout they levy VAT on the total price, including shipping, making saving marginal at current exchange rates..

    1. Mine shipped as well like Pim’s, also for delivery today. I think it may only be those of us who paid for the extra speedy delivery who got it as they couldn’t cancel when they realised their mistake.

Good note for future Amazon misprices, pay a few quid extra for the fast delivery to make it more difficult for them to backtrack.

I’m so sorry you’re not getting yours Roland, especially since you spotted the deal.

      1. It seems they are maybe doing them in batches. This morning when I read some were being dispatched, arriving today or that Roland’s had been cancelled, I’d also had no notification either way. Notification finally arrived 12:30ish to arrive Sunday.

    2. Thanks for all the nice replies and I´ve to make a short update: I just reread the mail from Amazon.it. again and noticed that I didn´t read/translated it exactly. I ordered two box-sets for me and my daughter and they just canceled the second one, cause of the wrong price. They said, they would make an exception and ship per customer one for the given price. So if you just ordered one, you should have got no amazon-notification and hopefully will get it for this amazing price.

    3. I got an email about mine but as it was all in Italian I wasn’t sure if mine had been cancelled but having pasted the text into Google translate I found mine’s on the way so happy days!

  19. The link takes me to my Amazon UK app and then asks me what country I want. When I change to Italy, will it just allow me to order through my existing UK account? Never tried it before.

  20. Caravan fans might be interested to know that last years magnificent box set, Who Do You Think We Are is currently available from both Amazon UK and Burning Shed for just £175!!!! That’s a £100 saving!!! The third party seller on Amazon also has the massive John Mayall box set at the same price! Unbelievable! I guess these are end of stock items, so get your “skates” on if you want one.
Wish I could have the Caravan set, but lack of storage space and having had to spend well over £500 on car repairs recently means that I am out on this one; will just have to make do with my smaller Decca/Deram Years collection.

    1. Thanks for the tip always fancied delving into Caravan so here’s a golden opportunity – at 175 quite a saving, although wouldn’t have or couldn’t justify 275 – apparently reading elsewhere the mastering and sound is better on your set but you can’t go wrong with the content. Thanks again.

    1. Very much appreciated Roland, and thanks to Paul for sending out the email highlighting it. Could refuse at that price. Now I’ll just wait from them to hopefully fix the Revolver box set with a Blu-ray.

    2. Thanks so much. I’d been holding out for a price drop on the LIB set but never thought it would drop sub £40 so an instant buy.

Now begins the long wait for a similar price drop on Revolver…

  21. This may be of limited interest to people, but Lee Morgan’s Complete Live at the Lighthouse 8 CD set is currently £16.94 on Amazon UK. It’s a fantastic price for a great set and easily the cheapest it’s been since release.

    1. Thanks for highlighting the Lee Morgan deal. I looked at this for a long time, didn’t buy it; and then the price went up. My money today went on this and the Charles Lloyd set that timtunes highlighted rather than The Beatles deal.

  22. Amazon selling the Neil Young Official Release Discs 13, 14, 20 & 21 box for £29.99, which is decent if your collection is specifically missing the 3 albums and EP in it. Not worth it if you own any of the CDs from it already as none are remastered etc.

  23. For readers in the US, there’s another DeepDiscount via Walmart steal: The Pretty Things Live at the BBC 6cd box set with a 50 page booklet, shipped for US $13.38 plus tax.

Currently just two copies left in stock at Walmart, though you might be able to order direct from DD for a few dollars more.

  24. I expect the Blondie Box Set to keep dropping, it was only £210 when it was first anounced on the blondie web site, it was only when other retailers started pushing the prices up that the blondie site followed. I bought the red vinyl box set for £230 when thye black vinyl was at £210

  25. I was in Fopp (Shaftesbury Avenue) last night and they had a huge sale of jazz vinyl classics – prices were £10 – £13 I think. I expect HMV may have same deals as they own Fopp

    1. DOL releases. Mastered from CD, using sketchy copyright laws to ‘re release’. A good way to pick up some rarer stuff on vinyl, but for your regular classics, Miles Davis etc, I tend to go for the original label, Colombia, EMI etc. Usually better art reproduction and source of master.

      1. Do you know this for a fact or is it an assumption? I was thinking it was likely to be the exceptional DeAgostini versions again, as HMV have been selling them many times.

Edit: I’m getting mixed up – it was Zavvi selling them, not HMV.

          1. No, quite the opposite. The jazz series were all exceptionally good. I think the current Bob Dylan series has been extremely well received as well.

        1. It’s usually easy to spot as the DOL logo will be on rear cover. I once bought Miles David ‘ A kind of blue ‘ from HMV and returned as it was very poor sound quality. As Jan said best stick to Columbia recordings etc

  26. For those in the US, the Barnes & Noble Criterion sale is on again. All Criterion Blu-rays, DVDs, and 4K UHD discs are 50% off, both online and in stores, through November 28. Includes several music-related titles (Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Band, etc.).

