Badly Drawn Boy / The Hour of Bewilderbeast deluxe reissue

badlydrawnboy_wildebeast

Badly Drawn Boy‘s debut album The Hour Of Bewilderbeast is being reissued by XL Recordings in December, in deluxe CD and LP editions.

The Mercury Music Prize-winning album was released in 2000 and was Damon Michael Gough’s debut after a few years of putting out EPs. The album was a commercial success, going platinum in the UK and delivering three top 30 singles.

The 2015 reissue adds 13 bonus tracks to the numbered, limited edition deluxe 3LP set which comes in what XL describe as a wide-spined  “stunning leatherette sleeve”. The 2CD deluxe adds three more bonus tracks on its second disc, while the 2LP vinyl set sticks to the 18-track album.

The Hour Of Bewilderbeast is reissued on 11 December 2015.

  1. Really excited for this but I have to admit I’m a little tired of everyone obsessing over his debut album when so much of his other stuff has been so good. I’d love to see a Have You Fed the Fish reissue as well. Such a sonically beautiful, thrilling pop album totally misunderstood on release.

  2. Unfortunately a 2CD reissue ill serves this prodigious period of Damon’s career. The list of what could have been included is extensive: Eps 1 and 2 (which I believe have never been on CD?), unreleased demos (of which there are many), remixes (ditto), radio sessions, songs like A-side re-recording Spitting in the Wind, and great obscurities like the Select magazine demo version of Everybody’s Stalking.
What’s included is great (Outside Is a Light EP for instance). Just a shame there isn’t more for the fan.

    1. Agreed. Would be great to have EP1 and 2 and the remixes – the only thing I don’t have on the second disc of this deluxe is “Soul Attitude”. Still, it’s nice to see the album get some attention again.

  3. What is it with Amazon and its ‘Currently Unavailable’ status? The Flaming Lips Heady Nuggs (Clouds Taste Metallic) was up for about 3 days with that availability, and has no disappeared altogether. Does anyone have an answer as to why they keep doing this with upcoming releases?

    1. It also says We don’t know when or if this item will be back in stock. They never had it in stock in the first place considering it’s not released till the 11th December. Amazon really are the pits.