  27. Rarewaves have restocked the massive 26 disc King Crimson Complete 1969 Recordings box set at £71 on their own site.

Aware that some folk have had issues with that seller but I ordered this at that price a couple of weeks ago and it turned up unblemished in a couple of days, so I can’t fault them.

  28. Talking of Paul Young, saw him at the weekend in London with his sideline band, Los Pacaminos. Brilliant stuff. I’m ashamed to admit I had never come across them before, yet they are celebrating their 30th anniversary!

  29. New batch of MOV releases at $9 and change via deepdiscount/wal-mart:

    Paul Young – No Parlez
    Mr. Bungle – Disco Volante
Faith No More – Album of the Year
    Son Volt – Straightaways
    Utopia – Ra
    Byrne/Sakamoto – Last Emperor OST
    Golden Earring – Contraband

Honorable mention to auto-correct, which came up with Disco Boulanger…

  30. Thanks so much re the Supergrass. I think like others, I went on a buyer’s strike at the mish-mash that was CD2 – all those remixes and interspersed live stuff – just give me a live CD and some unreleased stuff!

Sorry to see the Tull so cheap – the sales must have been horrible as the set is excellent – and the live CD outstanding. It may dissuade Ian from giving lesser selling albums like Under Wraps the attention it/they deserve (which in Under Wraps’ case would involve wholesale replacing the appalling synth drums with actual acoustic – or triggered acoustic samples)

    1. That’s been my hope for Under Wraps, offering a bonus edition of the album that basically keeps the vocals, flute & guitars but updates/replaces the synths and drums completely. Kind of like what Floyd did with Momentary Lapse of Reason but even more so. I can hear the well written songs trying to break out, but man it is a hard listen in execution…

    2. I may be in a minority of one on this, but there are a number of 80s albums which, for me, would be much poorer if the 80s electronic drums were to be replaced with ‘real’ drums. Under Wraps is one of them – I actually think it’s the songs which are lacking here. Others which come to mind are: ‘Subject’ by Aldo Nova, ‘Behavior’ by Saga and Danger Zone by Doc Holiday. I apologise if these examples are a bit niche.
Under Wraps, like all the other JT deluxe editions, will be an autobuy regardless.
I do agree with your concern though re deluxe editions for lesser selling JT albums.

  31. Queen’s “News Of The World” 40th anniversary box set is on Amazon UK for £68.79. Seeing as many Amazon accounts have been sent £5 promo credit offers, that’ll bring it to under £65 for many.

  32. Thanks for the deal alert on the Bowie box,
Bought it for my mum who has the other 4 of them. Been watching it for months myself hoping it would go to £200 but I doubt that with the way vinyl prices are going up , thanks again.

      1. Haha, that was a good reply liked that!. I also got her the Beatles in Mono when it came out don’t think it was even £200 as a pre order and she hasn’t opened it. Wish I’d have got myself one at the time. We did go half each on the Uber All Things Must Pass though!. Buts it’s too big to store at my small place!, so in reality she’s claimed that!.

    1. Several albums are reduced in price on Amazon.de at the moment (including deluxe editions), i guess it has to do with German retailers Saturn and Media Markt offering everything that they have in stock with a 19% (German VAT) discount.

As this offer ends on Monday morning i guess you can find similar offers on German Amazon for the time being.

The problem once more is that you only duscover the discount when looking on an items product site.

If you’re having a wish list it can make sense to look the products included up on Amazon’s web site.

I found on the box set front e.g. Frank Zappa And The Mothers Live 1971 (8 cds) for 60€, Beach Boys / Feel Flows (5 cds) equally for 60€ or the Waiting For Columbus 8 cd-set by Little Feat for 73€.

  33. Not a bargain as such, but U2’s Achtung Baby coloured vinyl seems to be available again (recordstore.co.uk, soundofvinyl, etc.). Good news if you missed out, bad news if you’re trying to currently sell one on eBay for silly money :)

      1. Hi Stevie
Yes, I think a lot of people have had problems with Rarewaves. I have bought from them several times and although they take a couple of weeks to arrive, they always come. I contacted them once and I’m sure they replied the next day. So hopefully your Gomez set arrives (it’s very good!)

  34. Music Magpie via their eBay store have 20% off The Beatles – Revolver 5CD boxed edition bringing it down to £88.75 which though still expensive is quite possibly the cheapest UK price on release day.

    1. I used to buy from MusicMagpie regularly, until items started to arrive damaged. Pot luck I know, but be careful with them as you can only contact them via email, and it’s slow. The hassle is sometimes not worth it. Same with Chalkys and Rarewaves etc. Out of the three discounts they have, 10%, 15%, 20%, the 20% one is the better deal. Got loads over the years using that one. It’s hit and miss as always.

      1. I’ve found that Rarewaves & MusicMagpie tend to sell a lot of warped vinyl although the ones I’ve bought have always been unopened/still in shrink wrap. Maybe they buy up known faulty batches, I don’t know.

In the case of Rarewaves I haven’t had any issues getting refunded and very quickly to give them credit. On two occasions I was told to keep the faulty LPs, they did play OK but the resale value was nil.

As it happens I’ve just received a warped double LP from MusicMagpie and have supplies pics of the warped LP. They informed me a return label would be supplied in 5 days. I’m not worried about the refund it may take a while but I’m double covered with PayPal who are payed via my credit card.

  35. I’ve been sent some discount codes from official artists sites as it’s my birthday. I hope that someone can use them, I’m not sure if they’re one use only.
    Queen – QUEBIRTHDAY10 10% off
    Taylor Swift – BIRTHDAY10 10% off
    Rolling Stones – RSXBDTRAFK820 20% off

  36. Burning Shed have a sale on right now with all sorts of goodies; music, T-shirts and mugs etc. Pick of the sale has to be the mammoth King Crimson – The Complete 1969 Recordings box set, down from £134 to just £90. A snip!

  37. For those inclined – Rod Stewart , The Studio Albums 1975-2001. 14CDs for £44 on Amazon UK. I’m not familiar with the set personally so not sure how much of a deal this is, but £44 for 14CDs seems a more than reasonable price?

  38. I was browsing HMV Winchester,Hants store two weeks ago and they had a copy of this Elton John Deluxe set hidden behind their counter reduced to around £ 40.I remember looking it over and nearly bought it,but ended up changing my mind as I wasn’t too keen on all those early demos and b-sides it mainly contains..No idea if they still have it.

HMV stores have an annoying habit of hiding away behind their counter many of their unsold older deluxe editions, so if you do not ask them you do not always realise they have them.HMV regularly fail to display some of their oversized stock, then seem to not workout the reason they aint sold them is most browsing customers had no clue they had them.I have found both the Associates deluxe, Go West deluxe,REM at the BBC deluxe box,Nightwish live deluxe Cd/vinyl/Blu-ray set, and a trully fabulous old Marc Almond 10 cd Deluxe by accident in my local HMV’s in recent months.None were on display and I only discovered them because a staff member was delving in their behind counter cupboards for some other product I was after.

    1. Back in 2019 I asked at my local HMV about the Creedence Clearwater Revival Vinyl Studio Albums box set that someone had said was behind the counter in their local HMV shop. Yup they had a copy hidden out back and yup it was £74.99 for what is a beautiful set that was what on release? £180 or so?

      Hidden. Out the back. Hopeless.

    2. If you look over your right shoulder whilst paying at the counter in HMV Winchester, you should see at the end of the main CD aisle, a stash of box sets. It’s my local HMV and I bought Wilco’s YHF deluxe edition from there a couple of weeks for £100. I was aware that it would (and since has) fall in price on Amazon, but these days I’m a firm believer in redistributing the wealth where possible – HMV, Bandcamp, independent shops, independent online retailers – and not just hitting the “Add to basket” tab on Amazon. Sometimes they just can’t be beaten on price and on the occassions where I buy something featured on this site, I always click the SDE links.

        1. The thing that puts me off HMV is the minimum spend of 20 quid to ensure free postage. And as the average new release is £12.99 (or £18 tops for a movie) I just end up waiting till there are actually two items I want. They must lose a lot of trade that way…

      1. They also have a stash of various bookshelved deluxe editions behind the counter too. That’s where I saw the EJ one.It stood out because of its green cover. Many of these do not reveal the artist so impossible to work out who most of these are.Why they are making no effort to sell them is a mystery!

      1. Why not? This site has a community of readers from all around the world.

I can even remember Paul writing an extra entry for Udo Lindenbergs SDE-box (featuring only songs in German) with most of his former works some years ago…

  39. I’m not looking to buy the Elton box, so it’s not a big thing, but for the life of me I cannot see any £40 voucher on the item page. It’s worth noting that it has long been available for £40 on HMV when you apply their Flash50 50% off code, which has been ongoing for most of this year, at the very least.
It does look a lovely set though, and the book looked especially great in the SDE unboxing video.
Edit: See it now. Why do they hide it like that?

  40. Just waiting for the ‘SDE Deal Alerts’ for the Beatles Let It Be and Abbey road to go to £50 each, which I got Sgt Pepper and The Beatles SDE’s for!

Not going to happen is it!!

    1. Beatles Let It Be box is now frequently turning up cheap at record fairs in UK. Saw plenty at last month’s Victoria record fair in London priced between £40/£45 – so there’s a surplus out there somewhere. Good scope for future Amazon discounts here I would have thought.
Abbey Road has been cheap several times in the past. Got mine from Music Magpie on Ebay when one of the 20% discount promotions – think I paid £44 for it. This one – like the Pepper box and the White album- seems to be increasing in price so I wouldn’t expect much discounting on this in future. If you see it cheap. go for it now whilst it’s still around

  41. The Japan Album is back in stock at Amazon from Amazon so anyone who wasn’t honoured with the £15 pre order may think it’s worth a shot phoning them and quoting your order number ! . As a lot of folk got it at £15 originally and they cancelled saying no stock, now they have stock. Good luck.

    Worth a go I guess
